Hallelujah!  The overreliance on Twitter-link spamming has really made navigating UO slow and cumbersome.  Maybe people could just post links to actual articles.  Or God forbid, come up with their own original thoughts to post!

I don't have any issues with my cable modem.

Since it came up, just an fyi that non-twitter users are often blocked from seeing content on that platform now. It's a recent thing (past few months). If that sways any of you from using their format to share content, that's up to you :)  Personally I've held out this long and wont be making an account.

Barricades and fencing are now up around the entire surface lot that will be the site of the SHW Parking Garage. West Third to West Sixth and along St Clair.

I have been wanting to post this question for a while now but I didn't want to come across as "that type of person" but since in real life I am that type of person....why is it we have not heard a peep about any developments on the land adjacent to the SHW headquarters along West 6th and along St. Clair, probably the most valuable development sites in town?

Basically, my fear in this regard is the "team" at SHW is dropping the ball or, probably more likely, not even taking the time or having the interest to play with the ball, despite what initiating development of these parcels would mean for its own headquarters and the city as a whole.

I am sure some will argue that the SHW "team" (you know those guys who smile at commission meetings when good suggestions are made regarding urban planning and design, and then completely ignore them because they know they can) is too busy with the actual headquarters project.  However, at this point I imagine most of the heavy lifting is coming to an end and implementation is to a large extent in the hands of the hired construction experts.

Another argument may be that they need the land for construction staging the next couple of years.  Probably true (although they also have that "temporary parking lot" next to the headquarter on Superior which they could use for staging...I mean things get built in New York without acres of land for staging...a bright person could figure it out).  However, even if they sold the land tomorrow it would probably take a developer a couple of years to complete the necessary planning (including the usual tough nut of financing)  and go through the city planning process, so it should not be an issue.

Again I know the "team" is busy with the headquarters but let's see if they can walk and chew gum at the same time.  Maybe they are chewing gum and all is being kept secret in true paint boy fashion, but one who have thought that at least some little crumb would have leaked by now if this was actually happening.

An excellent question, @Htsguyand one that’s probably of high interest on this forum.

I don't think the Weston "plan" was ever much more than a conceptual pretty picture.  Lots of those in Cleveland over the years.  They really don't cost much especially when compared to pulling the trigger on the real thing.

Well Htsguy you're probably correct in your assumptions. The problem is you're thinking like an urban planner and not like a company thst owns some land in the heart of a city. The best use of that land and what it should look like is probably not on their agenda. Their focus is on how THEY can best utilize it...or not.

A progressive company would probably share many of your concerns. But most companies aren't progressive.

I think this pretty much sums it up. It’s valuable land by Cleveland standards but probably not valuable enough to overcome conservative institutional inertia.

There's a plan for multiple high rises in the immediate vicinity of Sherwin Williams, be on the lookout...  👀

Yes, can you at least give us a timeline as to when this sort of news may drop?

Will be within the next 2-4 months

Will be within the next 2-4 months

Are you in a position where you know the details but can’t publicly say?

Really hoping residential. And I think that makes the most sense give the current office climate. We could really see a boom if we get a few more residential towers downtown there.

On W9th street maybe?

And a hotel. The WHD has needed a hotel for decades. Corner of 6th and St. Clair would be the perfect spot.

I'm hopeful that I will be able to do that -- when the time is right. It's one of several high-rises planned downtown.

Are these “several” high-rises in the SHW vicinity? Or multiple locations downtown?

I would venture to say that the bomb already dropped this morning on Urban Ohio.

Several.  High-rises. Planned. Multiple Locations. Downtown.

Ok I got to ask, is what’s being referenced the projects we’re aware of?  (E.g. Bedrock development)

More new highrises you say? *yawns* Boring!

Can you tell us the nearest parking garages so that we can begin reserving space for future UO lounges?

That project is dead, unfortunately.

As for the references to several high-rises, I danced around them as best I could in this July 6 artice....

What would be considered a high rise?

To me, for Cleveland (in feet):

high rise:  > 350

mid rise: 200 to 350

low rise: < 200

So, these planned buildings would be greater than 350 feet?

@deanhorn I responded here....

For comparison, The Lumen's tower crane was installed Oct. 1, 2018 and the last floor was poured Nov. 23, 2019. That's 396 feet in 419 days with a brief delay to due a crane mishap.

SHW's HQ will be 616 feet. I don't know if it will rise in 616 days +/-. Probably faster since the SHW HQ's floor heights are taller than The Lumen's.

The Lumen rose a floor every ten days (ground floor ceiling height was greater than the floors above).  SHW HQ is steel and should rise faster -- probably at least a floor per week.  About 40 weeks to top out?

I wonder if the SHW tower's bigger footprint would affect that pace.

yes afaik and see that seems to be the standard for steel towers. that is one of the fun parts to watch. however, prepare for slow going initially at the base and then again especially at the crown where things always seem to appear delayed -- from our peanut gallery point of view that is.

Wasn't the Lumen all concrete construction?  That's a different animal compared to the pace of construction as their is time needed for the concrete to cure before you can continue up.  Steel, you just bolt or weld and off you go.

Absolutely -- even though the SHW tower's footprint is much larger we're expecting it to go up faster.  How fast?  We shall see....

Does anybody have any recent pics?

No, but I just drove by. They built a plywood enclosure around the base of the crane base with a man door today. Probably to try to keep hooligan influencers from climbing it.

it pretty much looks just like the July 13 photo above, but with a plywood box around the crane base.
