June 4, 200619 yr Riverviewer; I agree. It is very impressive. Totally different than when she is up on a fountain. She is a very big-boned woman.
June 4, 200619 yr Here's Monte's pictures: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=7880.0 ...btw, Monte, you did a great job tripod-free! Did you happen to get a shot from behind, with her hair flowing down like a waterfall? Oh, and regarding holy ass...I've definitely found I enjoy swapping curse words around into phrases normally associated with other ones...freshens them up...try it at home! Son of a sh*t!
June 4, 200619 yr ^Yeah, as if taking the Lord's name is vein is not enough, we must throw in an adjective like that. Really fresh. Lol, I would like to see it up close, get a good look at the mechanisms in the arms.
June 4, 200619 yr a) Where is the Lord's name mentioned? b) What the hell does the circulatory system have to do with anything? c) I think you've got your parts of speech confused..."ass" is a noun...
June 5, 200619 yr a) I was referring to your first post. b) it = The Genius of Water. c) Answered with the first I assume. I should have put the lol on the line before. ;)
June 12, 200619 yr Thanks again for that reminder, RiverViewer. I went with my folks to check it out yesterday. Wish I'd checked this thread beforehand... I'd have attempted (but probably failed) to get a shot of her hair in back. The hair is pretty cool and not something I'd really noticed before. She is tough to photograph, but a mini tripod is one of the best things money can buy. :-) I'd have needed a wider lens to get all of her while using the railing to brace the camera, though... so Monte's is better.
June 12, 200619 yr The new Jos. A Bank looks pretty good, I must admit. Yes, it does and it seemed like it was open in no time. When I walked past there yesterday it seemed pretty busy.
June 13, 200619 yr I see PigBoy always has to try and one up me...grrrr Although damn you are short, is that ceiling I see in your shot? ;) hehe
June 14, 200619 yr Couldn't find a rendering with the story :whip: Fountain Square building to get facelift Cincinnati Business Courier - 3:30 PM EDT Tuesday Fifth Third Bank, as part of the ongoing Fountain Square overhaul, unveiled new facade designs on Tuesday for the William Rowe Building. The five-story building is located between the square and Sixth Street. George Schaefer Jr., Fifth Third Bank's president and CEO, said the building, completed in 1969, needed a facelift. http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2006/06/12/daily21.html
June 14, 200619 yr Fifth Third facelift unveiled Artist tries to 'put a smile on' downtown complex BY JON NEWBERRY AND SARA PEARCE | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITERS Fifth Third Bancorp unveiled plans Tuesday for a giant 51-foot by 355-foot public work of art spanning an entire block along Sixth Street, north of Fountain Square and opposite the Contemporary Arts Center. The new building façade is part of the $16.5 million renovation of the Fifth Third complex abutting the square. The overall project includes renovated retail space fronting on the square and a back-lit glass curtain covering the four upper floors of the five-story building on the square's north side. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060614/BIZ01/606140323/1076/BIZ

June 14, 200619 yr Dueling Geniuses Of Water! My batteries were dead when I got there, though I did take some shots on my mom's camera - I'll have to get copies...
June 14, 200619 yr None of the articles I read indicate when the 5/3 building will be done. It's a shame it won't be done the same time as the square. WCPO has several pics. Here's one of the art on one side of the building. The others are too big to attach. http://www.wcpo.com/news/2006/local/06/13/fifththird.html
June 14, 200619 yr A Work of Art? You can bank on it By Greg Paeth Post staff reporter Fifth Third Bank plans to bring some colorful public art to the north end of Fountain Square with an exterior makeover of the dark and gloomy office/parking structure that runs between Walnut and Vine in the heart of downtown Cincinnati. The $13.5 million renovation of the bank's William S. Rowe Building dovetails perfectly with the ongoing rebuilding of Fountain Square by the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC), which plans to complete its $42 million project in September. The makeover is designed to breathe new life into downtown as a retailing and entertainment destination, complementing office and residential uses downtown. http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060614/BIZ/606140306/1001
June 15, 200618 yr I really like those pictures from the link. The night shots make me feel especially good about the make-over.
June 15, 200618 yr im pretty uneasy about the neon tubes idea. I guess I will have to wait and see. I just dont want it to be tacky all in the name of art.
June 15, 200618 yr This project is coming along smoothly ... It looks like they are prepping the foundation for the fountain & the pavilion to go atop in the northwest corner of the square! http://www.aroundcinci.com/icams/fountain/
June 17, 200618 yr Maybe I just misunderstand this: "A 22-foot-square image from the Tyler Davidson Fountain - the centerpiece of the square - will hang above the breezeway for pedestrian access between Sixth Street and the square." ...But do they mean that there will be a picture of the Fountain... on the square itself?
June 17, 200618 yr Both of the renderings of the 5/3 building (north and south sides) show a large square thing hanging over the area of the breezeway. I assume that's where they're talking about.
June 17, 200618 yr I see that... but will it be a picture of the fountain itself? I mean... there *is* the real fountain right there :).
June 19, 200618 yr May be an accent to you... I call it lame :) - if it is indeed a picture of the fountain... next to said fountain... weird.
