March 3, 200718 yr I hope this condo tower is a big success..and is just the first of several they can stick into that area along/nearby/overlooking the river. I like how it (together with Miranova to the south) help the downtown skyline form more of a semicircle around teh Scioto Peninsula. It seems that the only things left on the Scioto Peninsula are COSI, Vets Memorial, and the old depot/turned into the firefighter center thing(forget actually what it is called). All the rest of the land is vacant or surface parking. I wonder what they have in store for that?
March 14, 200718 yr Hey all, I finally was able to make it home to snap some new shots of the tower. I think they have only one more floor to complete before it is finished. How exciting. I am only bummed out because I picked the worst day ever to take the pictures. I thought about going on Sunday when it was BEAUTIFUL out but I heard that Monday was supposed to be just as beautiful. So I stuck with my original plan to meet my aunt downtown for lunch and then take pictures afterward. I was disapointed the whole day. But anyway, these are just to show the progress, which I am really happy with.
March 14, 200718 yr i like the new condo and all, but can we get more of'em real quick? i mean those high st. buildings in the background...eck. cover'em up with more arena district condos please:
March 14, 200718 yr acctually, I believe all those are garages and one of them, I believe the one on the far left is going to be covered soon by something. There seems to be some construction. Now if you are talking about the Nationwide Towers and The William Green Building which are acctually on High St, why would you want to cover those up?
March 14, 200718 yr ^ no, not the pen area stuff, i amsure there will be more to come there. yes i meant the latter, the high street trio there. i dont want to cover them up so much as i wish they were never built.
March 14, 200718 yr I like the tower and all, but it would be nice if this kind of development were filling in the CBD area. Creating a good strong cluster of high-rises. Either way though...a new residential high-rise is really cool!

March 15, 200718 yr Are you guys serioius? They're gorgeous! OK, I only really like William Green Building.
March 15, 200718 yr Author acctually, I believe all those are garages and one of them, I believe the one on the far left is going to be covered soon by something. There seems to be some construction. You are correct. The crane on the left is the spot where Lifestyle Communities' new headquarters is going to be built. Also, on the other side of the photo, Nationwide is wrapping up work on their new building, which covers another garage. i like the new condo and all, but can we get more of'em real quick? i mean those high st. buildings in the background...eck. Aww, I always liked the William Green Building (third to the right of the three). I like the tower and all, but it would be nice if this kind of development were filling in the CBD area. That's what RiverSouth is supposed to be for ;-). And while it may look far away from the photos, the North Bank Condos are less than half a mile away from High St. Think of the Arena District as the Northern Kentucky of Columbus ;-). I know, I know, that's a stretch, but work with me here! And lastly, nicely done on the photo update. Looking forward to its completion.
March 15, 200718 yr I just got a shiny new DSLR, so once the weather cooperates, I'll post some updates. They're basically topping the thing off now.
March 15, 200718 yr Man... Nationwide works really fast! They knocked the 20 stories out like it was 4. We need Nationwide behind every project in C-Bus. Now we need the Main St. Bridge to make some progress, the new Ballpark, and the courthouse!
March 15, 200718 yr Think of the Arena District as the Northern Kentucky of Columbus So so true. Or to take it a step further, it's The Banks That Actually Got Built. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
March 15, 200718 yr Think of the Arena District as the Northern Kentucky of Columbus So so true. Or to take it a step further, it's The Banks That Actually Got Built. I know where and how the Arena District relates to downtown Cbus, but thanks for the unnecessary dumbed-down descriptions...especially ColDay. Its not like the Banks at all, but I appreciate the jab! The Banks is an entire project that will be built by one single developer/owner. Whereas the Arena District has evolved organically over the years since the arena was built. I am looking at the core of downtown as being around the statehouse. That may be wrong for me to assume, but the Arena District is about 6 blocks away from the statehouse...the Banks is located about 2.5 blocks from Fountain Square. Nky...yes, Banks...no
March 15, 200718 yr awww man. i was so hoping for the banks to someday be better than the generic arena district (although the ad is sure getting better with stuff like this cool condo tower).

