In most of Nashville you can't do anything underground because of the super hard rock just underneath the surface.

And a lot of those parking decks are painfully obvious from the street level.

This is the most annoying thing. I’m not 100% opposed to having parking decks, but just make the damn things look nice. It isn’t hard to hide them in a way that makes it just look like apartments.

I think the best way to hide a garage is with liner units. This is dependent on the lot depth since there are dimensionality requirements for a garage. It seems like the Arshot project might have room.

I'm no expert on this, but given it's proximity to the river(s), do they really have much of an option to dig down?  Wouldn't they hit the water table?  Didn't they run into this with Ohio Stadium?  I'm just not sure if digging far down geographically where this is is an option.  Again, I'm not an engineer, but my logic based on other developments along the river suggest this.

Both Ohio Stadium and Lower.com built secant walls around the perimeter to keep the ground water out and protect the fields.

Remember the Arshot project next to Lower.com got canned because too many retention ponds were required.

The garage behind COSI is underground. Seems like at least a couple levels underground would be possible.

really wish these had ground floor retail.

Not every street needs, or can support retail. Vine is basically a freeway off ramp at this location.

What ever happened to Corso opening up multiple restaurants on the ground floor of  the AC hotel? Haven’t heard anything about it in awhile.

The bro club scene isn’t doing well in that area. Probably having a hard time actually understanding what type of business should go in that area.

FCCFA-owned venues to receive $27.5M in upgrades in 2025

I enjoyed this little tidbit of information from the article.

Also among the capital expenditure plans, the authority will invest $500,000 in the former Granero space at 51 Vine St. "to repurpose for a better use" with a vision that is still evolving, Ken Paul, FCCFA executive director, said during the meeting. The shuttered nightclub is located within the Vine Street parking garage.

I'm not gonna say these are the nicest apartments ever but overall the design looks pretty good and like it will last a while.

I do have one issue though and that's the road. It's way too wide here. Need some sort of landscaped median with trees to break things up a bit.

Those little linear parks that help break up a street to separate opposing directions of traffic need to become more of a thing in the Midwest.

Interesting article from 10TV about future renovations coming to Nationwide Arena. I personally am excited about some of these upgrades and would love to see a new scoreboard added to the arena. What kind of upgrades do you want to see?

I know it won’t happen, but I think the ground floor should have retail and businesses facing nationwide blvd. Make it activated all times and all days. If the county and taxes pay for it, it should benefit the neighborhood even more.

Wasn't the scoreboard updated before the 2015 NHL Allstar game? I think it looks good still.

I've heard them talk about renovations, but Nationwide Arena is constantly rated as one of the top NHL stadiums even with lackluster on ice performance.

Besides some updates to concession stands and larger tv's in the concourses I think the stadium looks fantastic.

It was updated in 2012 for the 2013 NHL All Star Game that was cancelled due to the lockout. While it is still a nice scoreboard it is definitely on the lower end of the league, especially in size.

Nationwide is now 25 years old. More than a few cities have built new arenas with less rings around the tree than that. Also new arenas are around a billion dollars. Maybe the $400M they're talking about is a deal but soon they'll have to start thinking about a new arena and possible new location.

It also said Columbus has lost out on conventions to cities with upgraded arenas, so it is a need. Columbus doesn’t have massive tourism dollars like many other cities so convention dollars are 100% needed.

Okay, I get it--It's a play on the time 2:29! Just make sure when hosting/inviting to be clear. Don't say the party's at Two Twenty Vine, then turn around and say it's at 6:30. You'll confuse people.

#1 10TV’s website just about killed my older iPad with all those feeds and ad downloads 😬

#2 The experience at NWA is so good. It’s a classy arena inside and out. Built at the same time as the Schott, Nationwide is better by tenfold, and more. IMO.

I have a 60 year old home that’s required some upgrades. If I want to spend the money, I can make it look brand new again. My thought (and hope) is that’s what this $400mm renovation does… Takes it to where newcomers might think it was a new build. And keeps it right where it is, near the convention center, short north, arena district, downtown!

I think a mixed use hotel/condos/ retail would be prefect for the corner of Nationwide & Neil. Overlooking the ballpark and 1 block from the arena. All the new apartments/condos built in the district have zero retail space so the neighborhood definitely could use a pick me up!

I'd be happy with some new seats. EVERY time we go to an event, at least one of us has a seat with gum or old crusty nacho cheese on it. Some better concessions would also be nice. From a hockey perspective it would also be cool if there were some standing room only sections with a view of the ice.

There is standing room behind section 101, 113-116. I do believe during the playoffs they sell standing room only tickets.

Concession stands definitely do need to be upgraded.

They should go the way of the Atlanta Falcons concession and make the items super affordable. I’m sure they would end up making more money off the concessions.

For the sake of bars/restaurants in the area, I hope this doesn't happen. I want people to be incentivized to buy food and drinks outside of the stadium in order to increase the demand for local businesses.

I said "possible" new location. it would take at least 4 years to raze and rebuild an arena on the same spot.

No one will rebuild it makes no sense to. We don't need a larger one, and arenas can only be configured so many ways.

Let me make one final comment. The current location of Nationwide is ideal for so many reasons, but at some point in the future it will have to be replaced. Since Gordon Gee is no longer OSU president, maybe when that day comes, they can strike a deal with the new regime at Ohio State to share the VCA while Nationwide is demoed and rebuilt on the same location.  Let's wait and see what $400M gets us. Maybe the improvements will keep Nationwide in the forefront for decades to come, I hope so. But I was referring to the day when it's over for the arena and a new one is needed.

If the arena was built well, which it sounds like it was, interior renovations and updates are probably all it will ever need. The only reason it would ever be completely demoed is if there was demand for tens of thousands of more seats.

The shoe is a good example of that. It can have upgrades made to it while still being 100 years old.

Yeah you don't have such a sea change with a building built years after the ADA passed like you do with really old ones.

Those areas inside the stadium along Nationwide are super duper functional, it can't change. That's where all the stairwell emergency exits spit out for fire safety and all that.

I’d take a nationwide project only because they move quickly with them and they are typically built well, albeit boring.
