Everything at The Robert Evans Bistro tastes the same...and not good.

Ha, I was going to say, egg-based dishes make up 75% of their menu anyways!

Bob Evans... Down on the Farm... at Cedar Center!

I'm less upset about the quality of the food as I am about the ::ahem:: architecture of those buildings. Aren't they all big red barns in the center of a big cube of parking? How is that an improvement over what was? I feel like with the parking accomodations for that and for GFS, there may be less retail space there than was previously. Plus, you need the extra wide parking spaces for the old people that invariably grace the Bob Evanses. We all know old people insist on fully opening their doors of their DeVilles,  smashing them into the neighboring car when they get out.

I believe the newer Bob Evans style is a brick structure:

Either way, yes, it's going to be surrounded by a sea of space-and-a-half-wide parking.

Is the sewer district still talking about the impervious-surface surcharge?  I'm all for it -- hoping that it would actually help to cut down the sea of parking lots.

Looks like Bob Evans is going up first.

Well, at least it's being built on the sidewalk.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

Haha....that was my only positive thought as well

There's bob Evans everywhere, I was at a party at golden Gate last night and low and behold another bob Evans lives there. I was mad that they're building one here but then I realized every city has one and we all get to suck equally.

Yes, suck tax dollars from each other, suck aesthetically, it's the whole package.

Wait, what makes you so sure that's the Bob Evans? ;-)

I'm actually kind of shocked it's being built on the sidewalk.  Now let's just hope there's an entrance there!  (Looking at you, Whole Foods.)

Whole Foods had an entrance on the Cedar/Warrensville (wine department) corner for, what, the first year the were open? Used to grab a few things and go from the register back there. then they closed it... Never got the reasoning, but assume either theft or cost of extra staffing were the issues.

I'd actually much prefer the "old" Cedar Center north stores/configuration.  Way to go South Euclid!

Why would assume that instead of asking?? ?? ??  I dont understand this thought process.

I asked - I can't remember exact reason, but something along the lines of the corp. office no longer allowed having the 2 entrances, I think for security reasons.  Don't remember them saying much more beyond that or anything about actual theft.  Shame, I liked that entrance to grab some quick booze.

Then why didn't you say exactly the above the first time?  This is a prime example of people writing one thing, when in fact there is another reason for X thing taking place.

Check the names on the posts - I didn't write the first one.  Didn't mean to confuse.

OH crap.  my bad.  SORRY.  This is why I shouldn't drink.

More construction activity:  A brick building just east of Bob Evans, and a pad for a building just west of Starbucks.  There are piles of cinder blocks between them.

There's actually a third building under construction also, in between the two you mentioned!! All 3 are to the sidewalk, but who knows what side is entrance, who knows what's going inside them, and who know's what's the site plan.

From a reliable insider source I heard the following last night:

1. Coral Co. is the worst developer in the world to work with and is really "grinding the gears" of South Euclid.

2. The Italian restaurant will be "Chipotle style" and "there is one in Columbus."  A quick google search led me to http://www.mypiada.com

3. The Bob Evans will be the prototype store for a new Panera-esque model. (Bob Evans was so upset with Coral Co. that they bought the land and started doing everything themselves)

4. The Starbucks will have a drive-thru.

^I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to Coral, but none of this surprises me.  If all true this does not bode well for Lot 45

I found an LLC for "Piada South Euclid" was set up earlier this year - so that appears to be the first one slated for this area.

Interesting, it looks like it has the potential to be a pretty good place (interesting concept at least), and I'm sure it'll be popular with the college crowd.

What exactly does this mean?  Call me skeptical, but when I drive by, I see the same old, ugly Bob Evans that in my opinion automatically brings down whatever else is being built there several notches.

Exactly...another disgusting shopping center with outlots built up to the sidewalk.

^^ I think it's more in terms of inside... I'm not sure whether the person meant you go up and order type deal like Panera, or if they meant place to go to do work with good wifi and comfy couches and whatnot.  I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

?, Jimmy John's, Starbucks

Five Guys, ?, PetSmart

Panera, Menchie's, Sprint

Can anyone read the ones I marked with a question mark?

