Posted October 10, 200717 yr CIA draws place among top schools By SHANNON MORTLAND 4:30 am, October 8, 2007 The Cleveland Institute of Art has been named one of the world’s top 60 design schools, according to a survey by Business Week magazine, which released the names of the schools in alphabetical order. The magazine asked design experts and companies to list the schools that have interdisciplinary design and business programs with a curriculum they respect, and schools whose graduates they prefer to hire. Other schools on the list include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Royal College of Art in London and the University of Cincinnati. The list will appear in the Oct. 15 issue, which hits newsstands today.
October 10, 200717 yr Where does CCAD stand? I remember when I was looking for a school for graphic design they were one of the top schools in the entire region.
October 10, 200717 yr CCAD is probably at least top 20. Design Intelligence is the company that usually does design school rankings. Those schools probably weight more heavily on actual "talent" whereas daap students usually have a high gpa and co op experience before they enter the workforce which is why employers rank 'em so highly. Cleveland institute of music is another stellar school in Cleveland. My cousin went there and plays for the cleveland orchestra. Edit: Oh nevermind, business week did the study. I guess they don't rank them, they just mention them. There's a lot of schools in the U.S. on the list. Half of the ones listed are business schools :?
October 11, 200717 yr CIA is definately top-notch stuff... but i bet this is due to the industrial design major, which is great and all, but CIA is pretty amazing when it comes to fine art as well...
October 11, 200717 yr No, CIA is in University Circle on the eastern edge of the city. The proposed "district of design" is just east of downtown near playhouse square and CSU. Probably about 8 miles between them.
October 11, 200717 yr Students will also soon be able to hop the Silver Line at the E. 118th station (near the intersection of Mayfield and Euclid and a 3 min. walk from the CIA factory) or at the Adelbert station (about a 5 min. walk from CIA's Bellflower/East Blvd. facility) and be at the E. 14th street station, in the heart of the design district, in 15 minutes. There might also be an opportunity to have a CIA showroom in the District of Design (just speculating ... haven't heard anything to this effect).
