September 5, 2024Sep 5 Snagged a quick shot from where I was Tuesday night after shooting an engagement session :)
September 5, 2024Sep 5 @ASPhotoman thank you for posting a nice picture so we don't have to see that shot of 200 PS through a filthy window at the top of the page any more!
September 5, 2024Sep 5 I was also on Voinovich Park over the weekend for the air show. Looks like part of the boat dock was damaged by that huge storm in August, rendering it unusable. Hoping there's a plan to fix it. Anyways, back to SW...

September 7, 2024Sep 7 A couple slightly different views that include our newest tower from Labor Day weekend..
September 7, 2024Sep 7 I love my city but at the risk of getting trashed on this forum l'll say something that people won't like. The emperor has no clothes. Despite adding buildings at a slow but steady clip our skyline always looks odd. It doesn't seem to jell. Other cities like Cincinnati or Kansas City with shorter buildings seem more cohesive. And my favorire view where l think our skyline actually looks pretty cool (heading east on the Main Avenue bridge) is never shown in any pics of downtown. Too bad that view is only accessible by a moving car. Oh well, guess l'm just feeling a little grumpy this morning.

Granted, none of towers over 500' match, but the shorter ones do.
September 7, 2024Sep 7 Unique isn't necessarily good. The taller ones are great but none of them seem to compliment each other while the shorter ones from a distance all seem to be versions of the same - monontonce. The view from Edgewater IS pretty nice though but it's just our luck that when we do add a taller tower it happens to cover up a previous one. None of this is a big deal. It's just a little game l play. Whenever l visit other cities l'm always critiquing the interplay of their urban spaces. I'm actually more interested in how buildings relate to their surroundings than how the building itself looks.

The reason for that is all the taller towers are grouped on one side and most of the shorter ones are on the other, so it creates an imbalance, which translates to the weirdness you describe. If there were one or two 600 footers build along East 9th or East 12th, it would help to balance things out. Same if there were sever 350-400 footers built west of West 6th.

September 7, 2024Sep 7 Another thing that kind of irks me is that Key Tower dwarfs all the other towers. That's why I was hoping SHW would have gone taller, maybe 750-800' which would have given the skyline a little more balance. Oh well. I guess we'll have to wait for that skyline changing development.
September 8, 2024Sep 8 Guess it's easier to be grumpy than be the change we want to see 😉 Plenty of shots from incredibly talented folks on Instagram and other channels from the Main Avenue Bridge if you do a little digging, or create your own with a drone, or from the passenger seat ... just sayin' 📸 clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

You're right, I've said the same thing, it is unbalanced and due to the spacing that Public Square has makes the buildings along the regular grid look forced. 200 PS being placed closer to the natural street grid causes Sherwin Williams which is placed similarly to block it. Also our Public Square isn't necessarily centralized Downtown it is placed at the point where East meets West and since majority of our Downtown is located East, the building on Public Square look so distant from the rest. Their substantial size doesn't help this. This meme I made describes the Downtown Skyline even after the Sherwin Williams addition.
September 8, 2024Sep 8 To ME the best skyline view in town is on 480, crossing the Valley View bridge, especially going west (no obstructions). The full 1.5 miles of the entire skyline is laid out, left to right, from the Stokes Courthouse to the Lumen/Fenn Tower - with the stairstepping up and down of Public Square's 4 towers perfectly spaced - and the lower, denser eastern side really jumbled together and making an impact. Downtown looks significantly larger and more impressive than reality from this angle - truly "big city" - especially due the still very tall for the US Key Tower - and I can never not look over on this drive. The new S-W tower adds greatly to the balancing of this view.

September 8, 2024Sep 8 I'm pretty critical of Cleveland in a number of ways, but I don't think the skyline is any worse than other mid-sized cities. It has good views and bad, like every city. From the swing bridge, the shoreway bridge, Ohio City/WSM, Tremont, the Inner Harbor, Lakewood, even coming in on the east shoreway as you pass Burke, they're all pretty interesting alignments from a design element standpoint. Plus, like any bigger city, each one looks quite different from the other.

I think one thing that hurts Cleveland is that some of the worst skyline views are basically pressed upon people, like driving west on 90 towards the city, where most of the better skyline views generally require a bit more effort to get through (lake, river, etc). Contrast this with Cincinnati where transiting through it on the highway gets you some of the best views of the skyline. For better or worse people transitting through Cleveland don't get great skyline views.

The only problem is you can only view it for a few seconds because you are in a moving vehicle. Other cities also have their best view but l bet you can enjoy them at your leisure while here at home we don't have that luxury. It kind of goes along with my thought that despite having some great looking buildings they actually don't look all that great together. It just works out that way - like our best view can only be seen for a few seconds. Unfortunate.
September 8, 2024Sep 8 Really like this angle with the Hilton looking like a little brother. Oh and the reflection on the justice center almost makes it look nice.
September 8, 2024Sep 8 This is undoubtedly the best most balanced view of Downtown. Has there been a picture taken from this angle with the new buildings ?

September 10, 2024Sep 10 I tried to get an updated picture of this shot the day I got my drone, but was immediately hit with alerts to land it in 90 seconds lol and being an amateur I panicked and did as I was told. But I love seeing this view almost every day (top of State Rd. hill in Parma) Hopefully someone is willing to give it a try? photo by ProudDad72 Photography on FB

The view up 77 is okay. 90E has a great view of downtown as Key Tower rises behind Terminal, and that's a main west to east route across the northern part of the nation. September 10, 2024Sep 10 I personally am a fan of the view from the near northeast neighborhoods near the lakefront if you can get up high. The roof of the Ariel International Center is really cool or even the view from the fishing area at Gordon Park. I always feel like the city looks bigger and more impressI’ve from there.
September 10, 2024Sep 10 When I was stationed on the East side, I found the skyline at night looked great from the E93/Woodhill area...the Eastbound shoreway view is pretty darn good too!
