Agreed.  I'm more interested in the phase two structure potentially bringing in positions from outside the region.  That would be a real sign of city growth.

100% agree- and could likely add more glass to the skyline.  Height-wise, I'm hoping for something as tall as the Hilton.  Having that right next to the main headquarters would enhance the visual of the site even more (and you west-siders will get some of the better views).

Not to get off topic, but one of my favorite Cleve skyline shots is to the south- specifically at Zelma George along Kinsman.  The SHW headquarters should will fill a significant gap and make that view even better.

Want to make sure everyone understands; if you have a comment that’s pretty clearly off topic, or tangential enough - you are empowered to say “hey folks, I have a somewhat but not quite related comment but going to post it at _(the new thread YOU created)”.

For example, if you think the new SHW building resembles another building in a different city, great - discuss it all you want in a different thread. Want to discuss Inner Harbor? Same thing - make a thread for it and have at it.

The Admins and Mods don’t get compensated for keeping threads tidy and on topic, please be respectful of our effort and time.

Really moving on that core!

Nice to see that Sherwin-Williams is now acknowledging that the massive construction site is for their new HQ with snappy new signage.  LOL

that building is going to have to be more ‘open’ than the hq bunker if they are going to have space for visitors, contractors and the like coming and going inside. plus thats away from public square, so maybe they can put a little street facing cafe at the entrance there? you know, like a um, err, grown up city building. or i have to say like olde cleveland would have had? ha. anyway, i know thats down the line, but its worth a pitch by the city planning folks when they get there.

Speaking of pitches, it would be cool to see SW sponsor some public art wall downtown. Sponsor artists to come in on a regular, rotating basis and use Sherwin Williams paint to create cool pieces with marketing potential. That's probably too much to expect from a conservative paint company but you never know.

I don't see a thread for the Sherwin Williams research and development project. It's like the red headed step child on U.O. since it's not in downtown Cle. But, this massive townhome/apartment/loft building went up quickly in the Valor Acres section of the land. "Luxury At Canvas" they are calling it.

Thank you. Clearly, I'm not the only one not seeing it. There hasn't been a post in a year!

That went up very quick. I drove right by there about 3-4 weeks ago and there was nothing.

Friday update.  And what a beautiful day.

You can also see that they've dug for the new foundation for the pavilion.

We should start seeing steel for the tower sometime this month.

Can't get a feel for how big the outer office space will be as the mechanical core seems pretty large. It's almost up to the street. Doesn't seem to leave much room for actual offices. Maybe it's just an optical illusion.

^ yeah does look like that, doesn’t it? kinda funny.

also in that pic its great to see them clearing dirt for the training center. you can even get a bead on where it will be sited on the block already.

I go by it frequently, it's really the platforming around the concrete that gives it that illusion. The actual mechanical core itself is probably like 50 plus feet from the sidewalk.

Even with so much more still to go, it’s already amazing seeing an actual structure here. Can’t wait until it’s a full towering skyscraper!

From your first photo I can envision in my mind the fourth wall closing in. Symmetry!

This'll be a neat spot to watch it rise:

I dont know if it's me, but doesnt the tower footprint look a little underwhelming than what it looks like in the renderings? Maybe we just need everything else to rise...

It fills out the whole block north to south like the plans and renderings, what looks underwhelming exactly?

So far it’s an elevator core.  I think it’ll fill out noticeably when steel begins to rise.

Calm down

Is it too late to just scrap the project?  🙄

it’s getting, umm, chutzpah, pretty quickly now. 👍

It’s going to take until later in 2024 to complete the new SW tower,  but we’ll also have the fun of seeing new Cleveland logos, tv  backdrops and so on in the near future - the company below might be the first to update their look to reflect our future skyline.  .

Couldn’t do it; I was a tour guide driving out of town-ers around

Low quality stoplight picture from the other night. But first time seeing it in person since this core has started rising, and was pleasantly surprised with its size and presence.

Friday (and yesterday) update.  Here's a pic from this lousy Friday, and from yesterday, when conditions were a lot better.   It looks like they laid some sort of membrane on the footprint of the pavilion and and are now covering it up with soil.  Not sure what that is, or could mean.

Soooooooo where is that construction cam?

From the river a few days back--the crane was peeking above the R&D center.

Note they are finally excavating the land where the parking garage will be.

Sherwin-William HQ+R&D rises to $750 million
By Ken Prendergast / November 22, 2022

Sherwin-Williams (SHW) has announced that construction costs for its new headquarters in downtown Cleveland plus its research and development facility in suburban Brecksville have increased from at least $600 million to $750 million. But the cause, according to the global coatings giant, isn’t entirely what’s affecting all other construction projects — inflation and interest rates. Instead, it cited compliance with state, county and municipal regulations in hiring minority- and female-owned subcontractors and suppliers, plus local small businesses. Those regulations were triggered because of public-sector resources SHW tapped for these projects.
