silly and interesting at the same time!

isnt the stratosphere in vegas taller than the wynn? or doesnt that count?

Vegas has all ten of the top ten largest hotels in America (maybe the world..?). I wouldn't be surprised if the Wynn had the greatest square footage of all these.

ok, but isnt this about the tallest in each state? i guess the stratosphere doesnt count.

Silly indeed but fitting for Urban Ohio.

what state's tallest building is a church?

Well, that's interesting!

Maine's tallest structure, at 204 feet, is the spire of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.

(By the way, for comparison purposes, the original east spire of Old Stone Church on Public Square (1855) was 228 feet tall - I couldn't find a height for the current steeple nor for the one at St. Michael's on Scranton, which claims the tallest title as well.)

NO! It's about me and my awesomeness. Sorry to disappoint you.

Damn, sorry, I'm a rejuvenile and I haven't had my jungle juice today.

I don't get why they wouldn't include the Stratosphere; It's the tallest and it's very functional. It has a hotel and I believe it has a rollercoaster on the top. That's strange.

ok I am intrigues, but I sure wish they were labled!

The fact that they're all just in a row, makes it look like...well...a larger Columbus.

The Stratosphere is not a building, it is a structure.  There is a difference.  This is why the Sears Tower still held the title for tallest building in North America even though the CN Tower in Toronto was the structure in the world.

Then there is the radio antenna in North Dakota that is taller then both.

Why is Oklahoma's tallest on there twice?

Two things I love about ColDayMan:

1) He knows the tallest building in Oklahoma.

2) He notices when it shows up twice.

Damn, if the Detroit Marriott was the tallest hotel in the U.S.

How lame! The stratosphere has the same use/function as many of those "buildings".

Don't you know I'm God by now?

And to make this thread THAT much better, I'll be guessing by state.  Now keep in mind, I could easily go to Emporis or whatever to look it up but I'm not since what fun would that be?

Where's West Virginia or Connecticut's tallest?!?!?  Unless that "thing" between the Sears Tower and Hawaii's tallest is supposed to represent CT's tallest...which would be dumb.

I see the Beau Rivage got part of their name from Ohio's first internet community Rivage, Ohio.

I'd like to see it all in proportion.

Well I learned something today!  I always thought that "Big Pink" (US Bancorp Tower) was Portland, Oregon's tallest building, but apparently Wells Fargo's got it beat by 10'!

in that case i learned something too. oregon's tallest is bugly  !

LOL I'm not really impressed either. But I find MOST skyscrapers pretty boring.

What an ugly image of our towers.

^There's an attractive view of the Ren Cen? Quite frankly Medusa Cement did it better.

RenCen is an example of how a skyscraper can kill a skyline.

I think thats the same mold they used for the Westin bonaventure in LA.  It just as ugly as the Ren Center!

The Marriott portion is very similar to the Westin in Atlanta, too. Same architect. I've stayed in the Ren Cen three times and didn't realize they had a movie theater until the third time I went hahaha. The thing is terribly organized and the mall portion is absolutely dead, even the food court and those are supposed to be the last thing to go. The restaurant on the top two floors is pretty cool but you only have a view of the clouds; you can't see the city in the winter time from that high up. It's hard to figure out where the parking garage is and I parked in the wrong place and Detroit PD screamed at me for having my hands in my pockets while I was talking to them (wtf?). It's January, it's cold outside, it doesn't mean I have a gun. The best place to stay in Detroit I think is the Athenium if you can afford it. Ren Cen is fffaaarrr overpriced unless you get a deal on orbitz, etc in advance.

Almost the exact same thing happened to me with the Cincinnati Cops in Alms Park of all places.

crazy
