Infrastructure Bill Brings Money for Public Transit to Ohio

A second multi-million dollar influx of federal funding will be coming to public transit authorities throughout Ohio via an infrastructure bill passed earlier this year.

The biggest portion of the funding, more than $65 million, will be headed to Cleveland, according to a listing of federal transit apportionments for the state.

Dayton’s transit will receive $41 million, nearly $30 million is headed to Cincinnati and $28 million will go to Columbus’ transit operations, among the “large urban area funding.”

  • There's very little employment action between both downtowns so that would fail.  What would make more sense is Warren and Butler Counties having transit heading to both downtown with a transfer stop

  • New FREE shuttle starting November 9th, going from RiverScape and the Ballpark down to the Pine Club on Brown, with stops by 5th & Patterson to serve the Oregon:

These Dayton-area transit projects aim to eliminate the 'barrier to opportunity'

The multi-trillion-dollar transportation market single-handedly enables millions of Americans to get to and from work each day. With employment remaining a stark challenge, eliminating any and all barriers to cultivating a flourishing workforce continue to be a priority for the region and the state.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Jack Marchbanks recently announced more than $100 million in investments to support quality public transportation in Ohio. Dayton projects received a slice of the investment pool amounting to $9 million in funding.

A total of $106 million will be awarded to 383 transit projects throughout Ohio. ODOT’s Office of Transit is awarding the funds through seven separate grant programs that focus on workforce mobility, senior citizen and special needs transportation, rural transit, and busing.

“This funding will help ensure that transportation is not a barrier to opportunity,” DeWine said. “We are improving the quality of life for Ohioans who depend on public transportation to access jobs, education and medical services.”

RTA Invests $10M to transform downtown parking garage, part of $70 million in investments over 30 years

Over the years, Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has eyed long-term options to secure funding and build a parking garage on its property downtown.

The time has come to move its plan forward and aid in the renovations of its neighboring structure: Air City Garage. The project follows decades of investment for RTA, totaling more than $70 million.

RTA will partner with the Model Group in their efforts to restore the Center City Building – by working with them on the acquisition and renovation of the closed Air City Garage at the corner of E. Fourth Street and S. Jefferson Street.

RTA will use $10 million in capital funds the entity set aside for a garage on its site to make the project a reality.

Once renovations are complete, the garage will support new residents of Center City, a local hotel and RTA. Robert Ruzinsky, CEO Greater Dayton RTA, said they will have management oversight of the garage during the project and, upon vesting of all tax credits, will take over ownership.

I'm so excited about all the improvements happening in this part of downtown with the Centre City Building mixed use project, the convention center rehab, and potentially a new police station.
