Found this photo from last year in my photo library.  Maybe this will give us a good idea of what it will look like!  Pretty outstanding, if you ask me! ♥️  Now all we need is that yacht in the forground and “Superman” flying through the buildings!  LOL

Don't forget the crown will also be lit too. If i remember, it was a bit of a last minute design addition so there's hardly any renderings

Also the lights won't just be white. I remember a presentation showing some mockups of different color schemes!

They actually updated this graphic recently with some requested alternate design!! I have the sneak peak:

P.S. Go Birds 🦅

I've been curious for a while - since those colored lights are in or near the recessed strip, will they NOT be visible from an angle (like from Progressive Field or the southwest)?  If that's the case, it would be a shame, though I guess they'd "appear" as you moved past the building.  Just wonderin'...

Maybe just my opinion, but I think the SW tower does a great job uniting the skyline.  It could be that it just fills a gap, but my thinking is that because it is a bit shorter than the big 3, it helps bridge the gap between our other skyscrapers and the big 3, leading to a more

cohesive skyline

The skyline does look more balanced from the south as there is now a tower west of the big 3.

love this view. It's the best example of showing off how many midrises we have

Am I the only person who is underwhelmed by the lighting design?  I hope the renderings are the issue and the real thing will be much more dramatic.

I see what you’re saying, @Sapientone. Ialways assumed it was the fault of the renderings, in terms of the dimness of the lights. However, we should also consider that the SHW logo will be backlighted against the crown, so lighting of the crown must be subdued enough to allow for maximum brand recognition. I think seeing it live will be a far more impactful experience than these renderings.

How are flags changed out on the TT Flagpole?  Obviously off topic.... but i was uncertain where best to put this question.  Is there magic involved? 🤔

Don't know, but it is probably done by people not bothered by heights.

There is a little hatch and terrace they step out onto.

Check it out:

For Christ sake, Bruce! Take the gum out of your mouth before you make a video tape!

Thanks for sharing video @Cleburger, but surprised there wasn't more explanation or camera views up towards the flags and skyward.  Clearly, there isn't much space on that platform for filming.  Maybe the videographer was scared out of his wits and he forgot to narrate. 😬

That, looks like an awful place to work. (Pause at 24 seconds). With work from home being more and more common/popular you'd think they'd put more effort into not making cubicle hell.

Landmark is quite the cube farm... at least here, it looks like there are less internal spaces that aren't within view of a window.  When I was there, I was in a very internal location and I walked often so I could glimpse outside from time to time.

Hopefully, the flag never gets tangled up, otherwise he would have to shimmy up the flagpole to free it.

I believe the elevator only goes to the observation deck on the 42nd floor, so it is necessary to ascend several spiral staircases to get to the top. It would have been nice to see some of that also.

You are correct, there are small spiral staircases.  I was up there during an inspection for the fire department, it was an awesome view!

You must not have see what it's currently like inside the Landmark building. There are numerous office areas in the building where you have no visable line of sight outside. It can be very dark and just drab looking overall.

Sounds like it may not be a good candidate for residential conversion.

Guilty as charged! I've never been inside the landmark building, only admired it from outside. I'm fully willing to believe it's an awful setup. That said, being better than Sherwin Williams current headquarters doesn't make the new setup a good work environment.

As an aside, I was somewhat hopeful that the increased popularity of work from home would finally kill cubicle culture. What employee wants to come in to the office so they can sit in a cubicle all day? Alas, cubicles remain, and unfortunately aren't going anywhere. There are better and worse cubicles though, and those looked to be on the lower end of that scale (points for the standing desks though).

At the end of the day, this is just my opinion from a quick screenshot, so take it with a massive grain of salt. Hopefully it ends up being great!

I'm having the same thought, and it's worrying because I was looking forward to that conversion. Maybe they can do something creative with the interior space. Residential amenity, co-working space, idk.

Thought you guys might appreciate this slideshow I made...

Worse than just the continuation of cubicles, now many companies have people sharing cubicles based on what day(s) of the week they're in the office.  So less personalization of the cubicles.

you have got to be kidding me? my spouse would kill for that. to go back to cubes. open floor plan offices are utter hell. noisy, distracting, no way to get any work done. she would like to go in more often, it’s too bad. but luckily she can wfh whenever she wants.

Open floor plans offices are worse than hell, totally agree. Cubes are bad precisely because they are halfway to an open office floor plan. If you were designing an office from scratch with the goal of convincing people accustomed to working from home to come in to the office every day, would you give people three half walls worth of privacy for their personal workspace?

Even with cubes, they make tall walled ones, and you can add the fourth wall leaving only an entryway to give a bit more of an illusion of privacy. Maybe it's not as bad as that screenshot made it seem, but if I saw that cubicle area I'd reconsider working there.

depends on the work of course, but typically you don’t need full privacy, just some privacy, which aesthetically pleasing or not cubes do well.

the best response to wfh will be to offer a widest variety of all possible workspaces — open plan, cubes, commons, standing, closed offices, conference areas, exercise area, outdoor space and whatever.

I work in a bullpen - 4 mid-height cubes in one setting (about the same height that's shown). It's really not that bad. Full size cube walls might offer some privacy BUT also limits your access to sunlight which IMO is much worse and it feels cavernous. I'd assume most people will also be wearing headphones to block out distractions.

SHW isn't WFH friendly, and most places that are WFH friendly are hybrid anyways - full on WFH positions are pretty rare and limited to very specific industries.

All this said, the styling of these is a bit too open for my taste. FWIW those also look like standing desks which is a nice little addition.

I don't think people feel they have to wear headphones, I think it's pretty standard in a lot of positions where you're in your own zone all day (like GIS/programming/etc.).

Honestly with how strict SHW has been with WFH, I'd imagine they have restrictions on wearing headphones - I've heard of some companies requiring you to like leave an earbud out, which I wouldn't put past their leadership.

Not sure where you get the idea that SW isn't WFH friendly. Yes there is a company hybrid schedule but most department managers and directors are very flexible if something comes up where you need to WFH for a day. I've never seen it denied.

Happy to be corrected, the saga of them building a skyscraper when Progressive is selling off real estate and CEO's opinion of return to office that's been covered in here is where I'm coming from. Glad to hear it isn't as bad as its been made out to be.

Sidenote, I was talking to my bus driver last night and he made it sound like there was some debris coming from the worksite during yesterday's storm (he mentioned their parking deck), curious if there was any worthwhile damage caused by the storm.

FWIW I am a new hire at SW and my team is entirely WFH. That is rare for the company, however. When I join a new team I will be hybrid, 3 days in the office, which is very common at SW.

I am very excited about the new building layout. It suits me just fine.

Crain's also reported that glass and other debris was falling from the Rockefeller building.

Nice @MayDay   You're able to see a lot of examples of more modern architecture mixing with the old in these views.  SW makes a WORLD of difference for our skyline.  (Just Imagine what

a sky-line changing new hotel might add!)

I *think* the exterior elevator has been removed.

SW.08.13.24.jpg

One thing that I noticed while driving into the city last Saturday night is that with this Tower you can now see the reflection of the terminal tower, which is normally obscured by the 200 Public Square building while driving in on I-90 from the East. Some photos in this thread have shown other reflections, but I think that's a cool "feature" of this new all glass tower, the reflections it creates.

How do they install the remaining windows with no crane or elevator? Is there a winch on top of the building?

They’re installed from the inside. One of the elevators inside is probably operational by now.
