September 21, 201212 yr Amazing how this evolved from what was originally proposed (multi story mixed used of retail, office and residential) to your basic ugly strip center with loads of upfront parking. It more or less replaced an outdated strip with mold and rats to a soon to be outdated strip with out those two problems (at least for now). In fact, in many ways the old strip had more "character" and quirky "suprises" than this mess. I know I keep harping on this, but Coral's track record is so mediocre. That is why I have so much fear about their involvement in Lot 45.
September 21, 201212 yr Well, that's the issue, isn't it. It's functional, but it's hardly timeless. Maybe not in 10 years, but I can forsee in my lifetime this complex coming down for the next 'new shiny'. Whatever that is. I'm hoping it will be a hovercar emporioum. LOL. This area is interesting in terms of demographics. You have some areas of wealth south and east a few miles and somewhat to the west/ South west. Then you have more middle incomes immediately surrounding it. On top of that it is right at the intersection of Two of NEO's busiest streets. That Walgreens is the busiest in NEO. It has a few somewhat attractive assets, I know DDR was interested in buying University Square at one point but at the price is was on the market for and a publicly financed parking garage with life-safety issues they weren't willing to go all in. Also for the most part it looks like this area didn't have too much of a problem attracting retailers, (University Square being the only one that does, for obvious reasons.)
September 21, 201212 yr Reminds me of when I ran out of the color lego blocks I was using for a building, and had to fill in the gaps with other random colored blocks. I hated the result then, and this brings back a familiar feeling.
September 21, 201212 yr They tore down my favorite Chinese restaurant and Corky & Lenny's for this BS?!
September 21, 201212 yr Who tore down Corky's? Corky's is over in Village Square off of Chagrin. They did tear down China Gate, which the wife's grandparents used to love. The only Chinese restaurant with a star of David inside (I don't think that impacted the flavor, though)
September 21, 201212 yr Not since I've lived in Cleveland (since 98). Maybe he's thinking of Davis Bakery, which was across the street where Whole Foods is now. That one particular Davis made the best russian tea biscuits ever.
September 21, 201212 yr There was a Corky and Lenny's in Cedar Center for years (probably the original) but it closed a long time ago. I also imagine MTS was referring to Peking Gourmet rather than China Gate, but that is just speculation.

The whippersnappers are too young to remember the original Corky & Lenny's! Camera Video of Corky & Lenny's Restaurant/Deli in Cedar-Center - S. Euclid, OH. - Sept., 1984!!
September 22, 201212 yr Haha...I was growing in my mothers womb then. I was in my senior year of high school. Long live the 80s!! I remember that Chinese restaurant well, having visited it before seeing movies like Airplane and Outland at the neighboring theater even though I didn't live in that area anymore. This design is a much more sterile version of what came before, and it doesn't entice me to come back and spend money there. What unique features does it offer to make me want to visit? At least Legacy Village has a different design that makes you want to see it, and as long as you're there you can drop a few coins. Not Cedar Center. September 22, 201212 yr The original Corky and Lenny's left long before there were ever plans to tear down and rebuild Cedar Center north. In fact that location became a Fuddrucker's for a few years in the 1990s and then it turned into something else, I think some sort of an Orthodox restaurant, which I never visited. I have a lot of warm childhood memories of times spent at Cedar Center north, but time moves on and change probably was needed. However what replaced it is a complete abomination. The disappointment of what has become the new Cedar Cedar north is in large part reflective of the terrible leadership running South Euclid these days. They've made some really bad decisions and taken on huge debts and a lot of what we're seeing now is what what happens when a local government becomes desperate to remain relevant. And in the process they've done things that affect and hurt residents in that entire area, not just those that live in S.E.
July 7, 201410 yr Instead of starting a new thread, I hope it's okay if I post this here. Anyways, something is being built on the northeast corner of Cedar Road and Miramar, but I haven't the slightest clue what it might be. All I know is that almost a dozen backhoes and other types of smaller construction equipment along with some piping are lined up on the property seemingly ready to go. Years ago there was a school/daycare there I think, but it was torn down probably in the early 1990s and the land had been a grassy patch for almost two decades. Do anyone know what this new development might be? The property isn't huge, but it does seem like it might be possible for something like another fast food place or gas station, though I don't know how that area is zoned.
July 7, 201410 yr The proposed location of Dunkin' Donuts is actually further up the street near Fenwick Road, on the University Heights side, next to the library. This location I'm talking about isn't technically Cedar Center, it's just on the periphery down closer towards Target/Burger King. So I don't think it's the DD, unless plans have changed.

Could that be zoned residential? There are a couple newer houses on the eastern edge of this space already.
July 7, 201410 yr I passed by that site on the 4th and the first thing that came to my mind was that it was some sort of staging area for utility work on Cedar or the surrounding area. I noticed some surveying posts further up Cedar which gave me that idea as I approach the site and saw the equipment and I know the gas company is replacing lines all over Cuyahoga County. Seemed like a lot of equipment and piping for a development on that lot.

They've been doing work a bit further east on Cedar Road and up Belvoir Road, so that makes sense.
