Looks like WEWS spoiled PHS's big moment and posted some photos of the lighted and completed chandelier from late last night.

Here's a link to the Facebook post for those interested.

Are all the buildings in The District architecturally lit?  The area looks vibrant.  I truly hope these improvements bring attendees out of the parking structures behind the theatres

Comments in that link give Cleveland.com a run for its money.

Not all of them, but the more prominent ones are. I think the plan is to add more uplighting at some point to other buildings in the district.

It's being re-routed down prospect at E. 9th to E. 18th until Saturday.

Was wondering what happened with this. Great news, and the website gives a nice look at the improved entrance. Looks like a restaurant is planned here? Very nice. Love the momentum ;)

So who's down there? Pictures, pictures!!!! :D

live stream wkyc...

From our office:

Yowza!!! Ugh I wish I were there.

^ Second that.

Clevelanders be proud of our city wherever you may live.  This brought tears to my eyes. A part of downtown which was so close to becoming a  parking lot and the magnificence I believed was always there. Cleveland is back and better than ever.  Visionary opening to an enhanced district.

nice video....  Leon Bibb, my ohio talks playhouses square....  and on sound of applause earlier today art falco mentioned new construction possible....

Tears were rolling down my face

Downtown was packed - with this event, the Cher/Cyndi Lauper concert, and the Indians game and decent weather. :-)

Probably the best night I've had in Cleveland so far.

Sang the national anthem w/ the cleveland pops chorus at the Indians game, and caught the lighting ceremony after seeing the Indians get a 5 run first inning. The square was packed, it was truly a spectacular event.

The big moment. (Video)

And a shot of the crowd.

I got a little emotional there. When a community comes together, amazing things can happen.

THE CELEBRATION WAS UNBELIEVABLE!!

Took mostly video, but also a couple  cell phone pics.

THe widows packed with people was surreal

I couldn't believe how big this was. Every window in every building had people lining them with flashing lights. There were even people hanging out on the faux-balcony of the hanna building. I really hope the PHS puts on more events of this scale.

I don't have any pictures to share, (because the Uber app is a battery killer!) but this was the most incredible event I've ever attended in Cleveland. Unreal :)

I was there n had a blast. If anyone on this board has the power to move the New Year's Eve party to star plaza, exercise that power. This intersection is mint for a large gathering

With some better logistics, I agree. This place would make an awesome NYE venue. The way some of the tents and stages were lakes out caused some annoying bottlenecks. The worst being outside of the mew Phuel cafe and the other being outside of the Starbucks. I think Public Square is a better location logistically, but PHS is definitely a more spectacular location.

Here are some before, and just before

Awesome photos, everyone!  I love the overhead shot from Klingaling- looks like a great crowd!

Exactly. I wish all of our media outlets were consolidated there as well. You would think the media would want more public interaction. But at least you have WVIZ, 98.5 and Channel 19 nearby. I love seeing PS getting the...love.

I agree, the shot from Klingaling is terrific.

The pic i have of the Keith et al, was taken from 18th street. That area of Euclid was closed off to all traffic (peds and vehicles) because it was the staging area for the fireworks. It was one of the best fireworks displays ive ever seen.

While over there at 18th I overheard (fwiw) the demo/construction would start and that new apartment building would soon commence.

And Art Falco mentioned a few times that there would be some exciting announcements in the coming weeks about the PHS area

I got lots of video I'll share after it's edited down. What a great night though, despite the huge crowd that could barely move at some places, everybody was laughing and just going with it. The ONLY thing that wasn't planned well maybe was that the stage should've been on 14th and the crowd should've been funneled down Euclid. When the lighting and fireworks started, everyone on 14th was blocked from seeing

One cool thing they were using the new video boards for was to show Instagram photos and tweets tagged #DazzleCLE. Was a great way to keep the crowd engaged with the event even after the ceremony was over.

That really looks like an amazing night; although I wonder about the durability of the chandelier to withstand really inclement weather. I assume they tested it under severe (albeit manufactured) conditions :|. I noticed in the PD article that the Playhouse Sq president & CEO is someone with whom I went to high school (a couple years my senior)--so surely he knows what he's doing

Hey I’m the PHS chandelier curmudgeon, but even I wish I could have been in town for all the fun… Maybe this wacky gimmick will end up being a positive, national conversation piece for the city while, more importantly, giving this great ‘hood a sense of place making it more of a destination point than it’s been in the past… we can only hope.

So, playhouse square needs to figure out a way to make this an annual festival.  Obviously not to this scale, but an event that brings people into the streets, with drink, food, and PHS arts!

I completely agree!

^I don't know what the ultimate plan is for Playhouse Square (I suppose I could pore through the previous million posts of this thread ), but I'm guessing maybe something like Dundas Square in Toronto would be nice. I don't think PHS could accomodate that many people, but more public events would be a nice complement to the spectacular theaters (?)

An awesome night!

Well, at least you didn't decide to move out of town due to this

I would expect nothing less from a world class organization and they did not disappoint. I streamed it live on my big screen and it was amazing!

Well all the CBS stations are on Huron, in walking distance from PHS so they're there too

I was wildly impressed with the entire show...really great stuff. One thing I hope they do now is start leaving the chairs on the little square there out more often. I was downtown on a sunday afternoon and wanted to sit and drink a coffee in the square and the chairs were all chained up. We just spent 16 million on a bunch of fancy lights, lets leave the chairs out so people can look at them :P

They're usually out while Dynomite is open.

Good quetion.  One thing's for sure, we won't have long to find out.

I saw a video somewhere where it was put from test to test, nothing lasts forever.
