July 26, 20195 yr "Athelon is the old Cleveland Athletic Club" WOW that is horrible! W-O-W! OK - sorry to go off track. Hopefully developers who lurk here will get the message that historical names have value.

July 26, 20195 yr "The 9" is great. They've built a very strong brand to where even all the Boomer suburbanites know what it is. I don't think Athelon is that bad though.

July 28, 20195 yr *Puts on nerd glasses* The owners of The Statler should have renamed it The Pentium so The Pentium and The Athlon could compete for residents.
July 29, 20195 yr Taken from The Statler FB page. They nailed it with the exterior improvements. The new signage, the added flag poles, the lighting. A+ all around.
July 29, 20195 yr ^ Yeah. They’ve done a good job. The new color scheme of royal blue and silver really looks good. I hope they’re redoing the apartments too. They were pretty tired when I toured there in 2015. My hovercraft is full of eels

July 29, 20195 yr I've heard through an indirect source that K&D is reshuffling its tenants in the Keith building to its other properties in a precursor to allow them to redevelop some or all of it into condos.

July 31, 20195 yr Looks like Playhouse Square will be home to the city's first medical marijuana dispensary - due to open tomorrow, August 1. I thought the George's were in on this - or do they just own the buildings that they will be housed in? The same outfit will operate the two locations in Lakewood, both currently under construction. https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2019/07/30/1894089/0/en/Green-Thumb-Industries-GTI-Opens-Rise-Cleveland-the-City-s-First-Cannabis-Store-and-GTI-s-Third-Retail-Location-in-Ohio-on-August-1.html Edited July 31, 20195 yr by RE Developer In Training

If all this condo talk is real and ends up with condos that would be truly great for the City and we'll see even more people Downtown as those 'excluded' (because they would rather buy than rent) may have some options. I hope the offering include units larger than 2 br, as once families have a second kid, it would force them to move out.

July 31, 20195 yr ^Cool---can't wait to read it. More for-sale units downtown has been an interest/desire of mine for a long time. Thanks for writing on the topic.

I don't know what I find more annoying when I watch the various programs on HGTV. The requirement that each kid has to have their own bedroom (growing up I share an large attic bedroom with my brother and sister and neither of us are currently in therapy) or the mandate that their be a total open concept so mom can see the kids at all time (our mom had no clue where we were and I think that was the desire of both kids and parents as long as we did not burn the house down). Of course I also rode the stage coach to school.
August 13, 20195 yr I noticed construction activity in the old M. Lang storefront the other day. Anyone know anything about it?
September 26, 20195 yr Reposted from the Lumen Topic: The developer which is the Shaia family's Victory Properties, Inc. leased the East 13 & Chester Avenue parking lot next to Greyhound Station from the CITY back in 2016. September 26, 20195 yr Does anyone have any informationn on the status of the Zeppelin Project ?? Shaia's Parking, Inc., purchase the three story building at 1500 Superior Ave., better known as Ambassador Lanes in April 2015. They plan to turn it into an office development catering to tech companies, called the Zeppelin. Architecture Office was approached to provide conceptual designs, interior layouts that promoted flexible workflows, and a marketing packet. After working closely with the clients to determine identity, image, and spatial goals, we provided an overlay of expandable work areas that were informed by the Zeppelin’s particular form: http://www.thearchoffice.com/project/zeppelin-1500-superior/ Edited September 26, 20195 yr by Larry1962 More information and details

January 23, 20205 yr Yes. They will close, but it might not be permanent. The staff at TCC are being told there will be renovations bring the theaters up to what current modern theater seating is like. However, this is only from the staff that work there - not management.

September 24, 20204 yr A rare glimpse behind the facade of the Sterling building... sadly looks like there's not much left.
September 24, 20204 yr ^Now that the empty lots along Euclid are just about all spoken for, I'm going to start shifting my wishful thinking to redevelopment of that building and the parking lot just north of it.

I think the parking lot next to the Union Club is the only one on Euclid not spoken for, right? And I’ve heard rumors that some of their members would like to develop that lot. Fingers crossed. And it would be wonderful to see the old Sterling building get the proper renovation treatment like so many other downtown beauties. It really is the last eyesore on that 3/4 mile stretch of Euclid. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?
September 25, 20204 yr While the Sterling/old-old Higbee's building is no gem, I've got to hand it to the folks who designed its current facade. It really does look like a 1980s suburban office building.

I know for sure that at least one Union Club board member wants to do it. But I do not know if there is sufficient support from the rest of the board and membership to pursue it. I like the thinking big. I think the members could really benefit - in theory, any amenities that would be done as part of a high end development could be made available to Union Club members. And the residents of a high end development could be a potential source of membership. Plus they already have a garage, so they probably wouldn’t need as much parking as would otherwise be needed. July 29, 20213 yr This might mean nothing, but I noticed Playhouse Square wants to demolish this little building next to the Greyhound Station. Just wondering why now? https://planning.clevelandohio.gov/designreview/brd/detailDR.php?ID=3809&CASE=DF 2021-019
July 29, 20213 yr I asked a source about that a week ago and they said nothing was imminently planned. However.... The parking lot owners around the Greyhound station are making their properties available for development. So this demo is being done to help those marketing efforts. January 29, 20223 yr Playhouse Square to write Act II to The Lumen By Ken Prendergast / January 29, 2022 Talk about bad timing. Building tours for potential tenants of The Lumen — the largest new residential development in downtown Cleveland in 40 years — began in early March 2020. Less than two weeks later, the nation had gone into a virtual economic shutdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Two and a half months after that, protests and riots following the murder of George Floyd swept the nation and downtown Cleveland was not spared.
