Sections 352.08 through 352.12 which states that an 8 foot wide landscaped transition strip is required where a General Retail Business District and a Semi-Industry District abut a MultiFamily Residential District. 4. June 4, 20178 yr How about a view from the air as my kid was visiting in ENT doctor in the Crile Building? July 7, 20177 yr Work was recently done on the lots marked in red. Although the buildings had been demolished some time ago, the land here has all been leveled in the last two weeks. I originally thought it was all to be parking lot for the Clinic; however, I have been told they are prepping it for apartments over ground floor retail. No idea when any sort of actual construction is to start, but that is the plan for these lots as part of the "redevelopment" of the Fairfax neighborhood. Edit: I guess this should actually be in the Fairfax New Economy District thread, but not sure how to move it. Apologies. EDIT #2: It appears the information may have been premature. Although the eventual plan for this land may be apartments over ground floor commercial, it doesn't appear that's happening anytime soon. They have started to plant trees, making this into park land at least for some time. Apologies for jumping the gun.
July 7, 20177 yr Interesting. FYI just copy and paste the posting above into the Fairfax thread and then Remove your original posting. Wait, is this supposed to be a Cleveland Clinic sponsored development? If so then just leave it here. July 7, 20177 yr ^Unclear to me as of now whether the Clinic owns the land and is sponsoring the development. I'll leave it here for now and move it if it becomes clear that it is not Clinic sponsored in time. I'll find out more from the individual that informed me.
July 7, 20177 yr Cleveland Clinic owns most of the land except for these house-sized parcels... TOLLIVER-VEGGACADO, LINDA 9502 CEDAR AVE TOMASELLI, SALVATORE CEDAR AVE (No building # but appears to be at about 9906) FARIFAX RENAISSANCE (one parcel on each side of the Tomaselli parcel) 9904 CEDAR AVE CEDAR AVE (No building # but appears to be at about 9908) CLEVELAND CITY OF LB82 10104 CEDAR AVE THOMPSON PEARL E CEDAR AVE (No building # but appears to be at about 10202) That takes us up to East 103rd Street. I'm going to bet this is a Cleveland Clinic sponsored project. If so I'm going to start taking back all the bad things I've said about their land use planning. Now if they could just get rid of/disguise that awful substation at East 105th and Chester. ;) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

July 20, 20177 yr Yesterday I edited my post regarding the three plots of land on Cedar near 100th to address what looked like park landscape being put in. Today I saw an excerpt from the Fairfax Neighborhood Journal that they are in fact putting in pocket parks. Although these are likely temporary pocket parks, the land won't be built on anytime soon. Second apologies for jumping the gun.
November 8, 20177 yr November 08, 2017 10:10 am Cleveland Clinic plots $20 million children's center By TIMOTHY MAGAW A $3 million lead gift from the Jones Day Foundation will help Cleveland Clinic Children's open its first freestanding outpatient facility — a project estimated to cost more than $20 million. The 120,000-square-foot children's center — expected to be completed by fall 2018 — will be housed in the former four-story Taussig Cancer Center on Euclid Avenue between East 89th and 90th streets. The renovated facility will unite the Clinic's children's primary and specialty outpatient care in one location. The Clinic's cancer program moved its operations earlier this year to a new, $276 million facility . Children requiring hospitalization or complex care will continue to receive treatment in the M building on the Clinic's main campus. International architecture firm HKS will lead the expansion project, which according to a news release, will be designed to create a "calming and welcoming environment to nurture the whole family." The Clinic said features of the facility include an expanded entrance on Euclid Avenue, a child-friendly cafe and nutrition center, family-focused education center, retail pharmacy and a playroom. It will also boast 50 exam rooms, 20 private infusion rooms and four procedure rooms. November 8, 20177 yr I happen to drove by Taussig and noticed the sign reflecting its transformation into the Children's Building. I thought Taussig looked really tired and dated for such a new building. I could not put my finger on it but it just looked old. Hopefully the renovation will help re-fresh it. I like the idea of the canopy.

