Should be a pretty little shack. I'm really excited for the planned landscaping. Best case scenario it forces public square to up its game.

So here is one of my Debbie Downer posts.  May Day's second pic is a good example of how insignificant the "shack" is on this prime piece of Public Square real estate.  I believe it has now reached its full height and you cannot even see it from across the square as it is blocked by some still relatively immature trees.

But you have a consolation prize of the view being filled by a 600+ foot tall modern skyscraper. I think we'll be okay.

You are correct.  We will be "okay" but it could have and should have been so much more...especially on the Jacobs lot.  We know Pickard knows how to design engaging projects (see their work in Richmond we discussed a few pages back), we just did not get it on Public Square.  In any event, all water under the bridge at this point.

This could go lots of places, but I’m putting it here.

@MayDay.  I hope you don't mind I used one of your photographs to overlay the pavilion onto the construction site.

Does anyone know the total height/floors of the SHW parking garage? If I remember correctly, the garage will be taller then the lobby/museum building on the Jacobs lot. Am I correct, can anyone provide details?

Five levels above grade and one basement level.

The parking structure is a little taller, but not that significant to be seen over the pavilion.  The Pavilion levels are each 20 feet. The parking structure's levels are 11'-4" in comparison

I think every major city, possibly with the exception of Dubai, has something similar to “the shack” among their most prominent buildings.  If it makes sense in the future, it’s an easy tear down for a tower 3.

FTR, I say that with the understanding that tower 2 is not likely imminent.

You say “okay” like that’s nothing.

I say the shack will be *extremely* okay. It deserves one big thumb up. It deserves an enthusiastic sitting ovation. It deserves a three-star review that merely says “Wow!” People will come from far and wide to look at it and say “Mmm.”

It's better than continuing to be a surface lot or a parking garage, which were quite likely two options being seriously considered by SHW execs.

That said, it still sucks.

I'm not sure if anyone had posted SWs 2nd quarter update.  It's on their website. Headquarters Project Milestones (sherwin-williams.com).  I was not able to paste in the link.

I always walk by this outdoor sculpture and wish that Sherwin Williams could hire the artist, Phillip K Smith III  to design a piece to sit in front of The Pavilion.  By day it is mirrored that would match the buildings glass and at night the panels turn into color fields.   https://www.pks3.com/works/parallel-perpendicular

Can’t remember where I saw it, but there was a documentary about high rise construction, if you look closely, there’s likely a hose going from the operator cab to the portapotty. As for the other, it’s either a long hike or more likely they plan their meals verrry carefully 😆

This actually looks good, and I'd be fine with it if it were open to the public.

I assume there will be some kind of signage in front indicating it is the Sherwin Williams World Headquarters.

Does the SW (un)welcome center even go, stylewise, with the tower?

Pubic Square has become a cool jumble of arcitectural styles, from terra cotta to modern glass, to mid century, to grey stone, to red or white brick brick, to shades of granite.  Good news: no more empty lots around the perimeter.

Sohio/BP/Huntington lobby has been open to the public for decades - and virtually no one goes there. Do we need more public access space?

I was wondering about that myself.  It looks like something from the 60s or 70s and appears totally unrelated to the tower.

Yes. A building on Public Square should have public access.

Hey! I eat lunch there like once a month. It's actually pretty nice to go into big buildings for a mixup - Key's lobby is pretty nice to relax in too.

Playing into the shack debate: if the tower were built on that lot PS would be way too closed in and Tower City would've been boxed out unnecessarily. Just my musings, don't shoot the messenger!

Speaking of lunch, I'll try and wander up to the library view later to get some snaps.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for it.  But I don't think we should be forcing space that we'd all like to see that in reality won't be utilized.  It's hardly like the existing retail space on the square is busting at the seems.  Why add more competition that hurts what's already in place?

Back when the Flats East Bank office building was under construction, there was a news story about the crane operator. In regards to the question above, the operator climbed the ladder everyday with two milk jugs with filled with water and then descended the ladder after work with the same jugs filled with a different liquid.

Friday update.

No, we don't. You can go into 200 Public Square's atrium, the first floor of Key tower, the Old Stone Church, the Fahrenheit restaurant, a casino and a whole shopping mall and rail station. We do not.

Wow @GISguy!   Symmetry holds!

Nice glass!

How soon until the next crane jump?  Looks like it might be soon.

Beautiful glass, by the way. 🪟👍🏼

My wife took this really cool shot the other day while I was giving a narrated historical walking tour of downtown to a group of English-speaking refugees (the day before I gave a bus tour to about 25 newly arrived Ukrainian refugees with an interpreter). Yep, I'll probably use this photo on the blog at some point. I had to remove the streetlight from the upper-right corner, but other than that, it's untouched.

Lovely view from TRUSS at INTRO for last night's G2H2 event! SW needs to grow a bit more taller than it currently is for this view to show much. 😉
