Tickets for Marquee Ribbon are impossible to get. Also glad to see they’re finally hosting the stage production of Blade

I think I went to high school with Marquee Ribbon. Nice dude.

The Connor looks pretty nice, the rest are the definition of "meh".  They'd be more appropriate on suburban multiplexes.

Looks like they're testing Connor Palace tonight

sick looking DJ booth they got there. Can't wait to hear those sick drops

maybe they could put projectors above and below the marquees to project on the building and sidewalk sometimes. adds to the big night out spectacle.

That looks awesome. All of this contributes to the energy along Euclid Avenue which is so desperately needed. I hope one day we have enough people living in this neighborhood to support restaurants and bars that actually stay open AFTER shows let out... right now we pretty much have nothing which is sad. So many times after a show there is nowhere to go nearby. We have to fill up the empty retail spots and add some life down E. 14th. The parking lots at Prospect totally kill any momentum one feels when walking. Baby steps...

More testing tonight. Figured I'd post again since they have colors on the marquees this time around and are testing the Ohio Theater as well.

I know some people were underwhelmed by the new marquees, but there’s no denying that these will look one million times better than before at night.

I know l'm a broken record but man, those lights sure liven up the street.

It appears that The Helen /Outcalt Theatre Marquee was cut. Does anyone know why they eliminated it ? The Playhouse Square website only shows 5 marquees on its marquee page

I absolutely love these new marquees. Cleveland is coming up & I love it.

I must say, the pictures look much better than the renderings.  How often do we say that?

Just a minor nitpick with this one. The upper front behind STATE looks larger than necessary. I wonder why?  Maybe they did that in case KeyBank or some other donor decides they want their name added.

Had a chance to drive by this evening and WOW do these really liven up this area. I was blown away with how amazing they look in person.

Now that the marquees are finished and lighting up the district with brass and color, the 4 arches that mark the entrances to the Square and the Giant Chandelier all combine to create a dynamic theater district with broad demographic appeal. The Foundation has shown vision, excellent planning and the ability to execute that plan over an extended period of time. Well done!

Mea culpa.  I was premature in my rush to negative judgement earlier up the feed.

Overall this is a winning collection of elements, and it's all turning out to be pretty great.

Vision, planning, and execution. Traits that have been lacking in this town for far too long. I don’t love all of these design elements but that’s not important. Kudos to PSF for the dramatic improvements to this part of downtown.

Those look assume!  The Allen didn't have one before, right, so have a net gain of one marquee? More light, the better. Too bad The Helen/Occult theater marquee didn't happen as planned, or is it still coming?

And to think much of this could have  been surface parking if not for the hard work of the early PHS pioneers.  It blows my mind thinking of what we could have lost.

Playhouse Square has been killing it with all the improvements to the area as well as the development. Looking forward to the next Lumen building if that's in the works.

I do like them a lot better lit up than I do in daylight.

While I applaud what PHS has been doing with the marquee updates I find The State and Mimi Ohio a bit clumsy in scale and sight lines.  One can see the angle brackets that hold up the detailing from across the street and walking along and under the north side of Euclid Avenue. Also the details are a bit flat from side views. The could have used  some depth added. I feel there should have been more attention spent. The most successful is The Connor Palace marquee.  The Allen feels flat compared to the others and I still don't understand why tHe Helen and OutCalt Theatre marquee was eliminated.

Lastly I wish the streetlights inside The Playhouse Square archways could be changed out to better ornate fixtures matching the theatre's architectural neighborhood.

re: The Helen/Outcalt Theatre Marquee

response from Playhouse Square

Every day, our construction team is working hard to complete our new marquees. We are on a strict schedule to complete the project safely and in a timely manner. The Helen/Outcalt Marquee is on our schedule and will be completed in an orderly fashion. We do hope that you enjoy our new marquees as they are completed.

^ actually i accidently came across that because i was trying to find out who came up with the marquees — found that too via a litt article:

The new marquees are part of an overall concept developed originally by the Cleveland office of DLR Group, and carried out in detail by the Barnycz Group of Baltimore.

