July 25, 200816 yr I do remember hearing talks about potential water taxis between Cincinnati and Nky. I think these would be in the second phase where there is better loading/launching points into the Ohio River. Anything that boosts recreational use of the water is a BIG, BIG bonus for Cincinnati. That river is our asset, we have to embrace it.
July 25, 200816 yr I have not been a Ham Cty Fair goer in the past but could this be done here or am I off my rocker? http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16838.0.html
July 26, 200816 yr I don't think that this could work well at the CRP, but it isn't a bad idea. I certainly like it more than the Crosby Twp. idea. With that said, the CRP will be owned/operated by the City of Cincinnati and I'm not sure if that would pose an issue or not for the Hamilton County Fair where they seem to be looking for county-owned land to use.

July 28, 200816 yr ^Good points...I didn't think about that, but then again I may have only been to 1 fair in my entire life.

The Hamilton County fair, like every fair in the State of Ohio, is first and foremost an agricultural fair. I don't know if attendance would be better in Crosby Township, but certainly Crosby Township is as rural as Hamilton County gets.
August 7, 200816 yr There is a new YouTube video put together by the Cincinnati Park Board about the Central Riverfront Park (or as this video calls it...the Cincinnati Riverfront Park). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9DGWsz9igU
August 7, 200816 yr And here is another YouTube video talking about the September 29th official groundbreaking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MiF3iGa-vE&hl=en&fs=1
August 7, 200816 yr Actually that's a fantastic pic of the city because I want to do an illustration of what Cincy will look like in the year 2120. Thanks J!
August 7, 200816 yr I always wonder what the Banks and Riverfront Park will look like on Bengals game days. Obviously, the Banks and the Park will remove dozens of acres of prime tailgating real estate. Tailgaters will have to use the downtown lots more and obviously the already packed Longworth Hall lot will be even more jammed. I think this creates an opportunity to do something truly unique in the Banks and the Park that isnt seen elsewhere in the NFL. The city could set up Oktoberfest style vending inviting people to park downtown and party at the Park and in the Banks rather than being tied to their cars.
August 7, 200816 yr Black Bengal, could you imagine if we still had the Cincinnati Royals too? jeeeeeeeeesh talk about an entertainment hotspot. Our riverfront would be a mad house.

