Posted October 13, 200717 yr Chicago - October 2007 - Part I I had some personal business to take care of in Chicago and expected to be there a couple of days. I ended up having to spend two more days, with one day of downtime in the middle - not a bad thing in Chicago, even when the weather takes a sudden turn toward late fall. Jarvis Beach, Rogers Park Dogs know all about unbridled enthusiasm! Following Jarvis from the beach to the Red Line station "This is a Red Line train to Howard. Transfer to Purple Line and Yellow Line trains at Howard." "This is Howard. Transfer to Purple Line and Yellow Line trains at Howard." The train in the center distance is a Yellow Line train returning from Dempster. Howard Street is the transfer point between Red Line Trains to/from downtown Chicago, Purple Line trains to/from Linden (Evanston), Yellow Line (Skokie Swift) trains to/from Dempster and several CTA and PACE bus lines. Howard is undergoing long-needed major reconstruction. Looking out the back window of a train departing Howard southbound for the Loop. The color bands on the right side of the images are the result of interaction between a tempered glass window and the polarizing filter on my camera lens.
October 14, 200717 yr I've been to that beach!! Nice shots! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 14, 200717 yr Great photos! That one with the narrow street and fire escapes is wicked! I just helped one of my friends move out of this building: I have another friend who also lives in Rogers park, so I've spent a lot of time there. Chicagoans seem to talk a lot crap about this neighborhood, but I really like it. And it's very affordable. If anyone ever visits the Chi, I reccommend parking in the Howard Park N Ride visible in the middle of rob's tour. It's just $2/day. Then just take the El downtown.... 30 mins max.
October 15, 200717 yr Nice thread! I enjoyed it. :) But damn some of the girls in this photo look mighty pissed off at you, haha!
October 15, 200717 yr ... But damn some of the girls in this photo look mighty pissed off at you, haha! They're high school girls and I'm an adult. I'd expect them to look pissed off, or at least bored, in my presence. Besides, high school girls are so self-absorbed that they undoubtedly thought I was taking a photo of them. Imagine how insulted they'd have felt if they had realized I was taking a photo of transit infrastructure with people, and they were only incidental!
October 15, 200717 yr you be amazed how many people in chicago act like they've never seen someone taking photos before....
October 17, 200717 yr I just love Chicago's collection of apartment buildings and other residential structures. Could Cincinnati just take this building a plop it down in Oakley/Hyde Park somewhere?
October 17, 200717 yr I think it actually looks just like those apartment buildings on Madison right next to Withrow.
October 17, 200717 yr you be amazed how many people in chicago act like they've never seen someone taking photos before.... ... except of their drunk friends with a camera phone. Old guys are weird, anyway, and when one of them has a big camera with a long lens ...
