Dang, I wanna learn more about test pit 17. What's that?

Nice. It seems SHW is maybe trying to get out ahead of this looming "hyper-inflation".

TP17 appears to be about 30 feet west of West 3rd Street and about 30 feet north of Superior. Here's a couple more images from the geotechnical report that might be of interest.

This is what's below the Jacobs Lot....

And here are sketches of what was found in TP17

that looks like the kind of metal pilings they use to shore up the foundation perimeter. is that correct?

Yep. Wide flanges, the H shape beams where the flanges, the shorter top and bottom portion, don't taper, are most commonly used for site work, retaining, etc. These are almost definitely to form a perimeter wall to begin digging out the site.

Check the site. I've posted three articles in the last two days and have at least one more to write. That's probably going to have wait until tomorrow.

Seems they updated the schematic submission presentation on their website with some more details and new model views..

I hope those trees end up being as big as the scale model suggests.

When these kind of updated renderings are made public, do they usually include signage and/or lighting on the building or would that be something that comes later?

hmm, ok good -- the glass seems to be promoted as quality -- and that is a very good thing.

i hope folks will be sure to check it out where ever they display the initial panel samples, or at least on site before they are installed -- and take pics for us.

just the glass itself can really make or break something major like this i tell ya!

More permit applications are coming through B&H's portal. This time they're for the Pavilion on the Jacobs Lot as well as the Tower. Both applications say: "The phase of this work is limited to erosion and sediment controls, limited site demolition, and general excavation."

I've been waiting for this post for 30 years!

This time it’s going down for real.

Love the design or hate it - and we’ve  got opinions on both sides - it feels damn good to know we’re actually building a new, true skyscraper. The Cleveland skyline is about to change in an undeniable way for all to see.

SW has made a huge commitment to its home town.   Their 616’  tower will be a symbol of a city that is still vital - and one that has great expectations for itself once again.

But where will all the suburbanites park now?!

I remember when the buildings were demolished!

Finally, new construction in the heart of the city.  There is feeling of a "new" Cleveland emerging!  Today we start the molting process.

I was in highschool or maybe my freshman year of CSU.  I used to walk over to the square to  check on the progress, then also the progress of the then "Society Center" rising above public square.  It was a big deal that it was going to be taller than Terminal Tower.

Me too! I can remember walking toward the front doors of Terminal Tower onto Public Square, and I'd stop in such a way that I could only see the finished facade portion of Society Center through the glass — and imagine what it'd be like to have the whole thing completed. 😄

omg i have to pinch myself to make sure i am still alive and this isn't a cruel dream!  😂

The Lot Split and Consolidation Plat came through the county on 10/25. Within this or next week, the GIS should reflect the one parcel...and we all know it isn't official until it's in the GIS 😆

Prep yourself for when the rare Cleveland Square burrowing horned toad is discovered during the digging and the whole project gets shutdown.

In the late 80's to maybe 1990 or so i hadn't been to Cleveland in 2 or three years.  I flew in one Saturday morning and took the rapid downtown to my hotel.  When i got off at tower city i couldnt beleive what i was seeing.  On top of that a Neiman Marcus was comming...then i opened the door and looked up across the square to the almost completed society bank tower.  I was in awe.  I honestly didnt know that all of this was taking place.  It was amazing

Yes, it was amazing.  A lot was happening in downtown Cleveland in the late 80s to mid 90s.  Galleria and Tower City opened.  Society/Key Tower was built (the tallest building between NY and Chicago at the time).  Jacobs Field and Gund Arena were built (resulting in the Cavs, hockey and other arena events coming back downtown).  Several new hotels opened. The Flats and Warehouse District were booming.  The Playhouse Square theaters were coming back to life.  The RTA Waterfront line opened.  Cleveland was on a roll.  And there could have been another tall tower built during that timeframe, but the Society-AmeriTrust merger killed it. Let's hope the Sherwin-Williams project will get things going again downtown.

Yea i also saw the Galleria for the first time that weekend.  Had a lunch there.  It was such a wonderful weekend seeing all of that at one time. And most of it was in full or almost full operation.  There were crowds downtown again.  People out and about - there for the sake of being there.  Well this is all off-topic.

735' -- from developer hines website:

Hines and Ivanhoé Cambridge are developing Texas Tower, a new 47-story, one-million-square-foot office tower on the 800 block of Texas Avenue (the former site of the Houston Chronicle).

The building will become an architectural presence in Houston’s skyline, and offer a radical new approach to lobby and common-area design and activation. Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli, the project will be built to the highest standards that Hines has ever developed in Houston, including LEED® Platinum, WiredScore and WELL™ Building Standards.

Texas Tower will feature unprecedented amenities in the vertically integrated campus, including: a dramatic lobby with cues from the hospitality sector; multiple food and beverage offerings; abundant spaces for networking; a full-service conference facility; public gardens on level 12; and a high-performance fitness center. Ten-foot, full-height windows will allow for an abundance of natural light across the 30,000-square-foot floor plates and a sophisticated underfloor HVAC system will put comfort choices in the hands of occupants. Protruding, cantilevered bays on each face of the floorplate project away from the building providing opportunities for dramatic internal stairs, atriums and communal spaces, as well as potential access to fresh air and outdoor green space.

The tower will be placed diagonally on the site resulting in unique, more interesting view angles and a powerful civic presence. The unique site is at the confluence of the CBD, the Theatre District and the Historic District—Houston’s ‘main and main’ location for a lively place to live, work and play. The building’s desirable location leverages the myriad of restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, as well as an exploding residential population.

Texas Tower is scheduled to open in late 2021.

Houston and Dallas have two of the highest vacancy rates, surprised they built this.

It's wild to me how many skyscrapers there are in Dallas and especially Houston and yet in my experience the street life in those two downtowns is dead and sterile.

My one trip to Dallas was in early September. Every time I hit the street, and felt the 102 degree temperature, I went right back into the hotel.

Luckily, my hotel had "Walt Garrison's Cowboy BBQ" as their restaurant, so I could indulge in the local cuisine.
