wonder if their January earning report and full move into #1 will tip the scales sooner or delay tower #2.

Had a great time last night. Checked out the Museum of Illusions. Very cool.

I was wondering when/if that project was happening- anyone know its status?

^ l read somewhere on this forum that it was still a go. As a huge fan of using light to enliven a city l can't wait to see what it will look like.

And not to get too far in front of my skis but if it's as successful as we hope maybe it will kickstart another idea, namely lighting our bridges. I still say, if done correctly it has the potential of being a tourist draw and add more streetlife to downtown.

I was just thinking about this the other day. The odd layout of Cleveland's skyline combined with the city having a fanning street grid vs. a traditional grid layout makes it difficult to see new builds unless it's a skyscraper. You can't see the Beacon or Skyline 776 from this angle, you have to take shots from specific streets to really see the change.

I've been checking on this thread every now and then since the groundbreaking. Bring on the lighting! I love how Cleveland does lighting in tandem with the buildings downtown.❤️

Like our street grid is so odd that Sherwin Williams on West 3rd and Superior is partially blocked by The Lumen on 17th and Euclid.

Hi  @MyPhoneDead.... its just a happy coincidence of position of the photographer @MayDay in a similar manner that a stopped clock is correct twice a day.  This blocking effect should happen exactly twice as you traverse along a large 360 deg circle around downtown.   Or MayDay is prescient and planned this all out back in 2009 ! 😉

With the planned high rises on the Riverfront the first picture will be EXTREMELY dense in the future. @Geowizical is it possible to do a mock of what the city would look like with the planned Riverfront buildings?

Sounds like the majority of the work right now are inspections and going through all the finer points. Move in schedules are expected to be shared sometime in late 1Q.

Sherwin-Williams to fix fire protection problem on new headquarters

The company told Cleveland recently that the anti-fire coating on some of the skyscraper’s steel beams is too thin. Sherwin-Williams would not say if the issue will further delay the opening of the taxpayer-supported building.

I can try! but I don't know when I'll get to it - I'm spread thin at the moment trying to wrap up a big project I wanna share by the end of the month 😯

I am continuing my streak of only adding anything to this forum by either arguing with negative Nancies, or posting even more photos of the Sherwin-Williams HQ!

Great perspective to see all the new towers that will be rising in the coming years to fill in the remaining surface lots.

Love @Boaty McBoatface’s photo - this shot shatters the old image of Cleveland as a tired old ugly industrial city - especially with that vast lakefront perspective- obviously SW filled a gigantic gap - now, someone build a new skyline changing tower - or two or three!

In @Boaty McBoatface 's first photo it's interesting to see the shapes of cascading shadows:  Courthouse tower reflected in SHW, Terminal Tower shadow on 200 PS, SHW shadow on Key Tower.

Hoping it's good news about HQ tower 2, and not "Sherwin Williams to start surfacing northwest parking lots starting next month". 🤣

Has anyone heard anything on when the lighting might be coming online? I think about it when I'm heading into the city how much it would add.

I try to check almost every night. I've been hoping to see them even just testing the lights, but nothing yet :(

I would sign this petition so fast.

I'm excited for it as well. It would give the building so much life at night. It currently looks like a massive, eerie fortress in the evenings.

I know they received approval with the lighting addition, but are they obligated to do it? I ask because SW first design of the tower didn't have the lights and a little part of me is afraid that they're going to be conservative and boring and not do it.

Also need varying degrees of bombs - bunker buster, hand grenade, firecracker.  A bad bomb would probably be a stink bomb. 😀

Hope also for any good news. No more bad news since the Cliffs news this week. Maybe Sherwin Williams is buying PPG and moving their Hq from Pittsburgh to Cleveland- they owe us one 😂

Actually, if you also include PNC (National City Bank), Howard Hanna (Smythe Cramer), and Giant Eagle (Rini-Rego) they owe us 4.

Sherwin-Williams HQ grand opening set, tower isn’t
By Ken Prendergast / January 17, 2025

Although the grand-opening ceremony for the new Sherwin-Williams headquarters tower has been set, repairs to already finished areas are pushing occupancy of the tower months farther into the future. Some employees told NEOtrans they don’t expect to migrate over to the new tower until next fall.

Top Ten Reasons for SW Tower construction redo.

1O.  Building contractor furnished interior using Benjamin Moore paints.

....

Carry-on esteemed UO community.

Yikes, the CM and engineering teams are likely sweating buckets right now, especially if Sherwin had a set completion date with damages for delays past that. The fireproofing needing to be reworked was a bad enough look for them, but full delays in moving is even worse.

Stuff does happen, especially on large projects, but that can't be a great place to be in for them. I had heard rumors that Sherwin just wasn't ready to move everyone, but not that the building wouldn't be ready.

And wasn't there an issue with the parking garage?

Everyone received word that the move in schedule would be posted no later than March. It was also known that groups would be given up to 6 months of notice prior to the move. So if we follow the math, that means we could see the move start to happen sometime around September at the latest. I've also heard there would be waves in the move and each wave lasting approximately 2 weeks.

Original occupancy was suppose to happen in 4Q 2024, so construction timeline is right around a full 10-12 months behind schedule.

I don't get how this wasn't caught by inspectors months ago. Wouldn't fire proofing need to be approved before walls are closed up, like other MEP systems?

My 11-year-old boy says "womp womp."

It boggles my mind why a grand opening for a new office tower and complex needs to do an off-site event that is costing a large amount of money in Public Square.  Why the rush to do this ceremony if the building is far from completion and occupancy?

If you know any inspectors or have gone through the inspecting process you'll understand that it can be quite subjective. One will zero in on something that other's miss but then miss something that other's will cite.

I would imagine that an inspection on any project the size of the SHW building would be more variable than you would think, leading to errors which are usually just annoying but in some cases like this can be very upsetting.

You're giving me flashbacks with this comment. It's so, so true. The code isn't as black and white as you might think it is. Discussions on what the code actually means can be a large part of the process and can lead to delays through no fault of the construction or A&E teams.

Maybe they will be announcing plans for SHW 2 at the event. 😉
