Can't be more than one more floor until the crane jump.

Too bad it's not another 16 feet.  That way it would be taller than Queen City Square and we'd be back to having the three tallest in Ohio (and 4 of the 5 tallest).  :)

Off by a bit. Would need 48 49 feet to eclipse Great America

1. Key Tower 947 948 feet

2. Terminal Tower 771 708 [Edit - flagpole doesn't count]

3. Great America Tower / Queen City Square 665 (although the roof is at 495, because the tiara counts, so I think SHW will have higher usable space)

4. 200 Public Square 658

[correction] 5. Rhodes Tower 629
6. NEW SHW HQ 618 616

7. (Currently #6) Carew Tower 574

8. LeVeque Tower 555

I thought SW was going to be 650.

Someone made the comment earlier that you don't get the true sense of just how large the building is (even at this point), until you're standing near it.  Having been downtown on Saturday evening, I can say just how true that comment was.  It's quite impressive to see it up close.  I can only imagine what it will look and feel like when it's complete.

yea, the tower is going to feel massive from the sidewalk.

Just an FYI, you can't use QCS's "roof height" and leave off Key and Terminal's roof heights as well (888' and 709').

Even the addition of a modest spire would allow SHW Tower to overtake PPG Place (635 ft) for some industry bragging rights 😀

Yes I can, because those don’t impact height rankings, which was the only reason I included the roof height of Great America. Long live the tiara!

I didn't realize the Sky Trek Tower was in the conversation.

The Daily Planet headquarters is a solid template. If one were to need a visual.  Ahemmmm Jo mmm hn hmmmMorikishmmm

Folks, there are established standards for determining height (spires count, flagpoles and antennas do not, etc.). Those of us who have been tracking this stuff since before some forumers were likely born remind you of the following:

  • Key Tower - 948’ to top of the spire, 888’ to the top of the pyramid
  • Terminal Tower - 708’ to the structural top, the 70’ flagpole does not count toward the official height
  • Sherwin Williams - 616’; not 618, not 650 - 616’

I can't believe I was off by 1' for Terminal Tower.  I'm slipping...

Wow 3 cranes up in downtown at once! When was the last time this happened??

Do we have evidence of a crane foundation for the parking garage? If not, those crane pieces are likely for the next jump of the crane that's building the tower.

Downtown mayor Pete saw it last week

Yep, as @BoomerangCleResmentioned and behind the sign on the right side of my drive by pic. If you look closely, there are crane sections on both the north (likely for the garage) and west sides (possibly for the tower - just above the SUV in my pic) of the site.

i can’t believe how over the moon i am about this angle. that hideous and embarrassingly empty view is finally gone for good. what a sight to behold!

gettin' pretty snug at the bottom of that crane.

I wonder when we will start seeing the facade getting installed. From the timeline they share on their website; if they are on schedule, it looks like it should begin in April.

Current progress.

This is great, thanks for sharing. However, it really sucks for you, because now you have to update this every week or so :P

We UO members evidently have become SWH construction addicts.  A little fix each day keeps us running.  Hopefully, there is another large scale construction project underway when this one ends.

Very cool - when does the schedule call for topping off?

I'll do my best! Just keep the pics coming so I have some sort of reference haha

I just love SHW for staying in Cleveland and building such a beautiful building!  May their company live long and prosper!  And many thanks to all you photographers contributing your great photos for us to enjoy!  Really interesting to watch!

i wonder where they are keeping the facade materials? may be worth a little investigative work. usually they have a few sections of it up in a lot somewhere for in-house viewing well before it gets moved to the site to be installed.

There is a small section erected last spring in the lot at Scranton and Carter roads in the flats.

^ oh right i forgot about that --- is it still there?

i see a lot of these and that one is quality i tell ya.

Looks like we’re going to see a lot of buildings reflected in the SW tower based on that pic.

I wish all downtown Cleveland streets were the width of Rockwell/Frankfort.

SHW HQ is going to fill that vista.

For sure - and one of the added benefits of the Superior bike lanes will be breaking up that mountain of asphalt on Superior.

They are setting the forms for the 12th floor of concrete. Also, check out the crane. Looks like they're bumping it up.

Are they walling in the tower crane, the portion inside the base of the building, and leaving that portion of the crane there permanently?   See Silent Matt's pic above.

Usually a crane is erected in what will be an elevator shaft, mechanical shaft or stairwell. Later, another, mobile crane will be used to hoist all the crane sections out of the shaft and the shaft will be built out as intended.

They don't usually entomb cranes in the buildings they built.

The walls you see in the picture are just temporary walls. For safety and to allow the project to be move forward in the area around the tower crane base. Once the crane is disassembled the area will be finished with the necessary steel and concrete and other finishers. Similar to when a buck hoist is installed at the side of a building during construction to get materials to each floor and also transport the construction crews. That’s just my take as a Union Carpenter here in Cleveland.

The view down Euclid and E. 9th is already feeling much more “wowing”; I wanted to stop and take a pic but I remembered we have a bunch here already :-D

I’m ready for more skyline-changing construction and we’re not even done with this.