I love how they've done projects in iconic locations like Time Square and Millennium park...yet, their first image on their website is of PHS. 👏🏼

For real. I had to check it out for myself to believe it. But that is the case.

Maybe not the choice I would’ve made if I was unconnected to Cleveland and designed their website, but I love it.

^ i’d think they vary it by whatever is the latest project they are working on, but yeah great to see that.

Danny Barnyc can be seen in front of the computer while color testing is happening. If one scrolls up to photos of the installation he is the gentleman with longer hair. It's nice to see him participating

PLAYHOUSE SQUARE RAISES THE CURTAIN ON NEW EXHIBIT SPACE

Playhouse Square announced today that it is opening The Corner Gallery exhibit space this fall. Located in the former Cowell & Hubbard and CSU Gallery spaces at 1305 Euclid Avenue, The Corner Gallery is designed to feature a wide range of exhibitions that will encourage more activity in the downtown district.

“Playhouse Square is synonymous with creating successful and memorable events, and we are thrilled to further engage guests with our district in this new space,” said Craig Hassall, President & CEO, Playhouse Square. “By embarking on this exciting venture in The Corner Gallery, Playhouse Square is able to not only grow in its unique offerings to visitors, but can continue to create a vibrant, animated district along Euclid Avenue.”

Along with the opening of The Corner Gallery, Playhouse Square looks forward to welcoming Fresh Garden Café to U.S. Bank Plaza and the venerable City Club of Cleveland to the Playhouse Square District this fall, as well as lighting its new marquees at the free community event Marquee Moments on September 28.

“Between our incredible line-up of performances in our theaters to our fantastic eateries and the addition of these new venues and special events, the Playhouse Square District will be brimming with energy, and we are excited to welcome everyone to take part in these experiences,” said Hassall.

Playhouse Square will announce the first exhibit in The Corner Gallery in early September.

Surreal how different this area looks and feels from just last year! So glad the roof of my car didn't cave in for that last pic 🤭

Tbh tho not to be a downer but I was a lil blue to see that there are some visible dents/protrusions on the face of the Allen marquee

I am glad to see the return of the ground kiosk screens.  One suggestion I would have loved to see is The Lumen parking structure screen outlined with some type of LED tape that could  bring a little more life to the southern side of the street.  Thanks @Pleco for photos   Lastly, I hope they repair the burnout sections of lights in the archways and The Hanna Building architectural lighting.

Looks great but I'm amazed at the lack people and traffic!  When you can stand in the middle of the street and take a picture, that says it all.

There is a patio full of people in one of the photos, cars driving up and down, parked on the side of the streets, people walking up and down as well– all on a sleepy Tuesday. Only one show going on the night of these pics. There is a median in the road, not standing in the middle of the street.

Downtown is busier month over month, especially PHSQ, with office workers, students and residents.

Random thought.  While we all want to see a more vibrant street scene, it feels our economic challenges over the last several decades have given Cleveland a head start on reimagining downtown spaces and uses.  We've already repurposed the majority of our obsolete office space - and the steady increase in residents is slowly driving more amenities for both those that live and play in the center of the city.

Completely agree.

The last time I worked downtown was in the late 2000s and my offices were in this area. The changes are really amazing. Tons of room to grow and improve, of course, but the hard work many have put in over the years really shows. I haven't seen these signs in-person yet but the photos look fantastic to me. I'm much more likely to look at the upcoming event schedule now.

people, this marquee project is a classic example of if you build it they will come.

and just look at all the reactions.

they will come.

There were actually plenty of people walking around, especially a lot of students. I also saw at least 4-5 groups of people already posing for pics with the new marquees, so they immediately have a magnetic energy to them. I imagine this will soon be THE spot to take a selfie downtown, and great for posting on social media etc. Also I was very cognizant of my surroundings and stood on the median or left the street for traffic passing through. 👍

So far, there's no chatter about Lumen 2.

Wow!

A New Yorker is surprised somewhere outside of New York does not look like New York - like seeing a double rainbow. We are all so blessed to be in your presence.

Stop!  I grew up in Cleveland!  I'm just keeping it real.  I beleve there is enogh population downtown however for some reason it does translate to pedestrian traffic except for events.
