I think the angled top of the building and the angled footprint of the shack will combine to create some really interesting forced perspectives up close, and add a new dynamic to the Square.  I was REALLY glad they decided to set the skyscraper back a block.  When you think about it, the "Sohio" building sits back a short block, and the taper twins sit on the diagonal corners of the square, so really no tall building sits RIGHT on Public Square.  Makes Public Square feel a little bigger.  Just random thoughts...

I don't think it will really add any "dynamic to the square" since it is basically a SHW fortress with no public engagement or amenities and, at least from the last renderings I saw, a whole host of benches that you can lean against but cannot sit on.  I do agree that the skyscraper is better place on the next block as it addresses the Terminal Tower from that location much better.

Just think how easy and welcoming it would have been for SW to split shack with a public / private divide and include a PS facing cafe.

Sheez. It's not like any other company has figured out how to do this around the world.

And their architect has done exactly that with other more enlightened corporate clients.

Well, SW announced that one of their major drivers for building the new headquarters was to attract the next generation of workers.  Did they bother to speak to any of them?

This conversation will just make us angry all over again. Best to stop.

@HtsGuy, I hear you.  But I think @chrino21was referring solely to the visual dynamic as seen from the pedestrian level. For what it’s worth, I agree with him. Unfortunately, it’s difficult visualize the effects of something that’s not yet built. I think we are ALL disappointed with the lack of public access to the building as it occupies a prominent spot on the city’s most pedestrian-oriented space.

I think it will had to a more vibrant square if only due to thousands more people having it as their destination.  I know these folks are not currently too far from the square but most people don't venture far from their offices.  So, just from employees coming down for a breath of fresh air - including many from the training center shack - there will be more people, and a bit more energy.

Here’s a sneak peek of the view from Fahrenheit’s new rooftop!

Indeed I was -  a different VISUAL dynamic, though I guess I wasn't clear.  I agree that the lack of public amenities is disappointing.

Rocco must’ve talked SHW into keeping the shack at that low elevation. The Hotel Cleveland sign will look fantastic from the Fahrenheit rooftop.

I've got my pitchfork ready to picket opening night of Fahrenheit, he's probably the reason there's no public access too. Jerk.

In all seriousness, that's a good call - between that, the shack lit up, tower lit up, and general activity around there it's going to be a pretty darn cool spot to hang out. Hopefully the patio is open in winter for a UO Meetup - we've had too many inside! lol

Public Square is going to feel immensely cooler in the coming months as the SW project gets nearer to completion and with energy from Fahrenheit. Yeah, that hotel Cleveland sign will be neat!  Great to see the investment in our city!

Is this the only restaurant on the square other than Rebol?

Taco Bell, and Pura Vida also

I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure Pura Vida is no more. There is a menu in the window but I've walked by it during lunch and dinner hours recently and it hasn't been open, both on weekdays and weekends.

And the hot dog vendor on 3rd and Superior. Nice man

Not counting Il Venetian?  And wasn't there a big space configured for Ruth's Chris in 200PS not too long ago?  That must've been before covid.  Seems like some restaurant would snap that space up.

There will be a restaurant in Hotel Cleveland

Jake's on the Square is a great little deli.  Love their reuben.

Ruth’s opened shortly before Covid, and never survived it. Sucks.

He really is a nice man. I've exchanged pleasantries with him for 15 years. Highly recommend supporting him. That type of person hawking hot dogs on street really contributes to what I love about cities.

Safe to say that any concerns about the quality of the glass of the tower are being put to rest…

Fun fact - ‘Love Shack’ (Fred Schneider’s part) is the ONLY song I will do for karaoke.

Next UO meetup at Galaxy Karaoke? oof that'd be embarasing.

It is rather amazing what an impact this building has... imagine a few more!! haha ... Already there is a sense of 'completeness' when standing in Public Square. Now let's just hope the rest of the parking lot gets developed with 'phase 2' and infill along West 6th and St. Clair.

Not sure what you mean. The glass looks fairly unremarkable to me.

Looks like the shack is going to have a large atrium in the middle (currently occupied by a crane) that we'll only be able to see by pressing our noses against the glass...

Looks to be about 9 or 10 more stories for the core.

This is about the sweetest architecture story I've ever seen.  Kudos to Sherwin Williams!  Years ago, I rescued Destructa cat from Irishtown bend while taking pics of a fog bank sliding under the skyline.  She had been dumped there, over the cliff.  She turned out to be the sweetest, most social, most appreciative being I've ever known, and we spent 20 great years together.  Give a hug to Sherwin from Destructa - may you two be as happy as we were!

I agree it’s nice. I don’t mean unremarkable in a bad way. I was just curious what your point about the quality was because it looks like basically regular glass to me.

Understood.  I was just sort of responding to the way earlier posts of those that were worried about the glass looking "wavy."  It looks fine (to me anyway).  I'm just happy to see the modern blue color and the buildings around the square reflecting in it....

I think you're referring to me and others.  I still think that, rather strangely, those first few panels of glass look VERY wavy when they show up in more recent pictures.  It was kind of shocking, but most of the sections since then look just fine.  I've always known that the building will be reflecting mostly sky, so things will look very good, if not gorgeous.  I also think that having the window frames in a lighter color, rather than black, will look good once the building is mostly sky.

Yeah I totally regret saying anything at first. Comparing it to other exterior to glass on buildings I think it's pretty similar. It's mostly noticeable when there is a reflection and shows which the first few floors show. You can see it clearly in these pics of the Lumen. I know longer think there's anything wrong with the glass.
