Provided photo/Cincinnati Enquirer CINCINNATI - Four years after the Navy scuttled plans to bring a Cold-War era submarine to Cincinnati's shores, the idea has resurfaced - but this time organizers want to bring only a piece of the massive vessel. Hamilton County is asking the Navy for permission to bring the sail of the USS Cincinnati to Cincinnati. The sail is the "T"-shaped tower of a submarine, often the only part of the vessel to stick out of the water... About the USS Cincinnati -The submarine is 360 feet long - roughly the length of a football field from goalpost to goalpost. It's 33 feet wide and 50 feet tall. -The sub's keel was laid in April 1974 in Newport News, Va. -The sub was decommissioned in 1994. Source: Enquirer archives
