  • Their treatment of their employees and their support of someone who tried to overthrow the United States government affects my feelings about this development and the forum is a perfect place to relay

  • The footprint of the tower is already determined.  You can see the supports and elevator core here:

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again. The intersection of 5th & Vine needs to be the location of Cincinnati's first pedestrian scramble crossing.

There is a place like it that I went to in Dallas.... Fogo de Chao... The place is AMAZING... expensive... but delicious.

If anyone has been to both, are they very similar?

Anyone else a little amused at the excitement over new restaurants and things with foreign names as opposed to the native country and rock-themed place?  The fact is you could take whatever they cook at this "Brazillian" place, put it on a plate in the country place, and the food snobs would not think it tastes as good.  It's all packaging and that's all it is.

Although the word Cadillac is French...

Hey! I'll still eat at the Cadillac Ranch place.... I'm just a big fan of the brazilian place cause it's new and different... the country place...the food will probably be burgers, steaks...that kind of stuff... that i've had before

how is the facade facing the square coming along?  How about ia Vite?  Hate to be a pain, but does anyone have updated pictures?  I havent been in Cincy for 4 months now and havent seen a lot of things and it seems like there hasnt been any picture updates for a month or so, so any update would be nice.

^Glad you asked...I was down there today and took some pics:

Wow, Via Vite is moving along so slowly.

Get over it...  You are never going to sell me on country themed places no matter how good the food is...  The reason?  The music makes my skin crawl.  I just spent the weekend in West Central Texas on a business trip and I practically kissed the ground when I arrived back in Ohio.

You should really check out Toledo in that case.

thanks for the pics Rando.  I really dont know what to think about the north side facade.  It reminds me of the 80's or something and I think it looks cheap too.  I dunno, I guess we will see.

^ It looks better in person, I like it.

It's just the photographer's camera skillz. ;)

what is going on with all the different colors on the north facade?  It seems to me lots of drugs were used to come up with this idea

I am not feeling that look either.

>met a girl

We want pictures.

Whoa, do those light up at night?  Neon?

Are we still talking about Mark Glove's woman?

I like it. It gives some personality to the parking garage that it's covering.

HOORAY 4 COLOR !!!!!!!!!!!

--Good! The influence of drug use on creative expression is well documented. I feel Art & Drugs share a symbiotic relationship.

6th & Walnut has emerged as a premier intersection in cincy.

Im pretty sure you've mentioned your distaste for country music at least 10 times now.

But unfortunately the old Bella space still sits empty.  They need to get something in there NOW!

Construction has begun on a new restaurant in that space. The restaurant will be called NADA. The owner has other restaurants in the city, but his name escapes me right now. The layout will be similar to Bella with the exception of the private dining room removed to expand the kitchen.

wow...what a great inside source you have become nicker.  keep the good information coming.

I've heard rumors for some time now that David Falk was going to open a Mexican Restaurant at the former Bella Location.

Here is an old Enquirer article about Nada indicating it was going to be in Norwood.  I don't know what happened there, but I hope this is going to be downtown now.

From the 3/4/06 Enquirer:

Boca chef plans new eatery

BY POLLY CAMPBELL | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

David Falk, chef/owner of Boca, the Italian restaurant in Oakley that's one of the hottest reservations in town, plans to open a casual Mexican restaurant this summer in Norwood.

"It's called Nada, which means 'nothing' in Spanish, to symbolize that there's nothing like it in Cincinnati," Falk says. "It's going to be our take on authentic Mexican food, everything we've loved about the flavors of Mexican cooking."

Nada will be at 3917 Edwards Road, next to the vacant area that is to become Rookwood III.

The Nada chef will be Jon Mouch, sous-chef at Boca.

The menu for Nada is not complete, but it will feature dishes such as tacos al pastor, Oaxacan mole and carnitas pibil, homemade chips and salsas, premium tequilas and made-to-order guacamole.

The restaurant will seat about 62. Its design, by architect Don Beck, will be "contemporary but festive," Falk says. Rather than reservations, there will be a call-ahead waiting list.

Falk also announced changes at Boca. Instead of the current prix-fixe menu at $47 for three courses, the menu will become a la carte March 14, and the two menus, for the trattoria and the dining room, will be combined.

"Same food, same cooking style, same service - we're just responding to customers' requests to offer more options of dining style," Falk says.

The new restaurant and the Boca changes are in line with what Falk wants the Boca Restaurant Group to become as it opens more restaurants in Greater Cincinnati.

omg i loathe mexican food.  the fact that they would put one downtown disgusts me.....

(jk, i LOVE mexican food.... but I feel this is what people who are against cadillac ranch sound like and its a bit ridiculous)

I tell ya one thing.  Downtown is really getting a nice variety of restaurants .e. Mexican, Brazilian, Italian, BBQ and seafood right on the square (not to mention Palaminos).  Plus there ae several restaurants on neighbhoring streets that are very good.

Is Rockwell's still going to be there is that where Cadillac Ranch is going?

Is Rockwell's still going to be there is that where Cadillac Ranch is going?

what is rockwell's?

