I don't think the implementation in Westwood is what @taestellhad in mind. That one will not have a diagonal crossing option so it's more like an improved leading pedestrian interval, than a full pedestrian scramble.

I didn't think so, and am aware its different than what will be needed at 5th and Vine. But the example does meet the definition. It was just nice to point out and see the city has actually made some kind of engagement with this design style. I too am hoping for more.

Was in a rush and couldn’t get pics earlier today BUT Fountain Place looks Gooood!!. They have installed some small signage along Vine St. for Deloitte as well. The second floor office space on the Vine St. side (I’m assuming is Deloitte) looks ready, I could see lighting and furniture and such from the street. I also noticed construction looks to have started on the restaurant Royce with framing going in. It didn’t look like construction on Jeff Rubys has commenced just yet tho.

No it looks like they kept the old tile work. They may have cleaned and or repaired them because now they actually look decent and not out of place with the new swooping looking installs and glass. Those big retractable glass doors along the restaurants are going to look amazing opened in the summer.

I know for a fact that the vertical columns have been VE'd out of the project. I worked on the project 3CDC cut alot out of the foundry.

Im not saying that work wasn’t valued out (a very normal thing), I’m just saying the project turned out really well regardless. I didn’t get around to the Race Street side yet tho.

See inside Deloitte’s office overlooking Fountain Square: PHOTOS

By Tom Demeropolis  –  Senior staff reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier

Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. led a group of state and city officials through the Foundry in downtown Cincinnati, which has already welcomed its first office tenant, Deloitte.

Officials from 3CDC provided a tour of the redevelopment project Thursday morning, showing off the progress that has been made as the building transitions from a former Macy’s department store to an office building with first-floor retail and restaurant space. Mayor Aftab Pureval was joined by Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development, as well as John Werkman, chief of business services division with the Ohio Department of Development.

Steve Leeper, president and CEO of 3CDC, said the Foundry will bring a different energy to this portion of downtown once it is completed and full.

Very Nice!

I know this is going to be the trend in the post-Covid work from home world, but it's amazing to me that those photos are of an accounting firm. The classic stereotype of an accountant with the spool printer/calculator and a green visor crunching numbers and this space looks... like a tech coworking space or a higher education incubator. Really interesting to see projects like this and to a similar extent the Pure Romance move to a more corworking and hospitality looking office space.

It does look pretty fantastic. One thing to consider is that Deloitte also has a large consulting practice. Not sure how much is in Cincinnati, but consulting offices tend to be pretty schnazzy

The old Rockbottom Restaurant on Fountain Square is fenced off and under construction, anyone hear of a tenant?

Edited by 646empire

If no specific tenant has been signed, I wonder if they're proactively working to split that massive space into multiple retail spaces.

Always thought it would be a good spot for a real local brewery to open a taproom. Fifty West, Little Miami, Sonder, Fretboard, West Side, Third Eye. Would make a great place for any of them to break into the downtown market.

Possibly, although it looked like it was a full build out taking place, but hard to say

Pics from today, those round lights are certainly new since the Rockbottom Restaurant, I really hope 5/3rd isn’t going to use this primetime space as meeting/office……..

I heard March First Brewing is going into the Rockbottom space. I can't remember if they were taking the whole thing or just a portion of it.

@646empireRockbottom was renovated a a year or so before the pandemic, those lights are not new.

Did you see if any of the brewing equipment was still in place? That stuff is expensive so I wonder if they would leave it there for the next user if it does turn out to be a brewery again.

Good catch! I didn’t get the chance to go In

after this renovation. I didn’t notice any brewing equipment just a lot of kitchen stuff. If I remember correctly didn’t rockbottom stretch wayyy back to 6th street? With the big beer tanks visible on the sixth street side? I believe those widows are covered so the brewing stuff may still be back there.

Very mixed feelings on this. Love having a local brewery here but not a fan of March First. Their beer isn't all that great, and on top of that I have heard they don't treat their employees very well. Plus, the guy is one of the region's biggest Trump donors.

So disappointed. I always come here for news on local development, not political opinions. Why feel the need to add to a post which political party someone contributes or donates? How does that effect local development projects in terms of quality?

Again, I expected better from this forum.

Thunderdome’s “City Bird” is coming to Fountain Square, they are taking a piece of the former Rockbottom Space. This location will be very BUSY I’m sure and fits in well with the mix that’s developing on and around the square. I’m hoping they will keep this location open Late Night!

