Last Thursday, I participated in a Planning Charrette for World Town Planning Day 2007 in the City of Mount Healthy. An inner-ring suburb of Cincinnati, Mt. Healthy is approximately one square mile and is home to a bit less than 7,000 people. While their main drag, Hamilton Avenue is clogged with traffic, few vacancies exist along its small business district. The city's housing is extremely diverse, historic, and well maintained. All-in-all, Mt. Healthy is pretty...well...healthy when it comes to inner-ringers.

By the way, it used to be called Mt. Pleasant, but was renamed because it escaped the cholera epidemic.

I love the street lights and the traffic signal masts, but holy crap, it doesn't do that much if you have wire city in the way :(

Nice! It looks quaint, cute & fairly busy.

seicer speaks the truth.

The problem with Mt. Healthy is they vote down every school levy and thus the schools stink.

They did vote to build three new schools and the district will save about $450,000 every year in operations from that. Part of the problem is that the district is so small (about 7 square miles) and property values are such that a mil only raises less than half what most school districts receive, so their levies have to be for a high milage.

this district NEEDS new schools.  When I used to work for a window shade company, I took down all the window shades in every Mt. Healthy school, cleaned them, repaired them, and re-installed them.  Ugh, that job sucked.  The schools (not all of them, but some of them) were in need of a makeover.

Nice job!

Nice pics, the building in the 3rd pic is rather sexy

Cute except for the mess of wires....that's not bad enough, but the poles go everywhich way.

Just to correct an earlier assertion, an operating levy for Mt. Healthy schools also passed.  I don't recall exactly when it was, but it was within the couple of years.

A couple of the buildings in the business district were part of the Underground Railroad.

Also, the housing in the city is rather eclectic.  There really aren't parts that look like they were all built at the same time.

Oh...and I got hammered at the bar in the 3rd pic on my 21st birthday.

The Methodist Church is unforgivably ugly, but the rest of the town looks pretty good.

Thanks Ink, you know I always like to see the churches ...

Grasscat, Vince's sponsored my high school bowling team.  Also, "Mt. Healthy's Finest Saloon" might be better described as its brightest.  It's practically like being in a White Castle in that place compared to most bars.

Vince's recently added an outdoor porch for smokers.  I guess the folding chairs by the side door weren't a good enough option.
