March 19, 20232 yr I'm grateful that we are getting a new super-tall on PS. However, I can't help but feel a little upset as to the design choice. It does not IMO complement the other three buildings and looks like it will sick out like a sore thumb. I just wish SH and the designers took more time to try and figure out ways to help the building blend in with the rest better.

Yes, the design isn’t groundbreaking, but why on earth would it have to blend in? That’s the opposite of what buildings in Cleveland should be doing.

Half a dozen buildings in Chicago meet this definition, but nothing else in the Midwest. (Not even any proposed projects!) While I don’t expect the SHW building to win any design awards, I think it is a nice, high quality building and I am extremely happy that the tower is west of West 3rd - the impact on the skyline will be so much better. I’m disappointed with how they are using the Public Square lot, but the tower is good and in the right spot. It does a MUCH better job of filling in gaps, spreading out the tallest buildings for more balance, and filling a former dead zone. The additional spread also means more sight lines to Cleveland’s true stunners - Terminal Tower and Key Tower - will be maintained. From my perspective, the architect’s goal should be to complement, not blend in. I’m confident they’ve achieved that goal. I think they’ve made many high quality design decisions and I’m glad to see this being added to the skyline. Another example - the Beacon doesn’t blend in at all (even with the parking podium that it’s built on) and it looks AWESOME in the skyline. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?
March 19, 20232 yr It certainly is nice to see those surface lots gone. But I would have preferred it being taller and tapered towards the top. One thing that bothers me is how Key Tower dominates the skyline, kind of like an extended middle finger. ☺️ Well, maybe we will see something tallish on the nuCLEus site eventually.

I really like that Cleveland’s tallest building is a beautiful, fantastic skyscraper. It’s stunning. I feel bad for cities whose tallest building is ugly, like Buffalo. March 19, 20232 yr It’s pretty clear that SW didn’t want to eclipse the TT as 2nd tallest building - they made a conscious design choice to have very large floor plates and distribute square footage across very wide floors. This isn’t surprising given the “personality” of the company - a somewhat conservative image they’ve always fostered. Having said that, they did move the design from reports of a corporate bland rectangular exemplar in OKC to a design with a fairly interesting roofline that literally points towards the Terminal Tower’s tip and which will include lighting at the crown. The building design does do a nice job of separating the building’s bulkiness into slimmer sections, IMO. And we’re seeing just how impactful the building set back away from the west side of the square already is and will be. I’m excited to see just how well it “complements” the big 3 and the skyline in general - I think we’re going to feel pretty good about it. Though it’s far from a Supertall - it is still big-city construction. I’m definitely enjoying seeing it rise with the nearly daily updates here on the forum.

Speaking of the lighting: I'm ecstatic they added the lighting element to the crown instead of just the vertical strips. Now it will be distinctive and also more visible from all angles. I know we have that one rendering of it, but has anyone seen, or can anyone add that to current renders? My photo editing skills are parallel to a third graders at best.

I've said it before, but I'm glad we are getting a relatively tall, glassy modern looking building. There's too much beige dominating the skyline. I'd like to see a few more SWHQ, Hilton, Ernst & Young, Erieviews or One Clevelands in the future.

March 20, 20232 yr This has to look cool from the approach on 2 in either direction - can't say I come across the Main Ave. bridge that often, but if anyone's taking the 55 in please snap a pic! Also PS, nice job everyone photoshopping blue skies into the pics, y'all really have me convinced the sun exists.
March 20, 20232 yr Still working on a safe "view from 2" shot, but here's a "first of spring bluebird day" pic from the hill on Public Square 😎
March 21, 20232 yr Looks like they're setting up a hoist (external elevator) too. Thanks everyone for the photo updates!

March 22, 20232 yr Hardly ever make comments, but that third picture taken by @MayDay with the “mounted police” is an absolute stunner! I like all photos but a special thanks to MAYDAY for that particular shot! It also makes the SHW building look massive! Can hardly wait till it’s finished! BEAUTIFUL! March 22, 20232 yr @MayDay sure has been providing some fantastic & artistic SW shots - and the peanut gallery is loving ‘em. The heart of downtown around Public Square will rival the best of almost any major city in the country once this new tower is completed . ( Love the photo from the square - I wish public square was more grass and less concrete - but that’s a minor critique and really for another thread)

March 22, 20232 yr It may be an illusion, but it looks to me as though the core takes up a huge portion of each of the upper floors. Edited March 22, 20232 yr by urb-a-saurus
March 22, 20232 yr Does anyone have any inside baseball knowledge on if they're on schedule/happy with progress? I'd imagine our light winter helped out some.
March 22, 20232 yr One would think so. Speaking of schedule, I wonder if there’s a scheduled date for when it will top out. It won’t be that long before that core rises above the top of 55. Pretty cool stuff! Edited March 22, 20232 yr by CleveFan

This has been up all along. I guess bldg foundation and core should be done by fall-ish but...will it?

March 23, 20232 yr Judging from that schedule, seems like they'll start wrapping it in glass in another month or two.

March 24, 20232 yr Yesterday. Floors 9 and 10 of steel going up fast. BTW, if you're wondering how tall the "shack" will be, it is exactly as tall as the first two floors of the tower. Edited March 24, 20232 yr by Silent Matt