Top left is Chipotle. Middle/middle looks like Little Caesar's to me - though I hadn't seen an announcement on that. Missing is Piada (www.mypiada.com)

The middle one is definitely Little Caesar's (aka the revenue generator for Prince Fielder's contract with the Detroit Tigers).

Clearly there will be no shortage whatsoever of places to eat...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when the list of tenants was announced a few months back.  I think China Gate was also supposed to return to CC-N, but I haven't seen its name on the signs yet.

China Gate is also going in, the economic dev. department missed adding it to the sign. There is a very long building going up in the back that will house most of the stuff with the pet store being the anchor. The Sbux will be in the middle building. Apparently Citizens Bank may take over old Sbux space.

Glad something is finally getting built at Cedar Center North, slightly upset that with the demolition and promises essentially what we're getting is what was built back in the 1950s. I know this is affected by the economics of the time, and other uncontrollable factors, but damn!

Adjacent to Cedar Center is University Center. I am sure we all know of it as "2 Story Target". There is a Pier One Imports at the ground level. Rumor has it, they are re-locating to Legacy Village. Jo-anne's at University Center just closed and they opened a new store to replace it over at Golden Gate. Long story short, I am getting more and more concerned about that shopping center and hope that some sort of renewed interest will be coming with the Oakwood and Cedar Center developments in the area. I also should point out that if Pier is moving to Legacy, then Schneider has siphoned yet another retailer from one suburb to another neighboring one.

This place has been problematic since day one.  Verticle shopping (a concept which I like if done right...say Water Tower Place in Chicago) at its worst.  The garage was poorly constructed and is dark and univiting even if built well.  Does not address the street at all and hard to get from floor to floor and store to store.  Tops already closed years ago and now this.  Seems like 40% of the place has remained empty from the beginning.  Target is the only bright spot.

Perfect example of an inner ring suburb (University Hts.) "settling" just to get something built.

  • 3 weeks later...

That garage is not well built. Google "university square realneo". I researched it. The contractors scrimped on the plan and hung the floors off the ts instead of placing them ontop of the t's shoulders as was specified. The whole thing might have come down like a house of cards.

Pier 1 IS apparently moving to Legacy and Mitchell Schneider (now king of retail maneuvers on the eastside) is in foreclosure at his first venture in Elyria. http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2012/05/30/foreclosure-suit-filed-against-owner-of-elyria-shopping-center/

Similar story at Severance Town Center - Bally's Fitness latest to go. Pinetree responds by marketing outlots (removing the last few small shade trees to make room). What desperation!

Georgine Welo, Susan Infeld, Ed Kelley: Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas.

What has Infeld done wrong?  She wasn't even mayor when the University Square boondoggle was pitched/built.

Menchies is open

Was anything ever done to correct the issues at the garage?  I noticed that the shoring supports are all gone.  Does this mean they have fixed anything?

Supports are gone, but garage still shakes and doesn't give me a good feeling... On a related note, apparently Target wants out and has been discussing options at an under-construction, nearby development. What happens to University Square when it's just Macy's and a few others, is anybody's guess.

Where did you hear that?  And what nearby location would they move to?  I can only think of one that really fits that description.

Coral Company is behind this??

Is it just me or does this look exactly like all of the other sh!t shopping centers with a couple more tiny trees and shrubs put in??? This will be replaced again in 10 years.

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I drive by all the time and think to myself "I should snap some shots to post on UO."  Then I think to myself "Ugh, do I really want to have these pics on my computer?"

I don't know about 10 years. They actually have some strong tenants (Credit wise) and the fact that Walmart is building new to be near this intersection also speaks to this area's attractive demographics.

That said it looks remarkably like the 50 year old building that was torn down a few years ago this replaces, with a few added pieces of faux aluminum.  :-P

Well, that's the issue, isn't it. It's functional, but it's hardly timeless. Maybe not in 10 years, but I can forsee in my lifetime this complex coming down for the next 'new shiny'. Whatever that is. I'm hoping it will be a hovercar emporioum.
