May 17, 20232 yr Wow, the little pavilion area is coming together! Also, I believe the core got bumped up a floor. And note the difference in the 14th floor, structurally. Edited May 17, 20232 yr by Silent Matt
May 19, 20232 yr Here’s a little idea of what we can expect. The Batman building in Nashville is 617 feet tall SWH will be 616 feet tall. We are in for a treat !

I always saw this building being referred to as Barad-dûr from Lord of the Rings. Just imagine the eye of Sauron on top of that thing.
May 19, 20232 yr The height of the Nashville building includes the two spires. So, the Sherwin Williams building would be as tall as the top of the spires and would look much taller if side by side. The height of this building without the spires is 452'. As an aside, this is why I am not a fan of counting the spires in the height of skyscrapers.

I feel you’re RIGHT-ON and exactly what I was thinking! The SHW building will be much taller overall, and in my opinion a great asset to Cleveland’s skyline! Anybody got anymore photos of the progress on those beautiful windows? I’m having withdrawals!…😂 Edited May 19, 20232 yr by Larry

May 19, 20232 yr Looking good! I recall late '89/early '90 when the site for Society/Key was cleared, and construction began. I so hoped the empty lot of the by then cancelled Ameritrust project site would follow along quickly. I just never imagined Jacobs would sit on it for sooooo long. Or that Cleveland itself would struggle economically for so long that it couldn't get something of significance built on that site. It's been a lifetime, but man it sure feels good to see this finally happen. I can't wait to travel up to The CLE to see it in person. Really appreciate all of the pics.

Yes. I think both buildings would look better if the window trim was black instead of silver. The trim stands out a bit too much.
May 20, 20232 yr More windows and some trench digging! Edit: also, I thought the utilities were running in the gerbil tube? What's the trench for?

May 22, 20232 yr 13 minutes ago, mrnyc said: ugh, paywall. but i think we would all certainly like to hear more about this. 🙀 For two to three weeks, the ceo thought that they were really leaving the city. As other cities were really aggressive with their pitch (e.g. incentives, networking with colleges to create talent pipeline, and covering cost of relocation). Also, mentioned they considered having the tower to include R&D, but they thought the pilot paint plant wouldn't belong in public square.
May 22, 20232 yr ^ The headline is a little hyperbolic. His direct quote is, “There was a two- to three-week period when I thought I was going to leave”. That was before things started to come together locally and he actually praises various local and Ohio entities for being responsive. It certainly doesn’t seem like we snatched SHW back from the brink as they were about to sign with somewhere else. Edit: He’s also almost certainly duty-bound to continue to make it look like Cleveland dodged a bullet. If he said ‘nah, we were never going anywhere’ that wouldn’t play well with a lot of people who were involved in negotiations, both here and elsewhere. My hovercraft is full of eels
May 22, 20232 yr That glass looks pretty darn nice to me! The way it will reflect buildings from around the square is really going to be sweet! 3 hours ago, nokoeeee said: , the ceo … mentioned they considered having the tower to include R&D, but they thought the pilot paint plant wouldn't belong in public square. I don’t know, I think we could’ve sucked it up and made it work even if the tower would’ve had to rival Key Tower in height. 😉 Edited May 22, 20232 yr by CleveFan

May 23, 20232 yr When I was hanging in PS looking towards it I'm kind of glad they set it back. Even if Williams' crab shack is lame it won't overpower the other buildings on its left and right vs the tower. I'd recommend standing in the green space on the square and taking it in and I bet it'll grow on ya too.
May 23, 20232 yr Well l for one definitely wanted R&D in the same block at least. If not that then in the nearby Flats. But holy crap if it came to almost losing SHW...that would just have been too depressing. Yikes!

May 24, 20232 yr @Ray45a. I hope you do not mind that I used your posted photo to add the finished tower look into the skyline
May 24, 20232 yr Author (Putting on old geezer hat) All this new-fangled computer technology sorta takes the fun and anticipation out of wondering what the tower will look like in its natural habitat when it's all done. When the tower is done, will we say "Yeah, I've been seeing that view of the skyline with the completed tower for several years now..."? BTW, gorgeous photo and rendering @Ray45aand @dave2017! I'm with you! That said, looking at this image it feels that S-W will be a tipping point of sorts taking Cleveland's skyline from predominantly "old" to a good mix of old and new. S-W along with youngsters like the Beacon, the Hilton, the Lumen -- and middle agers Key, Skylight, 5th/3rd -- collectively are combining to balance out the old timers e.g., TT, AT&T, Landmark.

I hope you do not mind that I used your posted photo to add the finished tower look into the skyline First off, thanks to @dave2017and @Ray45afor the great rendering. I originally wanted the tower right off P.S., probably like many on the Forum - but this view really shows the new symmetry around the Square beautifully. Obviously, the look will be different depending on where you're viewing from. This may become a more popular perspective of the city in terms of media. Just being a skyline nerd for a moment - My fantasy (but possible) is that we get to see a high tower rising on the Nucleus site within the decade - and at least the beginning of that trumpeted Bedrock Riverfront development (I'm more dubious about the that) it's also very possible that we'll have at least a new 300 foot tower to the immediate left of the main SW Tower in the not-too-distant future. But already - with the new "4th Big" rising fast - our town seems to have a distinctly more "big city" look to it. And at many times of the day, the "blue" of the new SW Tower will probably stand out more, providing a more modern look against the buildings just behind the Terminal Tower. And as @FerrariEnzoshowed us - I also like the way that the position of the tower sort of "opens up" P.S. to feel a little larger while still providing that cozy feeling we haven't had for many years on the unfinished (till now) western side - and I don't think the pavilion with its very low profile will change that. 3 hours ago, FerrariEnzo said: Looking towards a bright future..
