May 20, 20214 yr The new patio / canopy wrapping around the corner of W 6th & St Clair for Acqua di Luca is looking amazing!! This will be the perfect spot to relax outside and enjoy some delicious food. What a change and enhancement from before! See also: In a follow-up Tweet, Luca shared that they plan to open in 2-3 weeks!

Glad to see it be upgraded and put back to great use.

They have been doing this is the DC area, too. Sidewalks that once comfortably accommodated the pedestrian traffic are being fenced off for outdoor cafes with the pedestrianls forced into single-file passageways. Somehow it works much better in Paris. Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
May 20, 20214 yr I think it would be pretty obnoxious on a street that is busy with other pedestrian uses, but W. 6th is just a strip of bars and restaurants anyway. It's deserted when those aren't busy. Friday and Saturday night they shut the street down half the time and maybe they should just make that standard.
May 20, 20214 yr I understand people dining al fresco don't want pedestrians walking into their table. But something like a chain or rope that can be removed when not needed might be a better option IMO. Edited May 20, 20214 yr by skiwest
May 20, 20214 yr If you are going to serve alcohol, you need permanent fencing. It has nothing to do with pedestrians walking into tables.

June 7, 20214 yr This is turning out to be one of the nicest patios in Downtown. Absolutely beautiful!

A very inviting space. And I'm sure the comment, "it looks very New York" is overused - but, it really does! Hope the place is packed on a regular basis! Edited June 8, 20214 yr by CleveFan
June 8, 20214 yr Awesome! Looks beautiful and will be a lot nicer when there isn't a parking lot across the street. Perhaps Blue Point will take note and remodel one day with a patio!

June 8, 20214 yr Hopefully we will someday see establishments like that on W 6th all the way up to Superior.

All the other projects are only proposals at this point. Are some of these proposed projects more definite and forthcoming than expected? 2 minutes ago, cadmen said: A somewhat cryptic comment Ken. Are you intimating some of the already announced plans for development around SHW may be getting started OR something new? I'm referring to SHW, to Magellan and to something brewing. And consider that the TMUD will soon make many big projects pencil for the first time, including some that haven't yet seen the light of day. I wasn't sure how firm the Magellan project was, but if you are confident in that and the project brewing than maybe we're cooking!

October 7, 20213 yr Lighthouse Steps park to officially break ground this spring!! This will be an awesome addition to the neighborhood. Elements include an overhead “light bar,” swing benches, planters/enhanced landscaping, new decking/seating, and the preserved historic Lighthouse Steps/wall.
October 7, 20213 yr ^This is on W. 9 and what? Is this just sidewalk/walkway improvements? Its hard to tell!

Right in front of the parking lot on W9th, near the intersection of Main Ave. Here’s a view of the current site. And yes - streetscape improvements PLUS the creation of an entirely new public space, where none currently exists. Will be an awesome new little pocket park!
October 7, 20213 yr I'm pretty sure the plan for Lighthouse is different, but there's a former lot and current park/event space in downtown San Diego, The Quartyard, that would be a roaring success here in the Warehouse Dist:
November 30, 20213 yr There was some reno action going on this morning in the vacant first floor office space of 1235 W. 6th (The Hat Factory building). Would love to hear if anyone knows what's happening there-- I'll follow up if I find anything out.

November 30, 20213 yr Maybe renovation was too strong a word... anyways there are workers in there, and the property manager just told me that the new tenant is in the architecture/design business.

February 3, 20223 yr A few new restaurant announcements - Agave & Rye to go into the former Bar Louie space, and Filter to open soon in the Perry Payne Building:

February 3, 20223 yr Seems like a lot of the restaurant openings in this area could be related to the SW Building. Not that they're moving all that far, but in a +/- a year there will be alot more people "across the street" from these new places!!
