Most threads are centered around news, opinions and debate which is awesome, it's why we mostly come here but it's nice to know more about forumers on a personal level. I was wondering where everyone is at in life and where they want to be.

Bah i'm in college so my goals are pretty much stagnant. I want to get involved in the ULI YLG sometime soon as I'm really interested in RED.  :-D

Are you planning on: Wanting to relocate/ move to a bigger house? Remodel? Getting married?  Change careers? Getting in shape? Catching up on reading? Looking forward to children/grand children? Planning a vacation? Higher learning? Collecting bobble heads? Building a shed similar to GrassCat's?

What's on your mind?

That's really funny - I have no idea what that means!  Want to get involved in the misspelled UGLY movement, and have chosen RED, rather than GREEN or BLUE like most folks do?

I assume they're acronyms that I just missed...

LOL

Sorry, didn't realize all the acronyms.

ULI- urban land institute

YGP--young leaders group,

RED--real estate development.

I'm hoping to spend less time on UO.

I wish I knew how to quit you.

If you find out any info on a 12 step program let me know!

In no specific order

  • Shop less (yeah, like that's really gonna happen )
  • Adopt a tax deduction
  • Spend more time with my nieces, nephews and lil cousin and be in attendance at their many, many, many activities.
  • Vacation in Bali
  • Remodel my kitchen

Adopt a tax deduction?

Adopt a tax deduction?

Adopt a child.  I thought you were quicker than that!

I know what you meant. I'm telling my future kids they weren't a mistake, they were a tax deduction.

My uncle would call us "tax deductions" when we were kids because we would call him "the accident", since he is only 7/8 years older than us.  There is like a 14 year difference between my uncle and his next sibling.  He was our baby sitter when we were younger.  We would drive him crazy back then.

sober up.

No particular order:

--Graduate

--Get a decent job in Cincinnati

--Move Downtown or OTR

--Become AICP certified

--Graduate again (grad school)

--Turn Cincinnati into the mecca of the world

sober up.

Update, I've succeeded, you guys should be happy for me.

I like the sound of that last one.

^That one is more of a mid-range plan in the 5-10 year ballpark.

That's better than a 10+ year next to the ballpark.

I think the word "mecca" is used more on UO than any other website in the world.

or maybe a website regarding islam, but I don't know, i'm not a theologists.

Hilarious

Or a theologian.

I would love to have my own design company. That's my ultimate dream. And I would love to have my own house. And a family. But that would require a lady friend. So add that one to the list, too. Hopefully more a short-term goal than a long-term on that one.

If you're looking for a "lady friend" you're so close to Hunts Point!  LMAO!!!

Hey, I do love the curves. :)

For the most part I'm content with work, love life, surroundings, etc. but it's always good to find ways to improve.

My partner and I share 3,000 sq. feet in a restored Victorian so there's no way I'd want anything larger. But now that I've been cohabitating for 6 months, I suppose there are some minor cosmetic things that could be done, like a few borders and wallpaper that we've been meaning to take down but haven't. It's not easy to find time for that kind of stuff. There are some major things we'd like to have done but I leave that up to the partner to take care of.

Career-wise, I love what I do (having been a designer for almost 15 years, I really can't fathom another line of work), and for the most part, I like where I work. Lately I've been developing a few freelance opportunities that won't pay much but are more fulfilling "fun" work. One thing I'd like to do in the near future is take my website and overhaul it - I like that it's really easy for people to get info, etc. but I suppose it needs a fresh look. I also need to think about talking to my publisher and seeing if an updated version of my book would be feasible. It's weird to think it's been almost five years since it was published and it's cool that about 3,000 copies have sold but who knows, maybe a second edition wouldn't be a bad idea?

Way to plug. :)

That reminds me I need start to develop my business plan for my "lifestyle" company.

3ksold, way to go MayDay!!

Just like design work - if you don't market yourself, no one else will. :-)

AMEN brotha MayDay, Amen!

Which begs the question, what is a lifestyle company?

there are various genres

On the client in it mostly marketing, advertising and promoting a certain lifestyle

On the consumer end is mostly helping someone achieve a certain lifestyle

I'm not sure what is meant by lifestyle.

Short term: find a new job

Long term: keep it

Get married, find a place to live, become emperor of Zanesville!  :wink2:

Short term: Graduate in the spring in DSIS; move to Louisville, Cincinnati or Pittsburgh; work.

Long term: Find a female who is interested in the outdoors, loves to hike/backpack, travel. That's hard to do :(

Take my 30 P&G years and retire!!!!

An interesting phenomenon is occuring at P&G.  Early retirement, then returning in one year as a contractor.  Immediate 10% bump in salary, plus 3% per year.

Only benefit loss is profit sharing plan which is quite substantial (22-23%), but almost worth it not to have to put up with the bullshit.  Just work when and if you want.

Contracting is fun, since you make the rules.

Dad did the same thing at AK Steel. Retired after ~30+ years of work, got bored with retirement after a few weeks, then went back as a contractor making $30,000 more than before. Less hours, greater flexibility.

Okay, you're going to have to define DSIS for me, internet told me Directorate of Scientific Information Service (Canada).

(decision support somethingeranother? data systems?)

Oops. Decision Science and Information Systems

Chain/supply management, quality/productivity control, project management, information science, data mining, etc.

Short term Goal - Have another kid.  Wow, ten years ago, I never thought I hear myself say that.

Long term Goal - Buy a new house.  Getting kind a of cramped in the present house.

Man, I hate when they ask me this question at job interviews, cuz I'm usually thinking, "My goal is to get something better ASAP so I don't have to work at this place for any longer than is absolutely necessary..."  (You're a lot less likely to get hired if you say that out loud I've found.)

But I'm pretty happy right now, finally performing full time with We Gotta Bingo at Playhouse Square and the Martini Show at Pickwick, etc. and hoping it will last as long as possible so I don't have to get a real job.

See how I managed to plug myself as well.  Hey, I refrained from posting web links at least.  :-D

I'm tryna finish these damn papers.  I hate grad school.
