Posted October 9, 200717 yr Who knew there was a connection between the three. Check out the Comedy Central website for last night's Daily Show to see Fox reveal that his family originally came from Cincinnati and the Stewart bad-mouthed the Queen City. Arrgh!
October 10, 200717 yr Fox said that immigration is a two way street, and that his (great?) grandfather migrated from Cincinnati to Mexico in 1895, and that he found his American dream in Mexico. Stewart responded, in one of those sort of comedic interjections that sometimes hit and sometimes fall flat, and I'm paraphrasing, "Can I just tell you, Cincinnati has gone way downhill since then..." It was one of those times it fell flat. But relatively speaking, he's got a point.
October 10, 200717 yr humor is humor...if you can't see the humor in the joke Mr. Stewart made then that is a little sad. I guess in Cleveland we've been the butt of many a joke, and most Clevelanders don't get upset...we laugh, take a lesson from your burning river neighbor to the north.
October 10, 200717 yr don't lose the big picture -- as usual with all things jon stewart related....it wasn't funny.
October 10, 200717 yr I guess in Cleveland we've been the butt of many a joke, and most Clevelanders don't get upset...we laugh, take a lesson from your burning river neighbor to the north. The hell you all don't... Cleveland is just as defensive as Cincinnati when it comes to derogatory remarks. Nothing wrong with it ,we all take pride in our hometowns but it's not like Cincinnatians have some special inferiority complex that makes us jump to the defense. In fact, I think most people would agree with Stewart rather than get pissed.
October 10, 200717 yr ^well I guess some forumers are...but of course 'some forumers' does not represent the majority of how Clevelanders look at our city.
October 10, 200717 yr ^ i gotta agree - the hell we dont - lol! see? now i laughed at that....but not at that lamer cable tv guy's crack. he's just not ever funny.
October 10, 200717 yr It was a harmless joke. Nothing to get worked up about. Hell, I'm from Dayton, we get joked about all the time (The Simpsons, anyone?). "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 10, 200717 yr ^ i gotta agree - the hell we dont - lol! see? now i laughed at that....but not at that lamer cable tv guy's crack. he's just not ever funny. Honestly, very FEW tv show hosts are actually funny. How the hell Jimmy Kimmel got the job, ill never know. Conan o'brien is a nerd but at least he's witty and comes up with stuff on the spot. I always thought he should have a better time slot but I guess he's taking over Leno's show soon.
October 11, 200717 yr yeah jimmy kimmel sux too. i liked the beer kid on the man show, that was hilarious, but thats it and it wasnt kimmel. conan is ok funny sometimes -- i got to have lunch with him once. he and i were the only two in this tiny place so we chatted for a long while until his assistant showed up and i left. i gotta say that was a wild random ny experience. very tall guy. the simpsons mentioned dayton?
October 11, 200717 yr "Five exits of fun" or some shit. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 11, 200717 yr relax Mr. Sensitivity No, how about you relax Mr. Sensitive ... I see that maybe I should've added a wink ... Geez ;)
October 11, 200717 yr "Five exits of fun" or some sh!t. Actually, it was "Dayton: Two Exits of Fun" (which makes it more funny, since, well, there are numerous Dayton exits) :)
October 11, 200717 yr Both of you, BANNED! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 11, 200717 yr relax Mr. Sensitivity No, how about you relax Mr. Sensitive ... I see that maybe I should've added a wink ... Geez ;) somebody is wearing some seriously knotted panties ;)
October 11, 200717 yr I know...I too am a cheeky bastard that gets kicks off of razzing people- don't ever take me seriously. Regarding the Simpsons- I believe it was the Hullabalooza episode where Cinci and Cleve got snubbed... art imitating reality.
October 12, 200717 yr I saw this and did not take that much offense, but I thought he said that "it went downhill since he left", inferring it would have been better if his grandfather had stayed. I think Jon Stewart is actually pretty funny, and I did not see this as a major slight, and if it was, big deal. Anyway, it is interesting that there is another Cincinnati family that produced a president - all we need is a Canadian connection to cover the NAFTA block.
October 12, 200717 yr Regarding the Simpsons- I believe it was the Hullabalooza episode where Cinci and Cleve got snubbed... art imitating reality. No, it was one where Marge and Homer kept trying to get away from the kids for some alone time but Bart and Lisa kept finding them. Marge and Homer told them that they were going to be staying in the Dayton Arms, and the kids watched the hotel get destroyed by a tornado on TV.
October 12, 200717 yr ^ I think LIC is right...I recall an episode with a bus coming to a crossroads of Cleve and Cincy, and it turning around.
October 12, 200717 yr That was the Hullabalooza episode, but that isn't when they went to Dayton. That year, Lollapolooza had snubbed Cleveland and Cinci, and went to Columbus only. Grasscat is right about which episode it was. The episode was a spoof of that movie with Tom Hanks chasing Leonardo DeCaprio around the country.