There is no "core" in downtown Columbus. There's the Civic Center/Statehouse, the Nationwide Complex/Convention Center, and then there's the Arena District/North Market club area. B). Yes, it is like The Banks (mixed-use retail, residential, commercial with focal points being a sports complex). Need I remind you that the Arena District was Nationwide's pet project, thus it was once a single developer that did it which then became organic. Hopefully, The Banks turn that way as well. March 16, 200718 yr A. I know there is no true core to downtown Cbus, but for the sake of my comparison I choose the statehouse as the best spot for Cbus' "core". B. Well hey, if anything that has a sports venue and mixed use is equivalent to the Banks then the majority of cities across the county have that going on. Hmmm and I thought a project like that was special...apparently not. I would rather not get into some lengthy debate with you over this. I don't know why everyone got so defensive from this comment: I like the tower and all, but it would be nice if this kind of development were filling in the CBD area. Creating a good strong cluster of high-rises. Either way though...a new residential high-rise is really cool! I didn't mean for that to be a backhanded compliment, but it seemed as though people took it that way. I think the tower is cool, and will be a great addition to Cbus, is it wrong for me to desire a more clustered urban environment for downtown Cbus?? I would think most Cbus people would want the same thing...maybe I'm wrong :|
March 16, 200718 yr A. I know there is no true core to downtown Cbus, but for the sake of my comparison I choose the statehouse as the best spot for Cbus' "core". You shouldn't. Otherwise, you might as well pick the Riverfront for Cincinnati's "core." B. Well hey, if anything that has a sports venue and mixed use is equivalent to the Banks then the majority of cities across the county have that going on. Hmmm and I thought a project like that was special...apparently not. No one has said the Arena District is "special." It's been a great thing for Columbus (and other cities) to have and it's a shame The Banks haven't come into fruitation yet. I didn't mean for that to be a backhanded compliment, but it seemed as though people took it that way. I would think most Cbus people would want the same thing...maybe I'm wrong You don't understand. We "get" what you are saying and I (and I'm sure others) personally agree that the tower would've been suited for a parking lot in the actual business downtown section...BUT...it isn't and is part of the Arena District and I actually like the tower (rare for me to like any new "tower") so I'm gonna just take it. Much like the Adams Landing (or whatever they are called these days) towers in the East End of Cincinnati. Sure, they could've been downtown, but they aren't and they look fine across from Montgomery Inn. March 27, 200718 yr Some pix I took today of progress on the North Bank Condos. Man, this thing is going to be tall! I think they've reached what will be the top floor. Notice that they have begun putting up the glass exterior of the main tower. Going to be e primo address.... provided one can afford it.

March 27, 200718 yr That's what I was guessing but just wanted to make sure. BTW, thanks for the pictures!
March 30, 200718 yr Author Lovely! Thanks, everyone, for the progress photos. I still have yet to see an evergreen on the top of the building, but given the progress being made, I'm imagine one will show up soon.

May 21, 200718 yr I still can't believe it's going up there! The last time I drove through there, all there was was a dirt lot! Now they need to shrink down that four-lane "boulevard" to three lanes, and install a nice wide bike lane :)

June 25, 200717 yr Claiming new territory At 10 years old, the Arena District is filling in and moving beyond Monday, June 25, 2007 5:30 AM By Mike Pramik THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Ten years ago this month, Nationwide drew up plans to turn the former Ohio Penitentiary site into the Arena District. Since then, Nationwide Realty Investors, the insurer's real-estate division, has executed most of the master plan for the 75-acre Downtown tract. It says it has expanded the concept, and the work isn't finished yet. Nationwide Realty has developed 1.4 million of a planned 1.5 million square feet of commercial space in the district. It has about met its initial target of 350 residential units. And, of course, it pulled off Nationwide Arena, where the National Hockey League just wrapped up its 2007 draft. June 25, 200717 yr Arena District is great, I hope Cleveland's downtown megaprojects can be so successful and attractive. I had no idea that it was so skewed towards office, though. 1.4 million sq ft is a lot more office space than I would have guessed, and 350 units is less housing than I would have guessed .
June 25, 200717 yr Author Here's an updated map of the structures that have risen, are under construction, or are proposed in the Arena District. Happy 10th birthday!
June 25, 200717 yr It may also wind up being the location for a Columbus intermodal station for the Ohio Hub and other rail and transit services. Re: Housing. What the map doesn't adequately show is that there is still a lot of land to the West of the District and that will likely see the development of even more housing.