Wasn't there a bar and grill on the 5th 3rd building called Rockwell's?

^ There is Rock Bottom Brewery, which has been there for at least ten years.

Sorry thats what I meant. IS that still going to remain there?

yea.  to my knowledge.

Nada will be opening in the old Bella space on Walnut.  The cuisine will be mexican-inspired.  I heard this from David Falk's own lips.

Dogs on Fountain Square?

Downtown residents push city to drop its 1975 ban

BY JANE PRENDERGAST | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

June 14, 2007

DOWNTOWN - Fido isn't allowed on Fountain Square.

It's a city policy that dates back to 1975. No dogs - or any other animals, except those guiding disabled people - can step paw on the public space.

But as Cincinnati continues to pitch downtown as the hot new place to live, officials realize new residents might have pets and might want to walk them around the city. So they're considering changing the no-dog rule.

"We certainly understand there's a growing demographic downtown," said Meg Olberding, city spokeswoman. "That's why we're looking at this."

The dog issue reared its head this week after a weekend event on the square. A group promoting the Opera Dogs event showed up Saturday with two dressed-up dogs to try to attract people to the event the following day.

The two dressed-up dogs were allowed on the square - a modification to the 1975 rule adopted in 1983 allows dogs if they're part of a program there. But the six or seven others who came with their owners to support the Opera Dogs had to keep off.

"The whole moving of the fountain was to create this better open space for community gathering," said Lydia Stec, Opera Dogs organizer. "Why have such a policy when you're trying to attract people downtown?"

City officials also have to keep in mind, Olberding said, that there are people who want to use the square who might not like dogs. "People feel very strongly on both sides of the issue."

Stec started an e-mail campaign, encouraging people to go to www.myfountainsquare.com and complain. Olberding also invited anyone with comments to e-mail City Manager Milton Dohoney's office: [email protected].

I like dogs

If the police horses can do their business in the middle of the street, AND not have to pick it up, I can't see why anyone would make a big deal about dogs on the square.  Unless the Square is afraid it might become liable if someone is bitten by another person's dog.  (People always go after the deep pockets, right?)

I am all for diversity!

I don't think it would be a big deal to allow dogs on the square.  The city has an ordinance requiring dog owners to clean up after their dogs, so they are able to fine people who do not.

I'm curious why the ban was written in the first place.  Does anyone know why?

A public space shouldn't have a restriction like that.

Nada will be opening in the old Bella space on Walnut.  The cuisine will be mexican-inspired.  I heard this from David Falk's own lips.

Strange name, but that's great news.  Timeline?

yea, I like dogs...the more the better...well, not strays!  And I bet a lot of ppl moving downtown are pet owners so this seems like a no brainer.

I take my dog to FS all the time. Have never been busted, actually I had no idea there was a ban. There are many dog friendly stores downtown and as long as the leash laws and "pickup after your pet is followed" they should be allowed on the square.

Oh suburbanites please save us!!

Downtown Pins Hopes On New Restaurants

CINCINNATI -- City leaders and businesses are pouring big bucks into the downtown area with hopes of revitalizing the city. The goal is to attract suburban families out of the suburbs back to the city.

Downtown Cincinnati is refocusing itself to become more of a cutting-edge entertainment district.

The goal, said downtown advocate David Ginsburg, is to become a place to go for different kinds of entertainment and different kinds of dining, and a key component to changing the urban core is emphasizing quality restaurants.

As another sign of this downtown momentum, a new restaurant will open next week.

Cadillac Ranch, on Fifth Street between Vine and Walnut streets, was putting on its finishing touches Friday and will hold its grand opening next Thursday. Following its grand opening, Cadillac Ranch will be open every day for lunch.

In addition, right across from Cadillac Ranch, Ocean Air will start serving seafood in February.

Sources told News 5 a southwestern-style restaurant will settle into the old Bella space, and a new Starbucks will locate next to the new Fountain Square Graeter’s.

The owner of Nicola's said his new Italian bistro, Via Vite, should open on the square in September.

Despite the changes, some downtown visitors expressed skepticism.

"This area has the potential but I don't know if it'll work out as well,” said Michael Kline of Oakley.

As downtown runs more toward restaurant than retail, the hope is more people will make it a regular destination as opposed to just special events.

“You come down here, you eat and then it's like, well, it's time to go home," said Beth Miller of Eastgate.

Wow, the two quotes in that article are really thought provoking.

>I'm curious why the ban was written in the first place.  Does anyone know why?

Because dogs poop and people step in it.

Thats why we hire those crackhead ambassadors though, isn't it?

Nope nothing to do downtown. No professional sports or theater or music or pretty parks or funky museums or the library. Just some tall buildings and buses. Nothing to see here. Nothing to do before or after dinner. Nothing at all.

Eastgate is the happening place you know, they have go-karts, mini golf and EASTGATE MALL A real shoppers paradise! The food court rocks! Diversity?? you bet! eat at the famed Chinese fast food joint then ride the carousel and barf fried red sweet and sour gooey sauce.

I stopped by FS on the way home last night and it was packed. This was after 9 pm.

where else would you attract suburban families from?
