Well.. at least this time it took more than a full day for this thread to go off the rails.

1.  He and his wife are major Cleveland philanthropists

2.  Again, no offense, but downtown Atlanta would not even remotely be considered the location of a second home

Why are we still debating the merit of the new home when it’s been said by multiple people with great sources that they aren’t going anywhere? The home is great news for reasons that people pointed out but regardless that’s not the main reason why people are saying they are staying.

I think what’s interesting is options 3 and 4. Based on what we’ve heard from the Haslam’s, those are pretty ripe contenders for a future stadium. I wonder if S-W and the Browns have been talking about a collab.

Thank you! People with proven sources have said it’s very likely they’re staying and very likely they’re staying in downtown. Why are we burying the lede here people?!

Can we lock this thread again? Lol

If the HQ does end up being a tower of some sort, I hope it has some color! Whether it's the bluish/green of the Lumen and Hilton towers, the dark Bronze/green of Tower at Erieview, or the aluminum of Ernst & Young, I hope it has a different color than all the beige and off-beige buildings Downtown Cleveland is home to.

Htsguy ? My sources are saying... that was just an observation/opinion that not all CEOs live where the headquarters of their companies are.

I can't say too much yet, but look for something really different for Cleveland. I haven't seen renderings but spoken to two people who have. The main building may not beat Key Tower in height, but it might in design. Of course, that's always subject to opinion.

Main building....may not beat Key Tower in height. So, what you're saying is there multiple buildings with at least one very tall, probably at least skyline altering and possibly larger than Key.

I hope it stands out like the three tallest buildings to the left in this pic!

Just as long as it's not red. Lol.

So while we were all fretting about possibly losing S-H they were doing their due diligence (evaluating possible locations) AND at the same time designing their new headquarters? Such that the design will dove-tail seamlessly with the chosen location? Walk and chew gum at the same time as they say. What's interesting to me about  that approach is how can you design a complex without knowing where you're going to build or if you even control the site?

If the above is credible and they ARE building on Jocobs/Westin then S-H already knew where they were going and they already had an agreement to purchase those properties.

At any rate, like most (all?) of us here we thrilled that S-H is staying home and staying downtown.  Now if only we could have kept Eaton and gotten Progressive to build downtown. Oh well. I guess we'll just have to be thankful for S-H and go from there.

Just pluck one of these from the Doha skyline and I’m good.

I just hope they have some great lighting at night. Terminal Tower has set a nice bar locally with that. I'd like to see something that moves and is part of the building itself, instead of just a static display or lighting up the architecture. I've always loved the City of Capitals (second and third towers in the pic) for their light display. The LEDs move so the lights look like water dripping down.

If the SW HQ tower is shorter than Key Tower, I suspect that its design will be somewhat dramatic and iconic.

I have my fantasies too, but before the topic derails again i'd like to share something i've made on mspaint quite a while ago regarding the new SW headquarters. Just for lighting sake I love LED honeycomb, I've seen it used at Ohio State University i believe in one of their Engineering buildings, at night it's just so vibrant and colorful, but also provides a nice relaxing place to settle down and study.

Also, as you can tell I love spires, Let it be so bright you can see it from freaking Canada...

When I first read that headline I got real nervous-like Stan might have some sort of inside information.

Then I read the article and realized it was a puff piece basically stating the obvious which anyone of us on the forum could have written.  Most annoying is Stan's favorite technique of going to industry specialist's who actually have nothing to do with the project (in this instance re-location consultants) to obtain quotes and bolster the article even though he clearly already knew what they are going to say (in fact he could have approached my tenth grade niece and she would have given the same quotes).  At least he made an attempt to get quotes from SHW and community leaders but there was basically nothing there.

If Stan is going to ruin my Sunday morning with a headline like that, he should actually include some news.  Or at least change the headline to something like " As everybody and their mother knows, Cleveland's poor air service is a real negative for Sherwin Williams and Cleveland's other global companies".

By the way I really enjoyed his companion article on Bo Knez.

totally agree - what a misleading headline followed by nothing more than extremely bland speculation that was as insightful as some man-in-the-street interview.

I don't want this thread to be locked again but let me just say this: despite whatever index cited in this piece and used by "experts", there is not one domestic business center of relevance to SHW that is currently underserved by the existing inventory of commercial flights out of KCLE.  And if a direct doesn't currently exist, most business centers in the U.S. are still reachable from KCLE with a maximum of two hops. Same for international.  Two hops max.  I am glad the article mentions this however not until the very end and only after you realize this important fact belies the misleading headline that preceded it.

Akron and Columbus are both home to combined 15-20 legacy Fortune 1000 companies that all presumably seem to make gobs of money for their shareholders while still being able to attract talent year after year. Hopkins has those airports beat in terms of total annual passenger rate and daily non-stop destinations (by multiple carriers) by an objectively large margin.  Again, not saying that Hopkins does not have its issues. But let's please stop pretending that Cleveland Hopkins is Manchester, NH or Buffalo, NY

Please be taller then Key Tower, please be taller!!!

Hopefully the main tower is at least 1,001ft.

Ill never fully understand the obsession with height. Better to have a city filled with midrises throughout like many historic European cities than a small area of supertall buildings and the rest being low density.

Cleveland skyline could use a high rise or 6. That’s why it’s skyline sort of lacks compared to peer midsized cities.

It's the tallest buildings that define a skyline and make it distinctive.

Hard to tell that from most skyline pics ...example of Cincy skyline compared to Cleveland. Not trying to start a skyline debate/war. Just saying a taller building would help fill out Cleveland skyline Abit, that's all.

As much as I would like to see a tower surpass Key in height, I'm kind of liking the idea of a 6 or 7 hundred foot tower, or two flanking Key on the west side. It would help to balance the skyline, which is weighted heavily with the 9th street corridor, with fewer towers to the west of Public Square.

Can someone do a massing illustrating that?

Proportionality is important though.   200 Public Square is only 16 feet shorter than GAT, and taller than anything in Columbus.

And it's the shortest of the triple towers on Public Square by a good margin.

Downtown Cleveland is much more impressive coming from the west, by the way.

LOL okay, five yards for obscure reference.

The song "Kind of a Drag" was a huge hit for the Buckinghams, a Chicago band who claimed to have named themselves after the fountain, but were clearly attempting to sound English.

Sherwin-Williams HQ+R&D will be in downtown Cleveland

Not only will Sherwin-Williams' new headquarters plus research and development facilities be located in downtown Cleveland, but the coatings giant also chose its construction manager, learned the amount of its public incentives package and set its deadline for announcing its HQ+R&D site.

By the end of this month, SHW reportedly expects to announce the site for its new HQ+R&D, according to two sources. The $1 billion, 1.8-million-square-foot HQ+R&D will be built adjacent to each other on whatever site is chosen and they will consolidate up to 6,000 SHW employees from throughout Northeast Ohio, Minneapolis and potentially other locations.

Thank you for the above article Ken.

I personally hope they build on Jacobs/Weston lots. IMO  filling the empty lots and empty west quadrant on Public Square would Have a more dynamic and immediate impact downtown .  And personally I was hoping it would be taller than just 40 stories. That’s a little disappointing if true. The other three locations would be more isolated and we are still left with empty lots in our downtown.
