Posted November 4, 200717 yr so my lease is bout to be up and i just wanted to see if i could get some info from anyone who lives in downtown cleveland what would i be lookin at minimum for a studio apartment ? the places i know of are reserve square, bridgeview, huron square, statler arms (seems nice), bridgeview, the chesterfield, bingham......the rest slip my mind right now. seems like minimum would be $700 for a small studio plus you have to deal with leases and deposits. i need somethin flexible id rather be in a hood neighborhood so i dont think im gonna move downtown but wanted to weigh options. eventually id live to live downtown. might be movin out of cleveland altogether with though with wherever i live it has to be near an RTA rapid stop, a grocery store, places to eat, CVS/walgreens, other daily conveniences i might be buyin a crib in EC, hough, or glenville ...or rent in those areas
November 4, 200717 yr what about Shaker Square? It has easy access to downtown, and pretty close to glenville et al. Reserve square DT has short term leases I think. Out of curiosity that defines a "hood" neighborhood? please clarify.
November 4, 200717 yr Nearly any reputable landlord is going to require a lease and deposit. The exception would be extended stay hotels/corporate housing, or someone's brother's cousin's ex roommate who has this place he's looking to get filled. You might try Milton Manor, they are less expensive, I don't know about their lease/deposit policy, though I think remember that they may do short term or month to month. I think it may qualify as a flophouse, but see my above comments about reputable. I don't have the number off hand, but you can probably find it in the phone book or google it. If you are ok with small units, you may try the apts above the Downtown YMCA- Heritage Suites. It would be like living in a dorm, but they do 6 month leases and are relatively inexpensive.

November 5, 200717 yr what about Shaker Square thats where i live thanks for the info so far im lookin at heritage suites right now.........is it just for CSU students? seems like a good deal $425/month with free utilities
November 5, 200717 yr It's not just for students, though they make up the majority of the residents there. The prices are good, but the units are very small. Like I said, think of a dorm room, but not just for college students. They are fairly recently restored, in about 1999. In fact, I lived there for a year, and was the first person to live in my unit post restore. It is awesome having the Y downstairs, if you are into fitness. They are nice units, and well managed, at least when I was there, but that was 8 years ago now. The size is the main downside, and they are a bit out of the Downtown action, which cuts both ways.
November 5, 200717 yr yea......if its like a dorm i dont think i wanna live there. the ymca would be cool if i could actually afford a membership......theres a few apartments DT that have fitness centers like the chesterfield. i dont need a huge space but if i can get somethin better for the same price why not what i was lookin for was one of those side by side brick apartment duplexes....the ones with the front porches and right up to the street maybe e. 30s 40s st clair/superior/payne ......i wouldnt be near the rapid though i wish RTA would extend the rapid lines in the city to cover more neighborhoods
November 5, 200717 yr There are few, if any, of those brown brick fourplexes in the E. 30-40's area. It is almost all cottage style homes, or lofts in converted warehouses. There may be a few apts in houses, or above storefronts, though. re: Heritage Suites, Y membership would be complementary if you live there. Mind that when I say "dorm-like" I just mean size, units have there own bathrooms and kitchens. Some have seperate bedrooms, though they are more than $425. You may try looking along Prospect. There are older apt buildings along to the stretch between 30th and 55th. I don't know about prices, and would actually be curious to know if you find out. Still far from the rapid, though.
November 6, 200717 yr Still far from the rapid, though. But not far from the Bus Rapid Transit (Silver Line on Euclid). "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 7, 200717 yr i know that......i meant those separately not implyin the plexes were in that area. EC has quite a few of them but thats kinda far from DT i'll investigate prospect, maybe head down there this week and see whats good and who the hell cares about the bus rapid transit.....a bus is a bus a bus is a bus is a bus. if its not a train its not a train. they should call euclid the opportunity corridor squandered

November 12, 200717 yr Statler basically has no availability through the rest of the year... I guess that's why they were such busters about raising my rent. My unit will be available as soon as I find a new place, although I can no longer recommend moving into the building.
November 20, 200717 yr does anyone know of good websites besides cleveland.com, rent.com, clevelandrent.com, clevelandrental.com ??? lookin for brick plexes or rowhouses
November 20, 200717 yr does anyone know of good websites besides cleveland.com, rent.com, clevelandrent.com, clevelandrental.com ??? lookin for brick plexes or rowhouses did you try apartments.com?
November 21, 200717 yr did you try apartments.com? yea i did.....nothin there really pluggedincleveland doesnt have much either....theres 1 apt but too far away from things and doesnt include utilities ^ IMHO, you have to hit the pavement to see the good places. true.....most of the stuff the sign is on the place with the #. i dont wanna be wanderin around every neighborhood though
November 21, 200717 yr CTownsFinest, there's a house on E. 33rd for rent that I know of. Pretty traditional double, newly renovated. It's just north of Superior, so you'd have access to downtown via the 326. The rent rate was pretty reasonable from what I recall.
December 12, 200717 yr Thought this was pretty neat. http://www.cleveland.com/living/photos/ Too bad there couldn't be a section exclusive to downtown living phoro this on Cleveland.com to promote the downtown city living lifestyle.

That wasn't very much of a "tour" :| I'm really bad with the buildings (locations and names) in Cleveland. Does anyone know what building that guy lives in? I'm thinking he lives in the apartment building next to the Pinnacle?
December 12, 200717 yr Apartments in Detroit Shoreway are pretty reasonable. Plus, the #326 Detroit-Superior bus line is great (well I guess now it is the #26 Detroit). It runs frequently, very late, and its a straight shot into central lakewood or downtown Cleveland.

I believe this is the same unit in the photos on their website: http://www.eriebuilding.com/
