A waste of a good courthouse.

Great courthouse. The town looks pretty typical for a midwestern small town, fairly tidy and not too lively.

i dont get you, whats the waste? it looks real good. i love the municipal building too. it looks quiet around there, but nuthin wrong with that.

^Agreed. The town looks kind of quiet, but other than that it looks alright.

It is a nice enough town, but there isn't much else but the courthouse. Seems like Urbana, Ravenna, Gallipolis, etc. would be a more fitting home, but we can't change that...

I find Somerset (the seat of Perry County up to 1857) much more interesting.

Perry County kind of struggles.  New Lexington is lucky to even look this good.

New Lexington is one of the worst Southeast/Central Ohio county seats.  Though I like the IDEA of it being placed on a hilltop and their courthouse is wonderful.  Honestly, Somerset should've kept the county seat.

wow thats harsh. we didnt see awful here, so what makes it one of the worst? is it otherwise boarded up and falling apart or something?

NewLex is a bit of a snoozer as compared to its neighbors.

It depends what you like. A Cilv War hero (Somerset-Sheridan) or the liberator of Bulgaria (MacGahan-New Lexington).

Admittedly, I do like Somerset more.

Agree with the premise that the Courthouse outclasses every other New Lex structure.  But I also agree with Grasscat's comment.

Except that Perry County doesn't "kind of" struggle - it STRUGGLES!  What is Perry's unemployment rate now, 10% to 15%?

I think this is a good response; like I said, there just isn't much to New Lexington:

The downtown is a snooze, the residential lacks compared to Somerset, too much "negative space," and a feeling of Silent Hill.
