thinking of fnally relocating to the Cincy area and Montgomery is a big possibility. Anyone shed light on how it is living there? I have only seen the main strip which seems charming. Are the neighborhoods nice?  Nice houses? Anything would be great.

I would recomend Mariemont over montgomery any day, I would recomend Mt. Lookout over both of them. 

As far as suburbs it's one of the best in Cincinnati. It is, however, painfully boring.

Listen to these guys, if you want a nice suburb, stick to Mariemont. If you want an interesting neighborhood that is walkable and has a bright future look to Mt. Lookout!

Wyoming is older. Both have nice "downtowns". Montgomery has more energy. They have Montgomery Inn ribs, Kenwood Mall nearby.

Yeah, like most have said, if going to Dayton then either Glendale or Wyoming.  Might be more expensive than Montgomery but you'd probably be better off near I-75 than I-71

Wyoming and Glendale are pretty similar and are both great neighborhoods.  They have good access to parks (Winton Woods, Glenwood Gardens, Glenview Golfcourse), they're beautiful and walkable, and have nice business districts.  Montgomery is nice too, but is definitely less walkable, but it is closer to Kenwood, the East Side, etc.  None of these, however, are "exciting".

I'd say it's exciting "for a suburb". Being close to all of the new development near 71 probably makes it more inviting than Wyoming which is landlocked by more "depressed" areas of town.

LOL True, but it means a shorter commute for him if he lives farther north. In other words, being a midget could have its advantages.

Montgomery actually has a few bars in its business district.  It certainly isn't Mt. Adams, but it still has something going for it in the nightlife regard.  It also has one of the two comedy clubs worth mentioning in the area, Go Bananas.

Glendale is more historic and has a "quainter" down than Montgomery, though Montgomery has more "stuff."  Wyoming has a lively little downtown, bars, etc, and its housing stock is similar to Montgomery, moreso than Glendale. 

Are you interested in the public school systems?

Sycamore (Montgomery), and Wyoming are both excellent school districts, and Princeton (Glendale) isn't bad either.

Why not Sharonville? It's in the heart of it all. ;)

If you are going to move to Sharonville, you might as well go to Springdale.

I don't know how anyone could live in Sharonville and not be on Zoloft.

There are some nice older parts of Sharonville. Plus you've got Cliff's Hardware.

 

Just don't live in the Butler County part of Sharonville, you might as well be in West Chester Twp.

You can buy cheap in Forest Park or Springdale.  But then you'd have to live in Forest Park or Springdale.

There is a significant area of older housing in "downtown" Sharonville, you would be in walking distance to the Library and pool, and the Blue Goose, which is a neat "non chain" pub.  And "jogging distance" to Sharon Woods.

If you are going to commute to Dayton frequently and possible daily, bless your heart if you move to Wyoming.  I couldn't imagine traveling through the 1-75/I-275 exchange and still have to make it up to Dayton.  The problem with Montgomery though is that you have to cross over from I-71 to I-75. 

 

What part of Dayton are you looking at commuting too?  Downtown Dayton, Dayton Mall area or the Wright-Patt AFB corridor?  There is a big swing on where in Dayton you will be commuting to and that would help us narrow the field down.  Also where do you want to keep your commute time wise?  30 minutes, 40 minutes?

anyways, there is a lot that's right with Forest Park and Springdale.  These neighborhoods are the most diverse in the Metro, they have easy access to some of the best recreation areas in the Metro (Glenwood Gardens, Winton Woods, Glenview Golf Course), Springdale has an excellent recreation center and recreation program, they have good access to I-75 and 275, they are not exurbs and are basically built out, they are in Hamilton County.  There's a lot that is "right" with these communities.

Thx again folks. I am hoping to move to a suburb w/ charm and paying a bit extra for it is ok.  I have always liked mareimont/Mt Lookout/Hyde park but the commute makes it hard. Wyoming and Glendale seem to fit the bill as far as access  to 75 and charm.  Any preference b/w the two?

Wyoming is closer to the city core, but has always seemed snobbish to me. Glendale should be the same way, but it just doesn't give me that feel, perhaps because it is part of PCS, which is pleasantly diverse.

I prefer Glendale by far.  Better housing stock, better topography, better historical significance, better access to I-75 (Sharon Road), and better seemingly for the family (diverse school system).
