When is that going to happen?

Hopefully soon. They had mentioned either December or January.

I lived during summer months in Pekin I'm 20 minutes from Peoria

and winter in Sun City West As.  In Peoria Illinois they moved Caterpillar Headquarters to downtown Chicago because the wife's did not like the small city of Peoria.  That was the real reason they left Peoria after almost 100 year. That how stupid a reason to leave a city after all that time being there.  So you never know what a company will do one way or anther.  I do hope they stay in Cleveland but you never know

It appears that some type of holes have been drilled into the brand new blacktop just finished a few weeks ago on the Jacobs lot. The holes were not there yesterday, but I missed seeing what equipment was being used.

Sherwin-Williams files permits with Cleveland prior to acquiring downtown land

Twelve certificates of disclosure were filed Nov. 15 with the City of Cleveland's Building Department by an unidentified buyer seeking to acquire all 5.6 acres of Weston Group-owned properties in the "Superblock" west of downtown Cleveland's Public Square.

Although the buyer wasn't identified, a source earlier this week notified NEOtrans in advance that Sherwin-Williams (SHW) would be filing the certificates as part of its efforts to secure the downtown properties.

Another dozen or so parcels in the superblock haven't been filed for yet so we may see this continue on Monday and include the Jacobs lot. And still waiting to see if the ex-stark hq will be included.

Ken, here’s confirmation of drilling holes

This is very interesting to me.

@KJP, have your sources ever indicated whether SHW intends to buy/use every superblock lot as opposed to just some?

As far as I know, they intend to use the whole thing. The drilling locations, which were all over the lots, seem to bear this out.

KJP have your sources mentioned whether SHW is interested in the Former Stark/Real Life building.

I can't imagine Real life having a purpose for this building other than selling to SHW. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Should we now call Cleveland the Painting Capital of the World?

I believe we could claim that. I believe SHW after Valspar acquisition has the largest revenue stream. Also, Glidden paints was founded in Cleveland, though now is a PPG company. I believe PPG’s presence here helps to attract industry talent as well to CLE. They’re expanding here too. That’ll help to continue to make Cleveland a hotbed for R&D talent with that competition.

Parma is home to auto paint manufacturer Eastwood, home to R/C paint company Parma/PSE and was home to hobby paint manufacturer Pactra before it was acquired by Testors.

^ And Lubrizol, Polyone, Omnova and a bunch of other companies in the area are all major polymer/ chemical technology suppliers to the paint companies.

As well as Oatey. While not a paint company, they’re  a leading plumbing and chemical manufacturer on the global scale. Based here. With R&D and manufacturing facilities In the same neighborhood as PPG. They recently built a new headquarters here by the airport.

There's also RPM

And AkzoNobel and BASF have offices here. We’ve probably more inorganic chemist talent in NEO than the entire sunbelt combined.

Oh. And Ferro for pigments and color solutions...

Also Energizer Battery has an R&D hub in Westlake.

I've been in the paint and coatings industry for 26 years......Its always been know as the Paint capital of america.  Pretty high up on the plastics list also.

I am so glad the County came to their senses and decided not to interfere with SW decision to build on the Jacobs/Weston parcels.  That would have been the final straw for me.

We're also home to research facilities for just about every medical imaging device firm. Toshiba was one of the big ones and its imaging biz was recently bought by Canon which wants to greatly expand its medical imaging business.

And after trading a few late-night text messages, I added the following paragraph to yesterday's article....

___________

Ironically, commercial firms don't have to file certificates of disclosure before buying a property, a Cleveland official said. Plus, there won't be much information for the buyer to get since there are no buildings on the properties and the parking lots won't remain as parking. Lastly, the buyer could have just sent a zoning letter to the city for free rather than pay $60 per certificate filed and gotten more information from the city.

It was kind of funny years ago when some "activists" were protesting the use of PVC at the new Target store  about three blocks from our plant, where we were making it in huge quantities for automotive applications.  ?

Plus the internal cost of doing that sort of paperwork.   Unless someone in the corp misunderstood the regulations it is very odd.

I would be "coatings", not paint.  Although SW is seen as a residential paint provider, they are SO MUCH more.

I am not doubting the information that our boy @KJP has provided, but for ME something is off.

There is.....its not anything tangible but there is in the way SW is allowing this to play out. You would think that with the amount of news being circulated, they would at least say they are staying in NE Ohio. I dont really doubt that they are but you are right about it beiing "off"

Maybe it's because not all of the stars are perfectly aligned.

1.  New Jacob's core samples were just obtained yesterday

2.  As they did for Weston, no paperwork was filed with the City for the Jacobs lot

3.  Would this project be eligible for TMUD?  If so, its fate is still pending and could impact project financing

4.  Despite what's happening on PS/Weston, it sounds like Bedrock is still making a strong pitch

While there are still some unknowns, things appear to be moving favorably.

Kinda looks like things are still in play and this is a bit of poker being played by SW, Bedrock, and the Westin/Jacobs site.

Picker (now Philips) has always been a big player with the big ticket stuff as well.
