Damn ... that place looks amazing! It's funny how the public seem to maneuver around streetcars as if they were bikes ... I cannot wait till we have ours up and running!

The density & architecture, pedestrian vibrancy, and beautiful setting all make for an amazing city.  I really need to visit there one of these days. (just wish French were spoken there instead of German... I could probably get by a little easier speaking French)

So good.  Great pics.

Gee. Spaghetti Factory and Starbucks!? at least there are a LOT of bikes!

I love your photos.

Damn...this makes me hot in the pants!

great shots of a beautiful city.

that made me laugh.  thats damn funny.  im gonna use that all the time now.

On an unrelated note......Damn ColDay, Zurich looks awesome.  These pictures made me hot in my pants.

What an awesome city. I want to go!

"...make me hot in my pants"?

Those bicycles did it for me. Then the metro map. Then the walkable streets. Then the dense developments.

I'll need a few days.

Sigh, please take me traveling with you!!!

Beautiful.  I just love those pedestrian streets.

very nice job -- good to know you can build a fine lookin city off the stolen loot and gold teeth of dead people....aww but we won't go there with that world war two stuff!  :whip:

i was surprized to see a little graffiti, i'd have thought that stuff would not be there.

and seriously how would we like to have that metro map superimposed over a map of columbus? there are fantasy sports leagues i wonder if there is a fantasy transit league?

If I hadn't read the title of this thread I'd have though you were doing a photo thread on Easton!  ;)

Graffiti is very much prevalent over in Europe, but it's rapidly cleaned up it seems. When I did some traveling over there, I was amazed at the _lack of_ graffiti, but the guide told us that the owners have penalties for not cleaning up marred surfaces. I don't know how true that is, but it would explain the lack of graffiti over there.

^ i meant particularly in zurich, i assumed it was a very hyper tidy place.

I think owners should be responsible for cleaning up graffiti if it is on their property.  The city and volunteer groups can only do so much.  If property owners take pride in (or are forced to maintain) the appearances of their property, the city as a whole benefits.

Actually those pics just made me mad. To see a place that has embraced mass transit, mixed use, density, bicycle and pedestrian travel and then think how much effort we go through in this region (and most of the US) just to get developers and communities to build sidewalk/bike paths and plant some trees in the walmart parking lot. We sure have a long ways to go in most of the US.

Beautiful photos, dense, lively city!

Must be something in the chocolate... :-D  Seriously, I'm sure they have their fair share of sprawl and other ills but when you view these picks and realize that they haven't abandoned their towns like we have and continuously building sprawl it's no wonder that the swiss always rank highly in terms of quality of life, income, etc. they don't squander their national wealth by continuously building junk like we do.

Nice pics.

Lovely, just lovely!

  • 3 years later...

Beautiful!

...and unlike a certain other European capital, Zürich's subterranean transit system isn't saturated with the stench of fermented piss.

LOL!  Don't be hatin' on my Par-ree!

Talk about a beautiful city--OMG, this is one!  Thanks but no thanks for making me envious of a fairyland I can't have for my very own! (oh, the pain...)  Zurich should be the model for all American wannabe urban areas; its compact density is delightful!

Wow, those pictures make me hot in my pants.
