Posted October 7, 200717 yr Long before Crocker Park back in 1974 Boca Mall opened near the Atlantic Ocean then officially closed in 1989. Just two years later, one of the first lifestyle centers in the U.S. opened on the former site of the enclosed mall, this is Mizner Park:
October 8, 200717 yr Eh, there it is. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 8, 200717 yr Mizner Park seems to me to be what The Greene in Beavercreek is trying to become, eventually. At least, architecturally. In terms of content, they're miles apart. The Boca Raton Museum of Art is quite good for its size.
October 8, 200717 yr nice work on this. wasn't coco walk in the grove built around the same time as mizner (early 90's)? ive been to both quite a few times, they're nice malls, but coco walk is a lot more fun. ah but let us not forget ohio was in on this lifestyle mall game too back then, in fact even earlier with the continent in columbus (built in the 80's). i had the pleasure  of living there for a few months when i first moved from bg to columbus. ps -- next time you are around boca make sure to catch dayton's bongo dork  http://funkabillyplayboys.com/bongo.htm
October 8, 200717 yr Minzer Park is more of an example of the new urbanism movement vs a life style center. A life style center focuses on the retail mix and being an open air shopping center. Rookwood and Stone Creek centers in Cincinnati are considered lifestyle centers. I would argue that neither meet the deliberate creation of an urban village like Minzer Park. New urbanism blends a life style center with a large residential/office component creating a viable place to live work and play similar to what downtowns provided before the retail left. I would enjyo seeing more new urbanism developments like Minzer park or Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. The plaza in Kansas city is the oldest such develoment. It was built in 1923.

October 8, 200717 yr no, i would say a lifestyle mall focuses on apts above shops that are set in an artificially controlled environment like easton, the greene and crocker park and these fla joints too. it evolved from new urbanism principles. legacy or going back shaker sounds more what you are referring to when you say lifestyle center? i really think all this is splitting hairs, but ok.
October 8, 200717 yr ps -- next time you are around boca make sure to catch dayton's bongo dork  http://funkabillyplayboys.com/bongo.htm Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to do so when I'm down there in March.
October 8, 200717 yr I like the backside (east) of Mizner Park with the townhomes and how they are integrated into the adjacent neighborhood. Do you have any pics of that part of the development. I also like that Mizner Park is part of downtown Boca and not a stand alone development like the Greene. I would also call this a mixed use project.
