February 26, 20196 yr Has anybody heard anything at all concerning the gloriously beautiful and long vacated Cuyahoga County Juvenile Courts building on East 22nd St? It's almost a criminal act to allow such a historical and wonderful landmark building like this to be left to rot. I know that several previous plans were in place to redevelop this mammoth complex, but for one reason or another they all have fallen thru. It's really a shame, this would be perfect for restoration as housing or perhaps something else of meaningful usage. February 26, 20196 yr ^ thanks for asking about this and reminding me of it. i hope someone has some better news? or eventually does. the old detention center is a beautiful and historic campus in a pretty cool little area. it absolutely should be redeveloped into housing or housing and a combination of other things. low income, geriatric, straight up gentrification, a mix, whatever, but something. it would be a real catalyst for what could be quite an interesting mini neighborhood. not to be too flip about it, but leaving it to rot away for nothing is a yet another crime it is associated with! hopefully the city can help a developer revamp it. for some comparison, the nyc verison of this, spofford in hunts point, bronx, is being town down for an all new development call peninsula. spofford was built in 1957 and is hideous garbage of a building, so its going away at last to the relief of the neighborhood. youth detention has been split up across the city. more: https://www.nycedc.com/project/peninsula-hunts-point

Now I understand the name "Twin Lanes." Although the upper level is unused, with dusty bowling balls still sitting in a rack and the ceiling partially collapsed. But the first level looks just fine, except for the temporary wall off to one side. What does it hide?? And it mentions Ohio as one of the targets. But it still doesn't explain the BP station. You wouldn't think the developer would want to share the site with a competitor. February 27, 20196 yr I would be surprised if they don't include pumps (assuming it is indeed a Getgo). Downtown only has 2 gas stations- both BP, and both are poorly run and maintained. A smart competitor could eat their lunches.

But WHY is it that there's so much celebration revolving around a Get-Go Food Mart & Gas Station? I realize that ANY development in this location is a positive, but my goodness ... So much thrill over a glorified filling station. ? More fueling locations are definitely needed in this area, but we need to be more excited about projects that will continue to propel this city upwards. Get-Go doesn't exactly fit that bill. Why go to all the effort to tear down an existing building to be immediately adjacent a competitor? Makes no sense. How much of the lack of redevelopment in this area is the result of concerns about the effects of a dead-man's curve realignment that may or may not happen in the next decade?

Does that side stack with traffic for 2-3 hours every week day evening with people on their way home? If not, then that is probably why. It's the same reason Walgreens tries to locate on the "going home" side of whatever road they plan to build a store. It makes it more convenient for people in heavy traffic on their way home.

May 3, 20196 yr A few weeks back, I went to a Cleveland State lacrosse game (which they won...and side note, it's extremely impressive how well the team has done considering it was only their third season of Division 1 play). Of course, this game was played inside the Krenzler Dome. I have never been inside this facility, and I was pretty underwhelmed by the general appearance, seating, and especially the lighting. I even heard that the conference banned softball games inside the dome. With that said, does the school have any plans to renovate or replace this facility? I have been to other temporary domed fieldhouses that are much nicer and well-lit. It's definitely not a great look for a quality D1 program to be playing all their home games there.

They seem to have more than a rock climbing gym, they had a semi full weightroom too judging by photos I see on their Instagram.

Kudos to the developer, Woda Group, for building affordable apartments for downtown residents in the service industry.
