July 13, 20231 yr That little plaza has a lot of potential to be a more popular pedestrian gathering place - it has a great urban vibe -but can also feel a little, “what’s the word?” “unwelcoming” depending on who is hanging out there. July 13, 20231 yr agreed. Use to live over there and walked through it all the time and I was so perplexed how underutilized it was. The only real lunch place to grab food to-go was a Subway. I never saw that burger shack open. The cafe should really help workers in the area (both offices and work from home people like the Lumen) get out of their apartments/offices and get some sunshine come lunch time

July 13, 20231 yr So far the only one that appears to be elegant is the Connor Palace. Both the Allen and Mimi Ohio detailing lacks a layer of detail to match the grandeur of the theatre interiors. I don't understand why the font was chosen and why it is in just a straight line. Yes the old marquees needed some repairs but I don't know if these are better replacements that will age as well as what was already there

Rather than reflecting the grandeur of the theaters inside the marquees look sorta cheap in the pics. Hope l'm wrong and they look great in person.

I think they look hokey, but then again I thought that the giant chandelier and gateway arches looked awful when installed and they've kind of grown on me. I'm guessing that in a year or so we won't notice the marquees so much. But the good thing is that we probably won't be noticing constant burnt-out light bulbs like we saw on the old ones either.

July 15, 20231 yr I don't know if the added detail is helping this design. Some notes I have. 1. The center "fan detail" ,above MIMI, feels top heavy and begins to encroach on the central blade sign 2. The "fan detail" on the marquee returns are very flat from this view. The same with the added stars 3. The size of Mimi Ohio lettering is under scaled to the marquee size I also miss that the State and Ohio had matching marquees which had a nice balance to the building. I'm afraid the same notes I have from this marquee I will apply to the State's
July 15, 20231 yr I'm not sure I like them all being the same gold color. I know they plan on doing some kind of lighting at night to distinguish them, but during the day they will all look the same.

July 15, 20231 yr ^ Right. When l saw the first renditions l thought the marquees were too uniform. Uniformity is not necessarily a bad thing but it can be. In this case l guess we'll have wait for the finished product but...so far l'm disappointed with what they came up with. What really bugs me is a bunch of theater marquees in a small area all lit up can be very stimulating. Add greatly to one's mood. And it's not rocket science either. There's no shortage of marquees to copy. But this effort? I don't know...
July 15, 20231 yr I don't mind the color, the coordination or the design. I just don't like the material. It looks like plastic (probably because it is, but if it's not it doesn't matter, because it looks like it is). It looks cheap. If these had the same design and colors but looked metallic or stone I'd like them a lot better.

However, if the goal was to attain design continuity throughout all the theaters, it could have still been possible without having each marquee clad with the same ONE color. At night with the lights on, there will be more color and I assume motion, but in daylight, the overall effect is monotonous. My other objection are the curious if not odd designs. There is little to no historic context in consideration here. July 15, 20231 yr I played around with the Mimi Ohio marquee to try to fix the proportions . I think if hey could adjust the scale of the lettering in Ohio it helps to balance the aesthetic. I mean, it’s nice, but it doesn’t do what’s inside those buildings any justice.