Obviously, the Banks and the Park will remove dozens of acres of prime tailgating real estate. Tailgaters will have to use the downtown lots more and obviously the already packed Longworth Hall lot will be even more jammed. I have suggested that the streets, throughout The Banks, be closed off to vehicular traffic when the Bengals have home games. The same could be done with the Reds, but we're talking 81 days vs. 10 days. You could close off just Main Street (like now) for Reds games. This would all be VERY unique...especially for football.
August 7, 200816 yr That music on the YouTube video of the Banks groundbreaking is atrocious. Couple that with the random Kentucky Wildcats jersey in the clip and I wanted to vomit.
August 28, 200816 yr I saw a billboard on 75 SB, near the Lockland exit, that had an image of the park-space between PBS and GABP that said something like "Join us for the Groundbreaking" ... I had to do a double-take. Anyone else see it? Or anywhere else?
September 24, 200816 yr Citys New Front Yard Ready to be Planted By: pulseOn: 09/23/2008 11:04:30In: Cover StoryComments: 0 By R. Scott Teets [email protected] CINCINNATI It's been a long wait. But the dream of building a world-class park at the city's river edge is about to become a reality. http://www.pulsedt.com/blogs/default.asp?Display=2763
September 24, 200816 yr Does anyone know the location of this first phase other than around Mehring way? Will it be south of Mehring and east of Roebling?
September 24, 200816 yr I think its safe to assume it's east of the bridge, or that big block right there. My question is if the proposed cafe(s) will be open for business on the park prior to Phase 1's businesses in 2010. If so, what a great way to start bringing people down there. Is there a projected timeline for this first phase?
September 24, 200816 yr Wow. This sounds really great. My favorite part: The project will generate substantial traffic that will benefit businesses and gives us a great opportunity for creating a 24-hour city.
September 24, 200816 yr My question is: When will the realignment of Mehring way take place? It seems to me that it would all have to be done at once or else it wont connect. It also seems like it has to be done in order to do ANY of the work for phase 1 of the park.
September 24, 200816 yr The first phase of this park is the area east of Roebling. It will be the full area from the river north to where phase 1 of The Banks will be. The timeline for phase 1 of this park and phase 1 of The Banks is similar. This is the reason why they are starting there vs the more westerly portions of the park.
September 29, 200816 yr Work to start on new riverfront park, called the city's front yard http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080928/NEWS01/80928006
September 29, 200816 yr Didn't Steve Chabot vote against the bill that ultimately was passed and provided funding for this park? If that's the case then why should he be included in any ceremonies at all. You did nothing to help the cause and could have hurt the chances of this park becoming reality.
September 29, 200816 yr ^Yea, he's a bum!! Essentially, this is the same article with a few different paragraphs. New park digging to begin Waterfalls, gardens and more beside river http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080929/NEWS01/809290318
September 29, 200816 yr Chabot is in the wrong city with the way he thinks things should happen. Period.
September 29, 200816 yr Bengals kick in $250,000 for riverfront park http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2008/09/29/daily9.html The Cincinnati Bengals surprised Cincinnati Park Board officials with a corporate check for $250,000 to help pay for the city’s new Cincinnati Riverfront Park delivered minutes before the park’s ground breaking Monday.
September 29, 200816 yr “Now baseball season is over, football season is over,” Portune said to laughter from the crowd, before the Bengals’ check was presented. “But we still know anything is possible, and a sense of optimism still permeates the air.” After that, they could have said, "Oh yeah? Well, we're outta here, and we're taking our check with us!"
September 29, 200816 yr Another Point of View on the Park http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080929/EDIT02/809290330/1019/EDIT
September 29, 200816 yr ^ I didn't realize there was a plan for the land in front of PBS and GABP. That's good to know.
September 29, 200816 yr ^ I didn't realize there was a plan for the land in front of PBS and GABP. That's good to know. I questioned some guy from the Park Board exactly what their plan is to connect the CRP to the other riverfront parks stretching east. They have long said it is a high priority to connect all of them together, but it would seem difficult in front of GABP. At that time he said he wasn't sure yet, but it was something they were very much trying to figure out and have a strong desire to make that a strong connection for riverfront trails. The area in front of PBS and west of that is a stretch until they ever get control of that sand or whatever place over there. Until that is acquired and removed then there is no need to stretch the riverfront park system any further west than PBS. Hopefully that happens.
September 29, 200816 yr Yeah, I'd love to see that gravel/cement/sand business relocated at some point, but I'll be thrilled if they can just connect everything between the CRP to Sawyer Point.
September 29, 200816 yr “You ask, and Mike Brown delivers,” Director of Cincinnati Parks Willie Carden said of the Bengals president after handing the check to Pat Ward, president of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation and the final speaker during the ground breaking ceremony. Oh yeah? Everyone has been asking for a competitive football team for 17 years, when is that scheduled for delivery?
September 30, 200816 yr ^ As long as Mike Brown owns the Bengals we'll never have a consistant winner. Mike Brown = money, Paul Brown = football. He'll never be his dad. BUT, back to the park. What are those two big stripes for? a marker of some sort?
October 27, 200816 yr Interestingly enough there are some updated renderings for this park project. They just so happen to prominently feature steamboats all over the place now. Given the recent news about the Delta Queen being decommissioned I tend to think this is more than just some random coincidence. It would be absolutely wonderful if the Delta Queen was permanently featured on the Cincinnati riverfront and at this prominent location that will inevitably be inundated with lots of tourists. It would also seem to work out for an expansion of Tall Stacks. You can see this docking area directly in front of Paul Brown Stadium in the site plan below. Oh, and in case it hasn't been said before. This will be one hell of a front yard for the City.
October 27, 200816 yr BTW, there are some new renderings/images on the park's website. I don't really feel like posting all of them over here (at least at this point). So feel free to entertain yourself: http://www.crpark.org/take_a_tour.htm http://www.crpark.org/park_planning.htm
October 27, 200816 yr I ONLY hope somebody in this city has an eye on getting that boat here IF they decommission her!!!!! It will kill me if a town like Biloxi, Cairo or worse yet Dubai get her! This park is going to be AMAZING
October 27, 200816 yr I ONLY hope somebody in this city has an eye on getting that boat here IF they decommission her!!!!! It will kill me if a town like Biloxi, Cairo or worse yet Dubai get her! You and me both. If the park does have plans to acquire the Delta Queen, I wonder if she would be permanently moored, turned into a restaurant, or giving daytime river tours.
October 27, 200816 yr Perpendicular to the river are section marks. Parallel to the river is maybe the existing shoreline? Looks like the photo was taken with high water.
