Historic brewery still has fans

BY MIKE RUTLEDGE | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER

COVINGTON - Would city officials let a developer tear down the historic Bavarian Brewing Co. buildings, which most recently housed the Jillian's entertainment complex?

It's funny that this article appeared, and then the next day a suspicious arson fire breaks out there.

I haven't found out how much damage there was, but apparently it was a pretty stubborn fire.

Can they salvage the facade?

^ I read in a story today that there was only $25,000 in damage, and I believe it's all interior.  It's not enough to doom the building.

Judge holds fate of old Bavarian Brewery

Thomas argued before the judge that nothing in the city's legislation that created the historic district prohibits a building from being torn down.

The city has argued that the Urban Design Review Board's rejection of the demolition certificate was appropriate. They claim the building is marketable and that the city has the right to deny demolition in the historic district.

At stake is a city's right to protect historic buildings, said City Solicitor Frank Warnock.

"If we're not going to be able to enforce ordinances and protect historic buildings, it renders our efforts fruitless," Warnock said.

Judge's decision saves Bavarian Brewery

The fortress-like Bavarian Brewery in Covington will remain standing after a judge upheld the city's decision to block its demolition.

Kenton County Circuit Court Judge Patricia Summe ruled the city's denial of demolition permits to the building's owner, Columbia Sussex, was appropriate.

Welp... this is big news!

http://www.rcnky.com/articles/2016/07/08/kenton-county-buys-bavarian-brewery-building-will-move-government-historic-site

They will be moving from the 303 Court St: "the Fiscal Court, and all other county offices currently operating at the Kenton County Administration Building on Court Street would move to the Bavarian site."

Does anybody know what the plan is for the Court St site? I know Chase Law School had talked about moving into that building. I wonder if the County Court's move to the Bavarian Brewery is to make way for Chase to move down by the river.

How much of Bavarian Brewery building should be saved?

Scott Wartman, [email protected] 6:49 p.m. EDT September 6, 2016

Kenton County bought a vacant castle. Now the county leaders must figure out how to turn it into an administration building.

Will it save the whole fortress-like Bavarian Brewery along I-75 or will it only save portions of it?

I trust Knochelmann but I hope the others involved don't screw this up. IIRC, much of the warehouse (which I think was contemporary with the tower) was demolished after Jillian's shuttered.

With $25 million budgeted, how could you NOT save the entire thing?
