January 19, 20232 yr Quote It would be skinny, but I would take a Steinway tower (NYC) in our skyline!
January 19, 20232 yr Remember back when SW’s plans were not specifically known but we thought the tower would be on the Jacoba lot? @KJPhad written that a one million square foot building on that plot could reach Key Tower height. The change to the larger parcel behind Jacoba lot resulted in the wider 616’ building we all are watching grow up right now. Yea, part of me would’ve loved a 900-1000 footer but the move back off the square and the actual height will result in a more balanced symmetry for the overall skyline, IMO. I also think SW’s design does a really nice job of breaking up the bulk of the tower into slimmer, more appealing sections. I’m also excited to eventually see the redesigned lighting at the crown - that could be very effective. And overall, what an amazing difference this building is going to make downtown.
January 20, 20232 yr My wife and I took our eldest daughter to Johnny’s for dinner before attending a show at Playhouse (they assured me Beetlejuice was a family friendly program… the family in front of us left during intermission. It was certainly something, but they had a blast, so I can’t complain). During our meal, the gentleman behind me remarked to the waiter “Now is that a new condo building going up across the street?” The waiter goes “It’s the international headquarters for the William Sherwin company” before pouring wine and walking away. My wife, who’s quite aware of the project, quips “Mr. William Sherwin must need one large condo.” I forget how unaware of local projects most people are, but then again, most people don’t use UO as their morning paper. But here it is, the condo in question…
January 20, 20232 yr Great perspective. The feel of West 9th will certainly change with a skyscraper replacing that massive lot. Time to bump that crane up soon?

January 20, 20232 yr Thank you @ELaunderand @freethink! The 3rd floor has already nearly made it around the core. Man, this steel is going up fast! They will be caught up to the cores height in no time! Edited January 20, 20232 yr by Silent Matt
January 20, 20232 yr Running into Starbucks this morning and ALL was dropping off more crane parts. Wonder if they’ll do a tower for the parking garage.
January 20, 20232 yr Here you go! You can't get any closer to the sidewalk than that. I can't wait until we get to the advanced stages of construction!Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk
January 20, 20232 yr How great would it be if SW decided they needed the cash after an offer from a company that wanted to build a new 25 story hotel on the Jacoba lot? I know…not happening - bring on The Shack
January 20, 20232 yr I don't think SHW wants anything blocking their view to the east, that's likely why they are putting a short shack in the Jacob's lot.

Yes, they're doing a tower crane for the parking garage. Read it in an article somewhere.... And did someone say "short stack"? January 22, 20232 yr A paint museum would need a basement. Isn't that where most people store their leftover paint? Seems like a natural part of the experience.
January 22, 20232 yr If I may, Who the f would go to a paint museum? Or is this an ongoing joke that I completely whiffed on?

A paint museum would be a step up in public interaction from what SW is actually going to put on Public Square- a corporate training center with no public access. Which is a different sort of joke, really.
January 22, 20232 yr ^ This. It floors me that they didn't use this high profile space for retail, marketing, or any sort of real public interaction.
January 23, 20232 yr Meant to post these the other day - taken Saturday. The street presence is really taking shape, same with the entire look and feel from Public Square, looking down W3rd, everywhere really! Already making such a difference and impact. Also note the new smaller yellow crane which I’d assume is for the garage.
January 23, 20232 yr Thanks @urbanetics_i especially liked that pic taken from Public Square looking west - man, is that view gonna change! The last photo really underscores how much we need some color infusion. I wonder how blue SW’s coloration will be - or how steel blue? Gonna be interesting to see the exact tone. January 23, 20232 yr 'Thanks. 'Love these images! 'Happy here with the timeless classic elegance and continuity that shades of grey & tan bring to our city. They are the canvas for great colorful storefronts & awnings and as a backdrop for the trees & sidewalk amenities that should be going into place at the human scale. Someone mentioned on a U.O. thread once, and it still rings true for me; Paris, Rome, Chicago, & NYC are mostly shades of grey & tan - to excellent effect. IMO, faking up a building with bright colors is no substitute for what is supposed to organized at street level. Pink & teal look great on buildings & homes in Miami. To me such trendy colors looks ridiculous everywhere else. Edited January 23, 20232 yr by ExPatClevGuy typos
January 24, 20232 yr Yesterday. They already started the 4th floor and we can see a little covered, shelter area on the second floor corner. *Also, note that on the 4th floor is where we see the height difference in the floors start.* Edited January 24, 20232 yr by Silent Matt
January 24, 20232 yr @Silent Matt, Please keep the pictures coming. I appreciate them and look forward to your updates. As @Silent Mattpoints out, the fourth floor starts the tower only floors, so the building should rise faster now. This is assuming the concrete core can keep up. It will be interesting to see whether this building or the City Club reaches the 20th floor first.

Also I ask that everyone take it easy on me for the quality of the photos, as I have to bump down the resolution of these to only a couple hundred kilobytes because we only get a finite amount of MegaBytes to post here on Urban Ohio.
January 26, 20232 yr @urbanetics_ After looking through the thread, I noticed that many of the pictures were yours, so I am sorry that I have not given you credit. Your pictures track the progress of this building too from many different views. I did not mean to slight you in any way, so keep your pictures coming too - thanks!
January 26, 20232 yr so So what is the little covered shelter all about? And thanks to everyone posting photos here......since we don't have a construction cam.

January 27, 20232 yr What happened to the crane? Are they switching something out with a helicopter? They're really moving now, the core is approaching the mid portion (floors 10-20). Nice work!

So, I am guessing that the covered shelter is to protect the people outside from the weather elements. This is on the South side of the building, so it is going to get a lot of sun in the summer and the glass of the building is going to reflect a lot of sun and heat.
January 28, 20232 yr Please excuse the poor quality but here's my attempt at taking a crane pic through the optical lense at Lakewood Park.

January 29, 20232 yr If I'm not mistaken, could that be the core also visible in the viewer photo? The building is getting tall enough to be seen at a distance! Edited January 29, 20232 yr by RoabeArt
January 29, 20232 yr One more pic to contribute...participated in DCA's downtown living tour yesterday and here's the view from the model unit at 75 Public Square.
January 30, 20232 yr This is really starting to move fast! Between the tower, garage, and pavilion, that site is going to be a beehive of activity over the spring and summer months.

The concrete pump is clearly visible in the photo. It is just to the left of the crane and is on top of the core. When another couple of stories are added to the core, this will really pop in the skyline from the Lakewood park view (and from other locations). From this point to topping out, things are going to get really exciting.
