Here's the Cleveland.com story.

Quite a sad article as it makes it sound like everyone is glad it will be gone and goes into detail about what an eyesore it is, as if it is a junkyard or something.  All to have more barren land and a wider bridge..?

Such a cool structure that nobody seemed to be advocating for.

Is the site big enough for an NFL stadium?

No, it's not even close.

Yep. Another mistake in the name of more road infrastructure.

Agreed in principle, especially if nothing is planned for the site.   But it may simply cost too much to bring up to modern codes for any practical use.

It seems it was allowed to deteriorate further beyond the already poor condition when vacated. The OPDOT and NOACA planners probably put dibs on it long ago as it started planning the innerbelt upgrade projects.  Looking back it would have been nice to covert to senior or homeless housing, but given the current condition and Innerbelt plans, hopefully the county will continue to focus on developing a social services campus in that area for much needed safety net programming.

God forbid historic buildings are prioritized over ODOT getting our Level of Services back to a "C"

you know what will happen next. after the old juvie is torn down no fancy road/bridge redo because no fed $ portion will be released.

Demolition timetable for old Cuyahoga County juvenile center won’t delay Innerbelt work

Turns out, YES fancy road/bridge redo 😉:

  • "Construction on an array of projects from East Ninth Street to Carnegie Avenue is still on target to begin in spring 2026, an ODOT spokesperson said."
  • The Central interchange project timetable, or Innerbelt Modernization Program contract Group 3A is still looking at a 2032 completion but still in the works. It appears as though the bridge and roadway upgrades surrounding the site described in the article are the first part of that contract group before the interchange upgrades occur and are moving forward.

^ well of course that makes sense. anyone can see you have to tear out the entire historic juvie campus for this bridge. 🤮

I assume the project will also remove this wall which is way too close to the roadway.
