Posted October 20, 200717 yr Are employees generally happy working at 5th 3rd? I am talking about corporate as opposed to at a branch. What kind of culture is it? What is its reputation?
October 20, 200717 yr I hear there is huge focus on sales..but I would assume that's at the branch level. My guess is that would carry though corporate as well, depending on the position.
October 20, 200717 yr ^Well, whenever you work at a company that sells or provides a service.... EVERYONE'S job is to sell. You have to be a walking, talking advertisement for your company. Obviously, not to the point where it irritates people... but you've got to be ready to defend your company and sell it to new people. Especially to help ensure job security.
October 20, 200717 yr I'm sure working for a large company such as 5/3 will earn you respect for any venture that you may take on, if you decide to leave.
October 20, 200717 yr I worked for a bank at the corporate level; if 5/3rd is anything like where I worked, you're not likely to meet a more self-important bunch of people. Banks by nature are really political - you have so many levels of "big fishes in small ponds" and just about everyone has a VP before their title. It can be very cut-throat as well. As others have mentioned, you'll likely have the bank's "culture" forced down your throat and you'll be expected to sing its praises 24/7. The scariest part are the people who are thoroughly convinced (deluded?) that the bank will be around forever (along with their jobs). Mind you, I worked with some very wonderful people in spite of the environment. Good luck! :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

It really wasn't an awful place to work, but it seemed like everybody wanted to have meetings for the sole purpose of having meetings. I'm not really sure how anything was ever accomplished.
October 22, 200717 yr ........ but it seemed like everybody wanted to have meetings for the sole purpose of having meetings. ..... My sister-in-law works in a Bank and says the exact same thing.
October 22, 200717 yr Are employees generally happy working at 5th 3rd? I am talking about corporate as opposed to at a branch. What kind of culture is it? What is its reputation? Used to work there, in the Cleveland affiliate. The bank is set up in an affiliate structure, meaning there are regional CEO's, and other key decision makers. So to a certain extent the happiness of the employees depends on the culture instilled in any particular region. I can attest to the sales culture, but again, that probably depends on what division you're in. Long story short, I'd say it's no better or worse than any other bank. Most employees I worked with were content. There's always grumblings about sales goals, or how much responsibility one person should have vs another, but that's everywhere.
