Some more views, including a handful of funky angles (sorry for the weird colors in those, they were through the car's glass roof).

Another new skyline shot co-starring  SW - posted on JonesDrones IG.

Our downtown is split between height or density, no in between lol. Great shot though.

When does that last smokestack come down?

On a 2 dimensional basis, height is density.

On a 3-D basis, height provides the advantages of density while alleviating the discomfort and drawbacks.

NYC realized this a century ago, requiring setbacks beginning in 1916.

There are going to be site & building tours later this month for employees. Not sure how detailed the tours will be but we should have some updates on the interior finishes and progress.

i've noticed the drop-ceilings have been installed on some of the lower floors.  maybe they have a demo floor ready

I noticed that the frame for the bridge to the garage is up.  I hadn't seen it before.

A couple photos from West 6th Street and the R&R HOF on a very sunny Tuesday afternoon.
Gotta love the density of the skyline from the lakefront…

Two spires playing peek-a-boo!

@ArtMasterCLE  Hey, ArtMasterCLE revealed Cleveland already had one of these buildings!  Does that ice machine look a little like a Paint Museum (or whatever they're calling it)?

^If you know your nautical flags, you'll know that spells Cleveland.

Here's a nice angle from Fulton/I 71

^^I didn't understand  @chrino21's post at first.  Upon taking a closer look, I think their intent is to make an analogy between this structure on the the pier and the new S-W tower.  The rooflines have similarities.  Going further, they make a second analogy between the pictured ice machine and the Paint Museum (S-W project).

Or not.

some interior views!

Still remarkable to think how our skyline  has so greatly improved over the last year by this one mega project. Another great JonesDrones photo off Instagram from a couple days ago.

And to think, there could very well

be a 2nd HQ tower of formidable height added to this picture in just a few short years. (And I’m wondering about how  that “skyline-changing” residential -hotel project might fit into this picture! 😉

And let’s get that AT&T Building redeveloped and lit up- it’s a potential gem. But I digress….

Bumping up this comment. I imagine the answer to my question above is not yet,  but also I was interested in hearing if SW is applying antireflective window treatments to the lower floors to reduce bird strikes?

They did discuss this during initial planning meetings it would be out there on YouTube

Sunset colors as seen from the Harp. The lights near the base are headlights on the Main Avenue Bridge. (Sorry for low resolution from Harp's window glass and phone zoom.)

Wanted to take a pic coming down Kinsman from ~93rd but biking that section isn't the most chill, so if someone decides to go to the McDonalds with the best view, snap a pic! It's a really nice angle of the downtown.

It's gonna be a spring of beautiful city views

From Friday, I love how the city reveals itself in this vista as you walk towards Franklin Circle.

That dude in the Porsche was probably all giddy, thinking you were taking a picture of his car! If he only knew...

I'm looking forward to the day when that view of downtown is no longer possible.

^ Totally OT, but it’s hard to overstate the impact of The Young Ones on UK culture in the early 80s. It’s all we talked about at school and our parents were generally horrified that we found it entertaining. (Which was the whole point)

The seesaw top looks great today.

To me, this building looks so much like two paintbrushes, that it could almost be considered more Ohio "novelty architecture".  Kinda like:

I can’t wait to see how they try to cram more parking and another tower on that site as an afterthought.

Afterthought?  The plan was and always has been to add a second tower to this site to accommodate growth and potentially vendors.  They even presented massings to the Planning Commission years ago.  The base for the 2nd tower could easily accommodate more parking.  I would say that showed unusual forethought.

2 hours ago, CLEmuppet said:

Even the space around it will be difficult to develop.

They left about 75' at the street to surround the parking garage with.  That is the perfect dimension for residential or hotel over retail.

Folks, we all know what they say about opinions so let’s keep it on topic with actual construction updates. As someone mentioned, the site plan’s  merits or lack thereof, have been exhaustively discussed upthread and nothing posted recently is bringing anything new or profound to the conversation.

As the Admins and Mods have always said - if there’s a tangential discussion that starts taking things off topic, anyone is welcome to create their own thread specific to that. It’s not the issue of one or two off topic posts, it’s the inevitable pile on that follows and that’s usually when we have to dole out suspensions, etc.

We’re more than happy to facilitate a separate thread for discussing architecture of built (or in the case of SW, almost finished) structures. The forum over at skyscraperpage.com has a thread just for those discussions.

With that, if people truly feel like the removal of a post is unjustified, the best approach is to send a PM. Keeping in mind the Admins and Mods aren’t compensated for their time and effort to keep this place going for 20+ years. Having a disrespectful attitude from the get go, with someone you don’t know, who might be dealing with issues far more deep than a few words posted on a forum - probably not going to do much to win people over.

If it’s too much to ask forumers to be respectful, there’s always the option to create their own forum, we wish them the best.

*I should add - there are plenty of times we’ve been in agreement with a post (or partial agreement) but because of the derailment potential, it unfortunately has to go.

The Public Square and The Mall gaps don't help creating density.

Nor do the numerous surface parking lots.

From this afternoon. ..
I’m really anxious to see the glass on the crown completed so we can see the full impact of the tower from pedestrian level and on the skyline.

Absolutely but the parking lots can and will, hopefully, be developed to create high rise density west of Public Square. Would be nice if the SWHQ II tower includes an add-on hotel akin to, for example, Philly's Comcast Technology Center with a 300' or so height-boost Four Seasons Hotel.  SWHQ II maybe 450'-500' with an add on 250'-300' lux hotel (ie a Loews/Four Seasons).

I actually sat on the right (well, left, that is ...) side of the plane today — and was treated to some lovely SW and downtown views. Here are four of them; several more in the City Photos / Random Photos thread. 😍🛬🏙️

These photos are great! My one wish was that the inset sections of glass were a slightly darker tint so at night the tower still had its monolithic nature broken up . That feature gets lost in the evening views without its proposed lighting turned on. Hopefully the night lighting helps to define this feature. I used jonesdronescle provided by @CleveFan to show the completed tower with the proposed lighting crown and vertical feature

I know the new HQ isn’t set up to do this kind of display, but maybe a little insight into how they’re planning to present the brand to the world and maybe use the external lighting.
