Posted October 8, 200717 yr I’ve posted on this neighborhood before. This time I walked it with a map and clipboard, seeing how much is lost or is about to be lost. Here are the results: Note that a lot has been lost prior to 1980, based on the gaps between houses on the map. A mix of old and new pix note the blue board-up to the left, and the vacant lot in the background. ..vacant, no sign. (this street is mostly occupied, though) (but also because of the deep lots in this part of the neighborhood) I’ve been told that this neighborhood is “gone” (meaning that it will be demolished, by a casual aquiantance who used to do planning consulting with Miami Valley Hospital (the big institutional player in this area), but there is nothing official or in the press yet about it’s impending demise. Also, not sure what will replace it. My feelings are mixed. I like this neighborhood, not because I like slums, but that the odd street angles and the construction close to the street gives the place a somewhat picturesque and urbanistic feeling. Some of the houses here are quite old, too. I wonder if, rather than demolition, it could be brought back with infill housing fitting into the tight urban context, and some of the board-ups could be rehabilitated, rather than wholesale clearance. There are still sets of houses that are still lived-in here. But then maybe wholesale removal and replacement is the efficient way to do this…that it would be cheaper than a piecemeal infill/rehab strategy.
October 8, 200717 yr Pulaski was a revolutionary war hero who taught the General Washington how to fight and win on horseback. And this is how we thank him? Seriously, I would hope for infill and rehabs. Anything to keep those street angles. I could see big developers wanting to wipe the grid clean and redraw (and rename) the streets to their liking.

October 9, 200717 yr Interesting shots. It seems as though you could choose between complete demolition and rehab/infill on a block-by-block basis.
October 10, 200717 yr That'd be ridiculous to clear the entire neighborhood out. Why can't a project similar to what happened in the Fairgrounds happen in SP? It would seem to be the next area up for a total make-over. This house is great. I love places with the 2nd story balconies. Someone fix this place up!
