March 31, 20232 yr The Hanna had new marquees in 1946, 1965, 1993, and now 2023. The newest one will actually be the greatest deviation from the past, as all previously have been closely modeled on each other. That’s why it looks original. The one they’re tearing out is only the “original” marquee since the Playhouse Square Foundation has existed. Or so my wife informs me ;)
April 2, 20232 yr It'd be cool if some marquees were added for the Allen or Westfield or other theaters in the square -- even if the entrance is a few doors down. More lights on Euclid.

April 2, 20232 yr Using only someone's first name seems rather odd. I hope it is just temporary. Do those donors ask for their name to be added? Edited April 5, 20232 yr by LibertyBlvd

April 21, 20232 yr i can’t get over what an interesting project it is to rebuild these all at once. i mean, who the heck is an expert on rebuilding theater marquees? how do you get that gig? i hope there is some kind of in depth story about it at some point. also, i am not sure if a sameish, unified look for all of them is a good idea or not, but who am i doubt at all the great folks that run playhouse square, if there is anyone for whom we can just trust their judgement its them lol, so i guess we’ll find out soon enough.

During the day, I’d expect them to look about the same except for different fonts/styling, but I’m just glad the Allen and Connor Palace are getting “real” marquees
April 21, 20232 yr In addition to the Buckley, I heard that PHS will add apartments to the IdeaCenter building.
April 21, 20232 yr any mention of the allen always reminds me of its brief rock and roller days and one of the most famous concert bootlegs of all time, leaving the allen in rubble, where kid leo and the wmms gang hosted their friends bruce springsteen and the e street band for a couple nights during his lawsuit touring in 1976. i was always a sucker for all the cool old bootleg rock show album monikers on all those crummy bootlegs ... so both nights are fantastic shows and all, but what always got me here was the backside of the album (or cd here) ... bottom left: because its the allen theater ... in rubble indeed, ugh!!! more history here: https://www.cleveland.com/arts/2011/09/the_renaissance_of_clevelands.html
April 28, 20232 yr Not super extensive, but they're doing something with the big screen in US Bank Plaza. And Connor Palace
April 28, 20232 yr I got kinda curious how these would all look next to each other so I did a little mockup with the available renderings...
May 11, 20232 yr Ohio, State, and Connor Palace coming along nicely. Some photos with people leaving the theaters. Can't wait to see the final product.

May 12, 20232 yr It’s so gratifying - a source of pride - to see the revitalization of the theaters at Playhouse Square - and the various improvements in the theater district over these last years- from the Chandelier to these new marquis’. When you think of the various big changes either recently completed - or now set for development - from Public Square (with a new SW skyscraper) to Playhouse Square and Euclid Avenue’s boom - to Irishtown Bend, University Circle’s rise, Ohio City’s growth - and hopefully, the biggest of all - the opening of a new lakefront - this town is very different -from not very long ago. And just imagine what the next decade might bring, if we have the will to make it happen.
May 15, 20232 yr Don't forget the development in Hough and Fairfax. I view the investment in those neighborhoods as game changers as well.
May 24, 20232 yr ^ I don't have pictures but yes - and they are also replacing all the LED ribbons and marquees throughout the square and in the plaza. Work has also begun on the Bulkley Building.
May 25, 20232 yr The new lighting that will extend down from Public Square may really add a dynamic element at Playhouse Square, too. Exciting!

May 31, 20232 yr Playhouse Square announces new projects By Ken Prendergast / May 31, 2023 First reported by NEOtrans more than two months ago, the Playhouse Square Foundation announced officially today that it will begin work in June on converting half of the Bulkley Building, 1501 Euclid Ave., in downtown Cleveland into market-rate apartments. Additionally, the nonprofit community development organization also said it has converted the fourth floor of the Hanna Building, across the street at 1422 Euclid, into co-working spaces called Backstage at PSQ. May 31, 20232 yr ^ its nice to have one big organization in the development game where you don’t have to worry at all they know what they are doing or are victims of circumstance like the city, gilbert, stark, wolstein, etc..

June 5, 20232 yr Looks like the new canopies are "roofed" and sealed up top. What do they look like underneath? Any timeline on when the digital signage will be added?

June 15, 20231 yr I can't wait to see these when they're all lit up and a bunch of shows are going on!
June 15, 20231 yr I'm going to a show on Saturday night. I will take some photos of the progress if warranted.
June 16, 20231 yr They look better than the original renderings. The gold appears much richer than the chandelier and Playhouse Square archways
June 16, 20231 yr Agreed. The renderings looked rather cartoonish. Can't wait to see the rest of them.
June 16, 20231 yr Those look so much better than I could have imagined. I do hope they replace or remove the Connor Palace banner above the doors though with something a little more cleaned up. Seems a bit redundant with the new marquee. Excited to see these lit up!
