Posted October 21, 200717 yr Today was absolutely beautiful (upper 70s and sunny). Since it's that time of year my partner wanted to take a little drive to pick up some pumpkins so we headed out to Peninsula (no hikes/death marches this time). Here's what I saw... Heading down Columbus Road to pick up a friend who lives in Stonebridge: Gotta say I'm proud of myself for getting this shot from a moving car on bumpy-as-can-be Franklin Avenue: Scroll--->>> Here we are at Stonebridge and the Viaduct: The landmark steeple of St. Malachi: Hodgepodge: Hi peabody! Details on the Perry-Payne Building: Two outta three ain't bad (where's Meatloaf when you need him?) C'mon guys! *groan* Partner's convertible: a good chunk of change. Having the top down on a crisp day and happily sitting in back to get skyline shots: priceless :-) Scroll again! Mittal Steel: This view shows some gaps but it was always the view I had in my formative years so I still have a soft spot for it: Oh god, it's the Mason-Dixon line! Oh god, after this it's all the 'burbs! But at least the leaves are changing color! Yeah, a talented person used to Manhattan or the Loop would jump at the chance to work in a place like this  See those trees in the background? They used to come all the way up to the road - but to h#ll with trees, they have ample parking!!! Enough of the exurban vomit: In case you wondered how the site of the former Richfield Coliseum was doing: Finally we make it to Peninsula - pretty busy, but not surprising given the weather: Quaint shops but the vehicles remind that the wealth of the 'burbs isn't far away: Charming architecture, loads of cyclists, pedestrian-friendly... why don't we get it outside of this place? After a quick lunch at Fishers Cafe, it's over to Szalay's Farm Market: This place was packed with kids, parents, oblivious people - not unlike the West Market's produce arcade on a Saturday morning. So we dashed in, got the goods and headed back. This is a place my parents would love (not my cup of tea but it's charming): And just up the road, it's Wisteria Lane for the budget-minded: 21 miles too far: Beautiful skies: Yeah, try to recruit an urban-minded person to a place like this - hey, at least you can see it from the freeway! WWJD? He probably wouldn't 1. locate in an affluent 'burb and 2. tear down healthy trees to build a church and 3. locate said church in a place inaccessible to the poor. But what do I know? Speaking of - I see tall buildings, praise the lord! It's chintzy architecture, but it does have a cool "reveal"... Too bad my camera wouldn't focus in time :x But it's good to be back in the city where I belong: I'll take it, warts and all: Alright, bring it on home! Have a good night, and for the love of all that's holy - GO TRIBE!!! :whip: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 21, 200717 yr Nice. There's something about those old, shabby houses that I just love so much. Very nice country pics. Could've done without the suburban bleh. :)
October 21, 200717 yr Nice. There's something about those old, shabby houses that I just love so much. Agreed... They make cool photos if nothing else.
October 22, 200717 yr MayDay, I rode the trail from Akron to Cleve. today. I noticed that Szalay's was a madhouse. I was going to check it out, but too many kids! Thanks for the pics.
October 22, 200717 yr really nice pics. That corn/pumpkin farm gets crazy. we did a similar southerly run on the scooters today, but went sw on riverview rd to Chippewa creek rd through Cuyahoga National Valley which was amazing b/c of all the maple trees (which have the best color) are at peak and we saw tons of deer. No crowds. We then went up through the Metro Park reservations (mill stream, Rocky river ,etc), which were more crowded...I hate to sound like a dork, but what a gem our parks are. I will say it again: how lucky are we to have urban and natural beauty so easily accessable? The day ended with an afternoon sandwich and brew at Melt -why on earth it took us this long to try this place I do not know.
October 22, 200717 yr ^Ah yes, Melt... ain't it great! Yeah, Szalays was really busy thus we grabbed the first decent pumpkins we saw and bolted. The original plan was to go to Burton but we were on a time crunch so Peninsula it was. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 22, 200717 yr It certainly was a beautiful weekend across the Great Lakes. We had those blue skies here in Chicago as well, though the leaves still aren't very colorful here in the city. The majority of trees are still green. Thanks for the great pics! Cleveland & Peninsula both looked great. :)
October 22, 200717 yr Awesome pics! I love Peninsula, used to work for the Summit County Metroparks, so I did a lot of hiking down in that area. Hey, thanks for posting a pic of the billboard for my new show at Playhouse Square, We Gotta Bingo! (P.S. That's not me in the picture, just FYI...)