June 19, 200618 yr Ok, at least ya'all get my point then. It's kinda like putting a giant Cincinnati sign on the city... wait.. nevermind.
June 19, 200618 yr ^ Please tell me that is a photoshop job and not real. What, the words or the emblems? "Ok, at least ya'all get my point then. It's kinda like putting a giant Cincinnati sign on the city... wait.. nevermind." This is going to have to be one of those things that you have to wait and see. However, this type of city iconographic advertising in nothing new.
June 19, 200618 yr Ok, at least ya'all get my point then. Speaking of "accents" south of the Ohio River. Did you just say, "ya'all"? *SMACK* And yes Cincy-Rise, I was speaking of the emblems. Did you take that pic?
June 19, 200618 yr No, LOL ... OTRFAN did. No, the emblems aren't photo-shopped, but I put the wordage in. This guy is a regular patroller of the streets in downtown. ;) (P.S. You can't see it in the pic, but there's also a big "Buick" logo that covers the hood and say's "BUICK" across the bottom of the logo.)
June 20, 200618 yr Nicola's restaurant might take Fountain Square spot Upscale eatery reportedly beat out de Cavel for site Cincinnati Business Courier - June 16, 2006by Lisa Biank FasigStaff Reporter The group that is charged with transforming Fountain Square into an entertainment hub has apparently chosen upscale eatery Nicola's as a key tenant, and turned down chef Jean-Robert de Cavel, who wanted to build a restaurant and wine bar there. Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) said it preferred to give the space to the Over-the-Rhine restaurant because it could attract more new business, said Martin Wade, a partner with de Cavel. http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2006/06/19/story5.html
June 20, 200618 yr Very exciting for Nicola's - a business that struggled but stuck it out in OTR through the whole post-riots nightmare, and is one of the best restaurants in the city (and my personal favorite!)...doesn't sound like 3CDC handled this as tactfully as they should have - there was obviously miscommunication somewhere - but it's great that it's Nicola and not some out-of-towners or a chain or something...
June 20, 200618 yr Nicola's is one of my favorites as well (Sturkey's in Wyoming the other). Agree that the negotiations sounded a little odd. Hopefully there are no hard feelings and everone flourishes downtown. (One can hope.)
June 20, 200618 yr I went to Nicola's for my birthday last year and loved it but I will say that I thought part of the charm was their location. I look forward to more restaurant options at Fountain Square that are unique to Cincinnati so hearing about Nicola's is refreshing but I would think there would be room for Nicola's & another De Cavel restaurant on the square together. I am still waiting to hear about a Fountain Square Graeters, that would be the icing on the cake for me. If Mr. Richard Graeter is lurking, I would like to suggest you bring back my favorite flavor of Graeters to the Fountain Square location only - Amaretto Crunch. It was by far the best flavored ice cream I have ever eaten in my life.
June 20, 200618 yr While not the Square, you can get a few flavors of Graters at Cafe Martin, downtown in the Garfield Suites Hotel. (Also holding out hope for a Square location in the future.)
June 21, 200618 yr etail stores to make way for restaurants at Carew Tower Cincinnati Business Courier - 5:13 PM EDT Tuesday Four stores will close their doors in Carew Tower downtown by August, to be replaced by two restaurants, the building's owner said. The four stores that will close are: The Limited, Express, Bath & Body Works and New York & Co. All told, they occupy 25,000 square feet of space on the building's first and second levels, according to Alex Warm, whose Belvedere Corp. owns the Carew Tower complex. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2006/06/19/daily24.html?from_rss=1
June 21, 200618 yr ^It would have been nice to see other stores go to make room for these new restaurants. These four retailers are some of the few respectable tenants left at the mall (or whatever it is turning in to). Don't get me wrong I love downtown, but I hate to see some of the tenants it loses. Hey who knows maybe a couple of these retailers will be interested locating elsewhere downtown and opening up along the street somewhere in the Fountain Square District....now that would be a sweet tradeoff!
June 21, 200618 yr ^ agree as well. I do shop at Bath & Body Works and New York & Co. on a regular basis. I make it a point to shop only at the down town locations. :(
June 22, 200618 yr If I'm not mistake, all of those stores are in the north east corner, the one that points towards the square (first and second floors). Is that correct? Other than Talbots, I think those stores were just about the last of the "mall style" stores remaining. It's starting to become nothing but filler (tenants that move in without really redecorating, using the existing left-behind fixtures, etc).
June 22, 200618 yr Any word on how successful Havan Martini Bar has been at their new location? I have been inside but haven't eaten their yet.
June 22, 200618 yr Any word on how successful Havan Martini Bar has been at their new location? I have been inside but haven't eaten their yet. Havana is great. I've been there a couple of times and it's always had a good crowd. They do serve food, but it's little things. You don't go to Havana for a meal. People go their to drink and socialize.
June 25, 200618 yr I suppose closing Express for Men too? Oh well... any other suggestions for reasonably priced business casual clothing downtown? I buy my crap work clothes there (and previously, GAP, in tower place). If T-mobile moves, where will I heckle Cincy-Rise?
