Wow, SHW is going to fill a very big gap as viewed from the VVB. 

 

I can't yet see the crane yet from my fifth-floor in Lakewood, but I can see the Big 3. So it's only a matter of time before I'll be able to see SHW.

Was just browsing Pickard Chiltons instagram and the SHW HQ is nowhere to be found on it. So I went to their website and it’s not even shown under their “current work” section. But they love showing off the new Mutual of Omaha HQ that just broke ground a month or two ago (it is a pretty sexy building).
Just curious why they show off all their cool projects but not a single mention of our new kid on the block.
My only guess is, for whatever odd reason, they were asked by the conservative SHW brass not to.

Not sure if this comment belongs in the SWH thread... but do any fellow UO posters have information as to how the crane operators actually do their work?  For example, how long are their shifts ? Where do they eat? Do they climb all the way down if they have to relieve themselves?  How much distance does the cab sway in the wind before they need to shut ecerything down. 

 

As someone who is afraid of heights, I find a crane operator's job both fascinating and kind of freaky.

No, look at the graphic closely - the tip top is 616’

No. It's 616'. On the drawings the elevation of the first floor is 100', so you have to subtract 100' from the elevations in this snip.

I've been noticing this for a long time.  My first instinct was perhaps PC isn't very proud of the design - it strikes me as disappointingly similar to Owens Illinois'/One Seagate late 70's building in Toledo.  But then I realized there are far more boring buildings on their site, so it must be Sherwin Williams.  Imagine creating a shiny new home, but not wanting it noticed...

Thanks @MayDay.  I read the article and then ran a quick search on Youtube and (un?)fortunately there are more than a few videos taken from the top of the cranes. Big Yikes! Back to my regular rotation of kittens and baby chicks hanging out together in wicker baskets.

It's amazing how much area there still is on the East-end of the property that could be developed.  I really hope that isn't held by SW for a potential Ph2.  In this office market climate, I could only imagine that wouldn't materialize anytime soon.

I thought I heard that the phase 2 tower to the west might be happening relatively soon to provide space for companies with whom SHW does business.

I thought it might happen sooner rather than later so that SHW could move more of its employees to downtown Cleveland.

I'd bet a million dollars SHW made the firm sign a non-disclosure agreement.  SHW was very secretive about their plans, so they must have insisted on keeping this off the web.  The NDA may be moot by now, but the firm just might not want to push the issue with SHW.  Either way, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Some companies just won’t let vendors merchandise they work they do for them. I’ve seen it in various industries throughout my career. Not sure why.

Friday update.  Long overdue.  I've been out of town for awhile.

That's a "missing tooth" that will be nice to see filled... (3-10-23)

A nice problem to have when we can complain we have enough high-rise buildings where they are consistently blocking one another. 

 

Also bonus I looked out my window and saw the crane moving today. Guess they work on Saturdays too? Not sure how common that is or maybe they're just making up for yesterday's snow.

They very well could be working, it's also possible that the crane was turning in the wind... When not in use cranes aren't "locked out" and will rotate themselves to point with the wind vector to reduces stress.

Status as of March 11th 🙂 

Well that's just the coolest thing I've seen all day. 

The crane will compete for the 2nd tallest structure downtown for a short while. 

Crane now clearly visible from Valley View bridge - which always gives a nice skyline view. 

My wife shot this Friday night as a passenger in the car I was driving

Just because you see Burke, doesn’t mean that’s the origination. Flights out of Burke typically leave from the west end and make a rather sharp bank to the north. Trust me, @Paul in Clevelandknows the plane he’s on 👍

Driving by the building, even from the Shoreway bridge, the building always is bigger than what we can see in the pics.  But the pics give us different viewpoints.  So keep up the good work, we appreciate them!!