April 10, 20196 yr Cross-posted from the Case Western Reserve thread: Case Western Reserve, Cleveland Clinic launch new era of health education with Samson Pavilion dedication Innovative architectural design and state-of-the-future technology to welcome students from dental, medical and nursing schools APRIL 9, 2019 Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic launched a new era of health education today in dedicating the centerpiece of their new campus, the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion. “The dedication of the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion demonstrates the extraordinary value that the spirit of philanthropy brings to new generations of students. The Health Education Campus will have a major impact on advancing medical education and patient care,” said Tom Mihaljevic, MD, Cleveland Clinic chief executive officer and president. “Its unique curricula and design will inspire health care professionals to be members of interdisciplinary teams and promote lifelong learning.” This spring, the four-story, 477,000-square-foot building opens to 2,200 students from Case Western Reserve’s dental, nursing, and medical schools, including those from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Students from the university’s social work school also will come to the Samson Pavilion for shared coursework, but will continue to take the majority of their classes in their own newly renovated building on Case Western Reserve’s main campus. As designed by London architects Foster + Partners, perhaps the most striking part of the Samson Pavilion is the 80-foot-high, 27,000-square-foot central courtyard newly named the Delos M. Cosgrove Courtyard through a generous gift from the outgoing chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Directors, Robert E. Rich Jr., and his wife, Mindy. July 12, 20195 yr The Cleveland Clinic has some strangely planned construction ambitions. The M building is the current Cleveland Clinic Pediatric inpatient hospital. That building contains most of the pediatric OR's and ICU's, so demolishing it before a suitable replacement is built would be out of the question. The 8th floor of the M building has been under construction for over a year, being remodeled into a new epilepsy unit. The ribbon cutting to officially open M80 will be Monday. The R building next door now contains the outpatient pediatric departments that moved out of the T and S buildings middle floors, still vacant since the fall of 2018 when the newly remodeled R building opened. The TT building is old and largely office space, along with the S and P buildings, so they could vacate the P, S, and TT and RR buildings fairly easily. The U building is also underutilized and takes up nearly an entire city block with the Cleveland Clinic Police Station. The Cleveland Clinic also purchased the The Cleveland Playhouse complex which is heavily damaged due to decades of poor maintenance and neglect (trust me). None of my contacts within the Cleveland Clinic maintenance departments have heard any plans for the next construction project, nor the next demolition project. Most of the Cleveland clinic is talking about the new Mentor Hospital that is supposed to break ground by the end of the year, the closing of the TRW campus in Beachwood, the construction of Cleveland Clinic London, expansion of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and integrating of the recently acquired Akron General hospitals, Union Hospital, Martin Health System and Indian River Medical.

It's too bad about the Playhouse. I thought that when Explorys moved in there, the building itself might experience a little rekindling. I'm in there pretty regularly and it just gets used for training pretty much now - no effort is being put into the building, so I don't think they have a long term plan or use for it. Only one bathroom is being kept in usable condition.
July 14, 20195 yr I personally only cringe when I drive past the new Dentistry building...thoughts?? Is CWRU-Clinic Health Education Campus just another big shiny box at a sprawling medical center? - Steven Litt Today 5:00 AM Designed by Lord Norman Foster of England, one of the world’s most famous contemporary architects, the building seems ideal for high-tech learning that emphasizes collaboration among future doctors, nurses, physician assistants and dentists. But is it one big, shiny box too many at the Clinic? The four-story, 477,000-square-foot Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion is a joint project by the Clinic and CWRU located on jointly owned land at East 93rd Street between Chester and Euclid avenues. It co-houses CWRU’s School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, and Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, which are moving over from the CWRU main campus, and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, another CWRU program. Despite its dual parentage, the perception will be that the Samson Pavilion – for all its fine qualities – is adding to the chilly gigantism that pervades the Clinic’s 165-acre campus, which can make patients and families feel like tiny cogs in a vast machine. https://www.cleveland.com/arts/2019/07/is-cwru-clinic-health-education-campus-just-another-big-shiny-box-at-a-sprawling-medical-center-steven-litt.html