As a side note Fountain Square is poised to roar back with all these new (and really good) tenants on the way. Royce, Jeff Ruby’s, The New Brewery/Restaurant, City Bird and Five Iron Golf along with others in the area like the recently announced Korean Chicken place and Paris Baguette. Plus The Foundry’s biggest tenant DMG moving in with its hundreds of workers. My gosh next spring when all are open is going to be amazing!! And look pretty impressive to out of town visitors to the area.

Next they need to fill the old Panera Bread!

WIth the Carew closing as office space, it would be nice if they add the office tower above the old Macy's.  While residential and hotel development is awesome, there is still a need for a mix of workers who are downtown too. Having the 20 story tower on top of that building would add energy to Ftn Sq. IMO

Covelli for over two years begged the City to help them ongoing issues at the Panera. The site is going to be hard to fill. I was talking to some OGs, who told me it was similar when Arby's use to be located at that corner. They had people coming in sitting in the dining room, sleeping, aggravating paying customers. Others using the restrooms for anything but 1 or 2. Panera had so much theft also at this location, the urban experiment for Covelli soured and they pulled out. Shame because they catered a ton in and around the downtown area. Covid just gave them the perfect escape plan.

We can do better than Panera and Arby's.

They are looking for more of a sit-down dining concept here, hopefully chef driven. It would be nice to get another quality restaurant to bolster the square.

Panera is a great addition. It offers the flexibility of take out, fast casual dining while also the ability to use as a work station or work meetings. It is something that is missed IMO.

Agree, there needs to be more affordable, fast casual options especially for a number of the conventions that come to town. There has to be places for convention goers to grab quick lunch options or even affordable dinners. I am all about chef driven restaurants but there are plenty in the CBD and OTR to fill that niche. CBD needs a fast food option again. I can hear groans from many, but there is a large segment of the population that still frequent and enjoy them. When Wendy's and even Taco Bell were open downtown, you couldnt get near them at lunch time. It was dinner and weekends that hurt there numbers.

Panera is like a Starbucks. It is a chain but it is that 2nd space. You have consistency in the location and you know what you are going to get. I have had many business meetings in Panera’s because you can meet one on one over coffee, do a slide presentation with internet and know that you are going to have a consistent venue no matter where you are. This is invaluable to business travelers. Panera is much more than just a sandwich shop, and for the record I find their food overpriced for what it is, but if I am out of town and need to meet with a few clients and there is no office available, Panera’s make excellent locations for such meetings.

This kind of sums things up tho. Some people may want more fast food options but so far  it’s seems as tho visitors to downtown are saying fast food for lunch yes but for dinner it’s been a NO. To be honest I can’t think of a new* fast food place that would do well during the evenings downtown. I would have said Chick Fil A a week or so ago but now that City Bird is opening on Fountain Square it’s probably no too. Chipotle is always busy but it’s a HOT MESS most of the time lol. I do like Potbelly!

Edited by 646empire

Also…. I actually think Downtown has enough fast food/fast casual, the problem is the hours these places operate need to go later in the evenings. 3 Skyline Chili locations, Chipotle, PotBelly, 2 Jimmy John locations, PennStation, Fusion Sushi are a few.

Just to clarify, aren't all of those considered "fast casual"? It seems like the lowest price point "fast food" (sandwiches <$5) options just haven't been successful downtown.

Thats the tricky part, I personally consider Chipotle and Jimmy Johns fast food. Some only consider old school places like Wendy’s and Taco Bell as fast food.

Fair enough... it's a spectrum. But I think it's true that the cheapest fast food options haven't done well downtown.

I think location matters too of course. the Wendy's on 4th street was well served because it was able to get some Reds/Bengals game day traffic from back in the day. Now it became quite run down toward the end which detracted from people going there, but it did work out well in that space. I do not think Fountain Sq would be good for a McDonalds or Wendy's but certainly certain areas of downtown could be a fit

100% agree.  After Taco Bell closing I’m not seeing much else happening in that lane that will be sustainable.

Does it seem deliberate? From the photo you posted, it looks like the bull is hiding and "peaking" around the corner, which makes me wonder if it was an artistic decision to poke fun at the traditional image of the aggressive bull. But I don't think of Jeff Ruby as the kind of patron of the arts who would be looking to challenge traditional images of power.
